About the Speakers Alan Bender is director of workers compensation and casualty insurance for Publix Super Markets. His responsibilities include building and administering workers compensation programs for Publix in six states in the southeast. Susan Briggs is a shareholder at Dickie, McCamey & Chilcote. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she also obtained her law degree. Among several honors, she is named in The Best Lawyers in America: Workers Compensation Law. Dr. T. Kern Carlton III received his undergraduate and medical degrees from Wake Forest University. He specializes in the evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with musculoskeletal injuries, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (RSD), chronic pain, traumatic brain injuries, and spinal cord injuries. Julia Dixon, a shareholder at Young Moore and Henderson, P.A., is a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Law. Kevin Glennon, RN, BSN, CDMS, CWCP, QRP is vice president for home health & complex care services at One Call Care Management in Florida. Kathy Goforth handles North Carolina and South Carolina workers compensation claims for Tyson Foods, Inc., where she has worked several jobs since 1978, including plant positions. Bruce Hamilton, a partner in Teague Campbell, graduated from Tulane University and the University of Virginia School of Law. Jeff Kaddis, a partner in Hedrick Gardner s Charlotte office, is co-chair of the firm s workers compensation practice group. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Wake Forest University School of Law. Robert Kaylor, lobbyist for the North Carolina Association of Self-Insurers, is a graduate of East Carolina University and the University of North Carolina School of Law. Debra Lord, PT is co-founder of Job Ready Services in Raleigh. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Sam McKelvey, physical therapist, founded Restoration Physiotherapy in 2006. He graduated with a BS in exercise science from Appalachian State University, earned a BSc in physical therapy from Hogeschool van Amsterdam in the Netherlands, and holds an MBA from Averett University in Virginia. Joe Nelson is an associate at Dickie, McCamey & Chilcote. He did his undergraduate work at St. Olaf College in Minnesota and received his law degree from Loyola University. Jay Norris, NCASI president, is manager of claims at Duke Energy Corporation. He supervises Duke Energy s workers compensation program in multiple jurisdictions in the U.S. and Canada, and is responsible for insurance renewals and placements, and for managing Duke s self-insurance and claims management programs. Chairman Andrew Heath is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Asheville and Indiana University, where he received his law degree.
