2 Page 2 of 5 METRO Essex HIV Support Counselling Co-ordinator JOB DESCRIPTION CONTRACT: SALARY: HOURS: LINE MANAGED BY: PLACE OF WORK: Until 31 March, 2018 with possibility of extension 26,533-28,171 per annum, pro-rata 7 hours per week Charlie Parker, METRO Peer Support Services Manager METRO Essex Office and locations throughout Essex Job Summary METRO is seeking a committed, motivated and suitably qualified individual to carry out counselling assessments and act as a counselling co- ordinator for people living with HIV (PLHIV) as part of its suite of support services in Essex. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to support the development a new service in Essex and to further develop METRO s successful work with PLHIV. The post holder will take referrals from the METRO Essex HIV Care and Support Coordinator, carry out clinical assessments and refer clients to counsellors working within the service. He or she will also provide or make arrangements to supply clinical supervision for the service counsellors. Working within the METRO Mental Health team, the post holder will be in close liaison with METRO s HIV services.
3 Page 3 of 5 Main Tasks 1. To set up and run an assessment / counselling co- ordination service as part of the METRO Essex HIV Support Service 2. To work with the HIV Support Service Lead on developing a referral process and protocol and ensure an integrated approach 3. To carry out clinical assessments of people referred for counselling by the HIV Support Service Lead 4. To recruit volunteer counsellors across Essex for the service 5. To refer clients as appropriate to volunteer counsellors working within the service 6. To liaise with METRO Mental Health Services manager to recruit and induct volunteer counsellors for the service 7. To provide clinical supervision for service counsellors 8. To ensure quality standards in operational guidelines for the service including health and safety, safeguarding, confidentiality, data protection and information governance and to keep accurate records. 9. To complete required reporting to deadlines and provide any additional information as requested 10. To be self- administering, ensuring all work related fields and information are stored appropriately (including confidential information) and accessible to team / managers 11. To attend key Team Meetings and Supervision and to undertake appropriate training as agreed and when necessary 12. To adhere to METRO policies and procedures at all times 13. Any other duties as may be reasonably required and negotiated with the Line Manager and a flexible approach to shifting contract targets
4 Page 4 of 5 PERSON SPECIFICATION Qualifications and experience Knowledge, skills and abilities or desirable, or both Have a strong understanding of the issues affecting PLHIV. Work with PLHIV from an affirmative viewpoint A recognised counselling and / or psychotherapy qualification (BACP UKCP) A minimum of 150 supervised hours of one- to- one adult counselling An experience of carrying out clinical assessments A recognised certificate / diploma in Clinical Supervision Desired An ability to communicate clearly and offer support in a sensitive and non judgmental manner which respects diversity An ability to work as a part of a team and on own initiative
