Job Title: Department: Reports To: FLSA Status: Starting Salary: Vice President of Marketing and Communications Marketing Chief Executive Officer Exempt 60K to 70K JOB SUMMARY A communications/marketing generalist with a focus on public relations and internal membership communications. The Vice President of Marketing and Communications works with key media outlets and consumer audiences as the lead marketing and communications professional for GSSNV. He/she partners with cross-functional teams on initiatives, such as cookies, camp, and membership, to meet established council goals and to promote the Girl Scout mission. The position serves as an advocate to build and maintain positive community and membership relations, with the goal of maintaining visibility, securing publicity and communicating effectively to GS membership for the council s events, programs and activities. The Vice President of Marketing and Communications develops project plans, and initiates and implements PR and internal communications campaigns working collaboratively and pro-actively with internal and external partners, including all departments, our active volunteer base, girls, and community partners. We are seeking a motivated team player who demonstrates creativity, initiative, strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to details, graphic art skills and has a record of success working with traditional and new media. The Vice President of Marketing and Communications works as part of a team reporting to the Chief Executive Officer. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may need to be assigned according to the particular needs of the council and areas of supervision. Key Responsibilities: 1. Develops and executes comprehensive, internal communication and public relations strategies, which drive results of membership growth, membership satisfaction, and visibility in Southern Nevada. 2. Cultivates and manages collaborative internal relationships and builds trust by anticipating needs, communicating clearly and maintaining a consistent presence. Acts as a PR liaison to council departments and Girl Scouts in the community. Page 1 of 5

3. Writes newsworthy and effective press releases, media advisories, pitches and key messages. Drafts content for event programs, blogs and other council publications. 4. Establishes and maintains strong relationships with the media, working effectively with program partners, funders, volunteers and colleagues to keep Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada in the news. The position provides all media outlets in our service footprint with notice of upcoming events, programs, awards, and stories promoting Girl Scout accomplishments. Maintains current media lists. 5. Increases the council s visibility through the use of social media and new media. Applies proven public relations tactics in the digital world by connecting with influential sources such as bloggers and online editors. Works collaboratively with other team members to develop and implement an effective and strategic social media plan to increase follower engagement. 6. Develops and maintains council website content, and ensures updated information is provided to third-party websites (including event calendars, camp guides, and other family-focused websites). 7. Supports and promotes special events to advance organizational goals, engage consumers, and gain public attention through earned media. Initiates cost-effective PR strategies, secures media sponsors, in-kind and trade arrangements. 8. Identifies and secures interview opportunities for CEO, Board Chair, senior staff, volunteers and girls, including preparation of media briefings and talking points. Accompanies spokespeople to media interviews and speaking engagements. Provides media training as needed. 9. Attends council events, taking photographs and posting to social media. 10. Engages staff and volunteers in building visibility for the organization. Recruits, motivates and supports local volunteers to serve as media managers to secure publicity for Girl Scouts in their communities. Identifies and works with local Girl Scouts to prepare them to represent the organization to the public and the media. 11. Edits and proofreads marketing department materials, including newsletters, brochures, flyers, e-mail blasts, remarks and postcards. 12. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Bachelor s degree in communications, journalism or related field. 3-5 years of relevant non-profit, PR agency or corporate communications experience, with a track record of successful PR/publicity campaigns incorporating print, broadcast and online media. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Windows and Office software, Constant Contact email marketing, and PowerPoint; experience updating web sites. Familiarity with Donor Perfect, PhotoShop and/or InDesign a plus, but not required. Ability to plan and manage projects from beginning to end, and to multi-task. Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Attention to detail in composing, editing and proofreading materials. Strategic, conceptual and creative thinker. Self-starter. Excellent interpersonal skills and the proven ability to be a team player collaborating with crossfunctional teams. Digital photography skills. Commitment to excellence and to the mission of the Girl Scouts. Valid driver s license, access to motor vehicle, and willingness to travel to council offices, summer camps and media outlets as needed. Flexibility to work events that take place outside of regular work hours, including occasional weekends. Must be able to lift 20 pounds. A. Education and/or Experience Bachelor s degree in a relevant course of study, or equivalent experience; graduate degree a plus, but not required Minimum of 5 year of directly relevant work experience, preferably in a nonprofit organization Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, sufficient technical ability to easily work in multiple digital environments such as Constant Contact and MyEmma. Ability to project a high level of professionalism while networking in the public arena. Ability to speak passionately and with conviction about the organizational mission and its importance. Demonstrate a commitment and ability to interact with diverse populations. Demonstrate ability to handle sensitive information; ability to manage conflict resolution B.
