DUCA DI SALAPARUTA S.P.A. The Duca di Salaparuta Group comprises three historic brands that represent Sicily and Italy worldwide: Corvo and Duca di Salaparuta, established in 1824, and Florio, established in 1833. Acquired by Illva Saronno Holding and merged into a single group, the two old-established companies now constitute Sicily s leading privately-owned wine-producing group, and their estates, historic cellars, and above all, their wines, provide a key chapter to the island s history. Each of the three brands is a reflection of a specific territory and its particular features, and offers a complete range of wines to suit every kind of occasion and taste, which this year celebrate two important anniversaries. The first 5.000 bottles of Corvo were bottled in 1824 by Giuseppe Alliata, who thanks to his innovative spirit, laid the basis for a profound change in the island s oenology, a veritable revolution that would lead to the birth of modern Sicilian wines, rich in scents and with an unmistakable personality. Today, after 190 years, these are still the qualities that make Corvo wines great timeless classics, present on Italian and international tables. But that is not all, this year one of Duca di Salaparuta s iconic wines, Duca Enrico, celebrates its thirtieth anniversary. Produced for the first time in 1984, Duca Enrico was the first single varietal wine made from Nero d Avola grapes in the history of Sicilian wines, and over the years has become one of the excellences of Made in Italy wine making worldwide. A wine with a revolutionary spirit, ancient and modern at the same time, the fruit of a long wine-making tradition and the desire to create a product of exceptional quality. Duca Enrico has become one of the best-loved Sicilian wines, and on this important birthday is celebrated with a Limited Edition created in collaboration with the students of the Design Degree Course of the Turin Polytechnic Department of Architecture and Design. Always alert to trends and changes that affect the traditional market, the Duca di Salaparuta Group is also determined to meet its interlocutors new demands, first and foremost being the need for more effective, personalized communication with customers, and greater attention to the services being offered. History The Duca di Salaparuta Group unites two great families whose natural talent for innovation helped change Sicily and the story of Italian wine. In 1824, the Dukes of Salaparuta were the first to bottle their wine, to study enology in France, and to bring the idea of elegant wines and the know-how to make modern wines to Sicily. Also during the years the company was managed by the Sicily Region, motivation to innovate never diminished, as proven by Duca Enrico. Created in 1984, it was the first single varietal wine to be produced from Nero d Avola grapes, nowadays unanimously considered to be Sicily s noblest variety. The Florio Winery, on the other hand, was founded in 1833 by the Florio family, whose multiple interests brought a modern vision of entrepreneurship to the Island, and contributed to laying the foundation for Sicily s economy. Two families with long traditions, two fascinating Wineries and long-lasting innovative projects form the solid basis which have allowed these brands to traverse the centuries and continue to be market leaders. Projects In recent years, the current owners of the Duca di Salaparuta Group S.p.a., defined an investment plan to give greater visibility to the Wineries and the Estates, but also to further upgrade production controls. Large-scale interventions in the vineyards and cellars have made Duca di Salaparuta a point of reference for ampelographic analysis in all of Sicily, increased the value of the Group with the acquisition of new acreage and strengthened the image of its three brands.
