Welcome to This Professional Development Training pack outlines the areas of training for volunteers and volunteer program managers able to be provided by. The pack is designed to be user friendly while containing enough detail to help you make decisions regarding training for your volunteers. We also specialize in providing support to volunteer management infrastructure with the focus of improving the experience of the volunteer. I trust you find this pack helpful and informative Peter Heyworth Executive Officer About Established in 1982, (NVSA) is a regional Volunteer Resource Centre covering the northern region of Adelaide. We provide a number of services to the volunteer sector both within and outside this area, including: Volunteer referrals (only to member organisations within the target area) Volunteer training (member organisation discounts available) Volunteer program manager training (member organisation discounts available) Consultancy services Customized training services Our referral service covers an area extending from Port Adelaide to Enfield, Tea Tree Gully, and Gawler. 2

About the NVSA Personnel Peter Heyworth Peter is the Executive Officer at NVSA. He is well known within the volunteer sector and is seen as an innovator, capacity builder and mentor. He is passionate about volunteerism and its impact on society. He was the inaugural President of the Australasian Association of Volunteer Administrators (AAVA), Australia s first professional Association for volunteer program managers. Peter has extensive experience in the setting up and development of volunteer programs. He has been involved with the development, review and monitoring of volunteer program management qualifications at both State and National levels. He was State Volunteer Manager for a leading disability agency for 10 years, a program involving some 950+ volunteers. Peter holds qualifications in Geology; theology; volunteer management; community sector management; training and assessment; public policy, including a Master of Science in Public Policy and Management (Carnegie Mellon University in Adelaide); and Graduate Certificate in Management (Learning). Donatella Amos Donatella is the Training and Development Manager at NVSA. She has over 14 years experience managing volunteer programs. Her previous position was Director of Volunteer Services at a large hospital involving over 500 hospital and community based volunteers. Donatella has a good understanding of volunteerism locally, in Australia and overseas. She is held in high regard within the volunteer sector and has been on the board of AAVA, the national professional association for volunteer managers. Donatella was included in the inaugural SA Honour Roll, in the 2009 and 2010 Who s Who of Australian Women and received a Certificate of Recognition from AAVA for her work in the sector. She holds qualifications in Community Sector Management, training and assessment and volunteer program management, including a Graduate Certificate of Management (Learning). 3

Ken Barnes Ken is NVSA s Training Officer. Ken holds significant experience in SA Ambulance; working with long term unemployed as a job search trainer; assisting people facing violence and abuse including as a Lifeline counsellor; and, providing in-service training. He is passionate about helping people to live rewarding and enriched lives. He has been involved in managing volunteers in various capacities, including both paid and unpaid capacities. Ken holds a Bachelor of Ministry and is currently completing a Diploma in Counselling Teresa Gurr Teresa is the Office Manager and Volunteer Manager at NVSA as well as the Community Visitors Scheme Coordinator. She has been with NVSA for over 20 years. She also held the position of Board Secretary for 10 years. Teresa is involved in the training, RPL support and mentoring of candidates through the Active Volunteering Certificates I-III program. Teresa currently holds an Advanced Diploma in Community Sector Management. 4

Cost structure: NVSA has several cost structures. 1. General public access training Courses offered to the general public and volunteers in the community. Participants enrol simply by ringing NVSA and booking in. Costs vary depending upon the session. General Sessions: $15 GST inc pp NVSA members & $44 GST inc pp nonmembers. Some general access training sessions are sponsored by Office for Volunteers and Volunteering SA & NT and are free to volunteers. Some sessions may be a higher cost, for example: Apply First Aid Member = $110; Member Paid Workers = $150; Non Members = $169. Training is conducted by Registered Training Organisation Palmers Education (Provider number 40388). Provide Basic Emergency Life Support (First Aid) Members = $77; Non Members = $99. Training is conducted by Registered Training Organisation Palmers Education (Provider number 40388). Child Safe Environment (Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect) Members = $55; Non Members = $82.50. Training is conducted by Registered Training Organisation Palmers Education (Provider number 40388). Occupational Health & Safety Members = $30; Non Members $88. off the shelf training can be modified to an organisation s requirements and delivered on-site for $395+GST for a 3 hour training session. 7

2. Customized, onsite training NVSA develops customised training to suit the needs of the organisation. This may include staff training and / or volunteer training over a wide range of activities. The cost is $495 + GST per 3 hour session. NVSA staff can develop specific training packages for volunteers complete with facilitator notes, presentations and resource listing, and train or co-facilitate with organisational staff. 3. Consultancy services (POA) NVSA staff are able to provide specialist assistance in developing or reviewing volunteer programs. This may include: mentoring for National Standards compliance; volunteer program auditing; development / review of policies; developing training or orientation manuals or volunteer training; NVSA specialises in the development of volunteer programs within organisations who do not currently have a volunteer program. The volunteer program is fully integrated into the organisation. This includes: policy review and development; research; volunteer role development and risk assessment volunteer model development, including all forms, pro forma letters, interview questions etc development of all training manuals and training / induction sessions implementation of the volunteer program including recruiting and training the first group of volunteers staff survey and training evaluation Programs are developed individually to suit each organisation 8
