Launch Windows Server 2003 installation using one of the methods described in the Installing Windows Server 2003 on the Instructor Computer Using the Manual Method section of this document. After Windows Server 2003 Setup is launched, follow these steps to continue the installation. 1. If you are installing the evaluation version of Windows Server 2003, a setup notification screen appears, informing you that you are about to install an evaluation version of Windows Server 2003. If this screen appears, press ENTER to continue. 2. On the Welcome To Setup screen, press ENTER to continue the installation.
3. On the Windows Server 2003 Licensing Agreement screen, select I Agree by pressing F8. If another copy of Windows Server 2003 is detected, a Windows Server 2003 Setup screen informs you that you can repair the installation. If another copy of Windows Server 2003 is detected, press ESC to continue. 4. The Windows Server 2003 Setup screen appears, prompting you to select an area of free space or an existing partition on which to install Windows Server 2003, create a partition, or delete a partition. If any partitions exist, delete them by pressing the D key and following the on-screen instructions. Once the disk(s) contain only unpartitioned space, go to the next step. 5. Make sure that the unpartitioned space on Disk 0 is selected, and then press ENTER to continue installation. 6. When prompted to select the file format, select Format This Partition Using The NTFS File System, and then press ENTER to continue. If you re prompted to insert the CD, be sure to do so, and then press ENTER to continue. The system will perform various installation tasks and then restart when complete. IMPORTANT If your computer supports booting from the CD, after Windows Server 2003 Setup restarts, the computer might try to boot from the Windows Server 2003 CD. If this happens, you should be prompted to press a key to boot from the CD-ROM. However, if Setup restarts automatically, simply remove the CD, and then restart the computer. A Windows Setup message box appears, and the installation continues. Running the GUI Mode Phase of Windows Server 2003 Setup 1. On the Regional Settings screen, ensure that the system locale, user locale, and keyboard layout are correct for your language and location, and then click Next. The Personalize Your Software screen appears, prompting you for your name and organization name. 2. In the Name text box, type any names or characters you wish to enter (this information is of no consequence to the installation) and then click Next. 3. On the Your Product Key screen, enter the product key, and then click Next.
The Licensing Modes screen appears, prompting you to select a licensing mode. By default, the Per Server option is selected. 4. Select the Per Device or Per User option, and then click Next. 5. On the Computer Name And Administrator Password screen, in the Computer Name text box, type computerxx (where xx is a unique number that you assigned to each computer, such as Computer01, Computer02, Computer03, and so forth). NOTE Windows Server 2003 displays the computer name in all capital letters regardless of how it is entered. 6. In the Administrator Password and Confirm Password text boxes, type P@ssw0rd, then click Next. 7. In the Date And Time Settings dialog box, select the appropriate date, time, and time zone, and then click Next. 8. In the Network Settings dialog box, click the Custom Settings option, and then click Next. NOTE At this point, if your network card is not detected, you must install the card manually. You might have to come back to these steps when configuring your network card later. 9. Select the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) option, and click Properties. 10. In the General tab, click the Use The Following IP Address option, and configure the following settings. Option Setting: IP Address 10.1.1.x (where x is the unique number you assigned to the student computers) Subnet Mask 255.255.0.0 Default Gateway Enter the default gateway for your network. If you don t know the IP address, check with your network administration team. Otherwise, leave this field blank. Preferred DNS Server 10.1.1.200 Alternate DNS Server Insert the IP address of another DNS server on your network, if applicable. Otherwise, leave this field blank.
11. Click OK to close the Networking Components dialog box. 12. Click Next to continue with setup. The Workgroup Or Computer Domain screen appears, prompting you to join either a workgroup or a domain. 13. Verify that the No, This Computer Is Not On A Network, Or Is On A Network Without A Domain option is selected and that the workgroup name is Workgroup, and then click Next. 14. Windows Setup begins copying installation files. The installation should proceed uninterrupted. Eventually, the computer will restart. Installing Active Directory on the Student Computers Whether you install Active Directory manually or by using automation, there are some important considerations. First, the odd-numbered computers must be set up before their even-numbered counterparts because the even-numbered computers are replica domain controllers of the odd-numbered computers. DNS registration during Active Directory installation sometimes fails. Therefore, you should force DNS registration after each Active Directory install. This procedure is simple and is outlined in each of the installation methods., at a command prompt, enter the following command: ipconfig /registerdns. IMPORTANT Complete Active Directory installation on the odd-numbered computers before installing on the even-numbered computers. Installing Active Directory Using the Manual Method IMPORTANT Complete this task from the odd-numbered student computers. They will become the first domain controllers of each child domain. Installing Active Directory on the First Domain Controller in the Child Domain Using the Manual Method
1. Log on to the Windows 2003 server using the local administrator account credentials. 2. Click Start, select Run, type dcpromo in the Open box, and then press ENTER. 3. On the Welcome To The Active Directory Installation Wizard page, click Next to proceed with Active Directory installation. 4. On the Operating System Compatibility page, click Next. 5. On the Domain Controller Type page, select Domain Controller For A New Domain, and then click Next. 6. On the Create New Domain page, select Child Domain in an existing domain tree, and then click Next. 7. On the Networking Credential page, in the User Name box, enter administrator; in the Password box, enter P@ssw0rd; and in the Domain box, enter contoso.com. 8. On the Child Domain Installation page, in the Parent Domain box, enter contoso.com, and in the Child Domain box, enter domain, where domain is the child domain indicated in Table 1-1, Child Domains, shown previously in this document (for example, auckland). Click Next. 9. On the NetBIOS Domain Name Page, verify that your domain name is typed correctly, and click Next. 10. On the Database And Log Folders page, click Next to leave the log files and database in their default location. 11. On the Shared System Volume page, ensure that the Sysvol folder is on a volume formatted with the NTFS file system (this should already be done). Click Next. 12. On the DNS Registration Diagnostics page, view the details of the diagnostic test. Then ensure that the primary DNS server is listed as Instructor01.Contoso.Com. Click Next to continue the installation. 13. On the Permissions page, click Next to accept the default permissions setting. 14. On the Directory Services Restore Mode Administrator Password page, type P@ssw0rd as the restore mode password. Confirm the password by typing it again, and then click Next to proceed with the Active Directory installation.
15. Review the Summary dialog box, and then click Next to install Active Directory. 16. When the Completing The Active Directory Installation Wizard page appears, click Finish, then click Restart Now to restart the computer. 17. Log on using the appropriate domain administrator name and password. 18. On the This Server Is Now A Domain Controller page, click Finish. Active Directory is now installed on the server. 19. Click Start, select Run, enter cmd in the Open box, and press ENTER. 20. In the command prompt window, type ipconfig /registerdns, and press ENTER. Close the command prompt window. IMPORTANT Complete this task from the even-numbered student computers. They will become replica domain controllers in the new child domain. Installing Active Directory on a Replica Domain Controller Using the Manual Method 1. Log on to the Windows 2003 server using the local administrator account credentials. 2. Configuring the Active Directory Database for Student Logons In this procedure, you create an organizational unit (OU), student accounts, and a Students group. IMPORTANT These steps must be completed in each child domain. 1. Click Start, select Administrative Tools, and then select Active Directory Users And Computers to open the Active Directory Users And Computers console. 2. In the console tree, select the Domain.Contoso.Com node. 3. On the Action menu, select New, and then select Organizational Unit. The New Object Organizational Unit dialog box appears, which indicates the location where the object will be created. Verify that this location is Atlanta.Contoso.Com. 4. In the Name text box, type students, and then click OK. The Students OU is created and selected. 5. On the Action menu, select New, and then click User. 6. Create a new user account with the following information. 7. Click Next. 8. In the Password text boxes, type P@ssw0rd. Confirm the password by typing it into the Confirm Password text box. Clear the User Must Change Password At Next Logon option, and select the Password Never Expires option.
9. Click Next. The summary screen appears, displaying configuration settings for Studentxx. Text Box Information to Type First Name student Last Name xx (this is the number in the computer name) User Logon Name studentxx 10. Click Finish. 11. Complete steps 5 through 11 to create additional student accounts. Name the accounts to correspond to the names of the computers (for example, student01 and student02 for the first domain, student03 and student04 for the second domain, and so forth). 12. Close the Active Directory Users And Computers snap-in. Enabling Local Logons for the Student Accounts 1. Start your computer running Windows Server 2003, and log on as an administrator using the administrator account. 2. Click Start, select Administrative Tools, and then select Domain Controller Security Policy. 3. Under the Security Settings node, expand Local Policies. 4. Select User Rights Assignment, and in the details pane, double-click Allow Log On Locally. 5. In the Allow Log On Locally Properties window, click Add User Or Group. 6. In the Add User Or Group window, click Browse. 7. Click the Advanced button in the Select Users, Computers, Or Groups window. 8. In the Select Users, Computers, Or Groups window, click Find Now. 9. Hold down the CTRL key while selecting both Studentxx accounts from the Search Results pane, and then click OK. 10. Click OK to accept both accounts. 11. Click OK to finish adding both accounts to the Domain Controller Security Policy. Close the console.
Additional Setup Instructions: Labeling the Network Connection Icons IMPORTANT To complete the exercises for Lab 1 and Lab 2, you must install and configure a second network adapter. Once you have installed the second network adapter, complete this task on all student computers. 1. Start your computer running Windows Server 2003, and log on as an administrator using the local administrator account. 2. Click Start, select Control Panel, and select Taskbar And Start Menu. 3. In the Taskbar And Start Menu Properties page, click the Start Menu tab. 4. In the Start Menu tab, click Customize. 5. Click the Advanced tab. 6. Scroll down in the Start Menu Items window. 7. Under Network Connections, select the Link To Network Connections Folder option, and then click OK. 8. Click OK to accept your changes to the Start menu. 9. Click Start, and then click Network Connections. 10. Right-click the connection labeled Local Area Connection. 11. Choose Rename. 12. Type contoso ltd network, and press ENTER. 13. Right-click the connection labeled Local Area Connection 2. 14. Choose Rename. 15. Type litware inc network, and then press ENTER. 16. Close the Network Connections window.
