Cap. 1 - Purpose of this manual. 1 - Purpose of this manual. 1.1- Definitions and abbreviations Area or Par ti tion This is the technical term relating to the control unit, which indicates a grouping of Zones. Operating Control Station or Cen tre Control unit or panel This is where all information sent by the BiTech burglar alarm control unit is sent. It includes special equipments, managed by trained personnel. This refers to the BiTech control unit. Default This is the default value of the parameters on the control unit before programming. Event Any variation of one of the internal or external logic states. It causes a local action and/or generates an alarm or a restore, which can be transmitted by the communicator. Firm ware This is the control unit management software, located in the non volatile memory of the logic card. Flash This is the non volatile memory of the logic card. MVC or SicepMVC Multi Vectorial Configurator, PC software Client developed by Sicep for the installation, configuration and updating of Sicep new generation products. MVS Identifies a Sicep-owned protocol for transmitting information. MVS Data 9000 System designed by Sicep for the handling of alarms by the Operating Control Station MVS-Net System designed by Sicep for the handling of alarms by the Operating Control Station NC Nor mally closed. If this is an in put, it means that when at rest, the ter mi nal must be con nected to earth. In the case of an out put (e.g. a re lay), when at rest, the con tact must be con nected to the com mon ter mi nal (COM). NO Nor mally open. If this is an in put, it means that when at rest, the ter mi nal must be left open. In the case of an out put (e.g. a re lay), when at rest, the con tact is not con nected to the com mon ter mi nal (COM). BTMVS Protocol Sub set of the BiTech pro to col which is trans ported by the MVS ra dio pro to col. It may only be man aged by MVSNet Sicep op er a tional con trol units. The cor re spond ing backup is com posed of the nor mal Con tact-id trans mit ted on the tele phone line. Range In di cates the range of ad mis si ble val ues for the pa ram e ter. RS485 Standard for data transmission in serial mode on two wires. In the BiTech system, it identifies a series of devices (e.g. keyboards) wired to the control unit. Zone This is the technical term referred to the control unit, indicating an input terminal for the connection of a sensor or a Wireless sensor. Pag. 1

How ever, SICEP Spa shall have the right to mod ify and im prove the prod uct de scribed at any time with out fur ther no tice. 2.2- Limits of use In the trans mis sion phase, the de vice gen er ates and ra di ates elec tro mag netic en ergy. It has been de signed to com ply with the fol low ing stan dards as re gards hu man ex po sure to radiofrequency electromagnetic energy. ENV 50166-1 - Hu man ex po sure to elec tro mag netic fields. Low fre quency (from 0Hz to 10KHz) ENV 50166-2 - Hu man ex po sure to elec tro mag netic fields. High fre quency (from 10KHz to 300GHz) In or der to achieve ex cel lent lev els of per for mance and en sure that hu man ex po sure to elec tro mag netic en ergy com plies with the stan dards men tioned, al ways fol low the rules be low: - En sure that peo ple are kept at least 1m away from the an tenna dur ing trans mis sion. - The an tenna must be cor rectly in stalled and cal i brated on the fre quency of use. - Do not touch the an tenna dur ing trans mis sion, as it could cause small burns to the skin. - Un der no cir cum stances use the de vice with out the an tenna or if the an tenna is dam aged. - To pre vent elec tro mag netic in ter fer ence prob lems with other elec tronic de vices, take particular care when installing the device in certain environments, such as hospitals, clinics and all ar eas where sen si tive elec tronic de vices are used. In these sit u a tions, the re quired re stric tions must be re spected. - Do not in stall the de vice in po ten tially ex plo sive ar eas (such as fuel or chem i cal de pos its, environments containing chemicals, powders or particles which could cause explosions) or in any other en vi ron ment in which it is ad vis able to switch off ve hi cle en gines. - Do not in stall the de vice in ar eas in which det o na tion de vices are used (e.g. quar ries and mines). - Do not in stall the de vice on board aeroplanes. The con trol unit may in cor po rate an 868 MHz ra dio in ter face, in com pli ance with the CEPT/ERC/REC 70-03 rec om men da tion (Short Range De vices) on the con di tion that it is in no way al tered, in clud ing the an tenna. 2.3- Compliance with EC Directive Sicep S.p.A. hereby de clares that this is in com pli ance with the es sen tial re quire ments and other rel e vant pro vi sions of di rec tive 1999/5/EC (R&TTE). EN 60065 EN 50130-4, EN 55024 EN 301 489-01, EN 301 489-03, EN 301 489-05 EN 300 113-1, EN 300 113-2 (art. 3.1a 1999/05/CE) (art. 3.1.b 1999/5/CE) (art. 3.2 1999/5/CE) As de vices use non-harmonized fre quency bands, use is de pend ent on a Gen eral Au tho ri za tion is sued by the com pe tent au thor ity, which in di cates the fre quency to use. Cap. 2 - Standards reference The au tho ri za tion re quest must con tain the se rial num ber and the model of the prod uct to be used as shown be low: - /V (model VHF 156-174 MHz, 10W max.) - /U (model UHF 430-470 MHz, 10W max.) 2.4- Requirements of the burglar alarm control unit The Sicep con trol unit and the BT-CMW / BT-IRW / BT-IRE sen sors have been man u fac tured in com pli ance with 79-2 2 IEC stan dard, is sue 1998. 2.5- Accessories The BiTech con trol unit is sup plied as a ba sic ver sion. Ad di tional op tional ac ces so ries are also avail able. Sicep S.p.A. hereby de clares that all cards, de vices and op tional ac ces so ries for the con trol unit are in com pli ance with the es sen tial re quire ments and other rel e vant pro vi sions of Di rec tive 1999/5/EC (where ap pli ca ble) or Di rec tives 98/336/EC and 73/23/EC, on the con di tions that: such devices are only installed inside the Sicep con trol unit fol low ing the instal la tion instruc tions pro vided in this man ual; the instal la tion is car ried out by qual i fied per son nel. Any use of the op tional ac ces so ries not in ac cor dance with the above, shall re lease Sicep S.p.A. from all responsibilities whatsoever. 2.6- Markings A la bel with all rel e vant unit in for ma tion can be found on the top side of the unit it self. It in cludes the Man u fac turer num ber, the item part num ber, power sup ply in for ma tion (volt age and usage), serial number and production date. 2.7- Connection to the power supply - ground system Con nec tion with the power sup ply and to the ground sys tem must be in ac cor dance with chap ter 7.3, page 53. In ap pro pri ate con nec tion to the power sup ply shall re lease Sicep S.p.A. from all responsibilities. 2.8- Sectioning As the con trol unit is not fit ted with a switch, dur ing its in stal la tion, a bi po lar switch ing de vice with 3 mm min i mum con tacts open ing should also be in stalled. 2.9- Buffer battery The installation of a rechargeable lead accumulator is also recommended, to ensure that op er a tion will con tinue also in case of lim ited AC loss. Do not use ac cu mu la tors with ca pac ity higher than indicated on the technical Specifications on page 11. NOTICE Note: In ac cor dance with ref er ence norm CEI 79-2, the in stal la tion of this bat tery is com pul sory. In the most crit i cal case, the bat tery must guar an tee op er a tion of the con trol unit for 24 hours. Pag. 3

Cap. 2 - Standards reference 2.10- Packaging disposal The card board pack ag ing be longs to class 15 01 01 (9/4/2001 di rec tive). It should be dis posed of in accordance with local separate waste disposal criteria. 2.11- Product disposal As a whole unit, the BiTech con trol unit is not classed as SUW (Solid Ur ban Waste), as it in cludes elec tronic cards that can be classed as 16 02 09 and 20 01 36 prod ucts. There fore, do not dis pose of the unit as Ur ban Waste, but in ac cor dance with local separate waste disposal criteria. 2.12- Battery disposal Lead bat ter ies are not classed as SUW, but as 16 06 01 waste. They should be dis posed of in accordance with local separate waste disposal criteria. WARN ING! In ap pro pri ate dis posal of Elec tric and Elec tronic Equip ment can have dam ag ing ef fects on the en vi ron ment and the pop u la tion. 2.13- Receipt of the unit Upon re ceipt, check the pack ag ing for any trans port dam age. The unit is checked and packed with care by Sicep. If the pack ag ing shows any dam ages, no tify the cou rier im me di ately. Sicep shall not be held re spon si ble for any dam ages oc curred in tran sit (see the terms of the war ranty). The par cel is made of a card board box that con tains the fol low ing items: - 1 BiTech con trol unit - 1 user man ual 2.14- Storing The unit should be stored in its own pack ag ing at the en vi ron men tal con di tions pre scribed in the Technical Specifications. Max i mum shelf life is: 2 years 2.15- Support For any kind of sup port con tact your lo cal Sicep rep re sen ta tive. It will be fol lowed by a sec tion, which pro vides a de tailed anal y sis of the op er a tion of the unit. 3.1- The control panel Build ing on the many years of ex pe ri ence in the de sign and man u fac tur ing of ra dio sys tems, Sicep has now de signed an in no va tive antitheft con trol unit, fit ted with an en tirely bidirectional communication system, called BiTech. The use of state of the art tech nol o gies has re sulted in the pro duc tion of anti in tru sion prod ucts, which en able a con stant anal y sis of the sig nals from the in stalled ra dio de vices, and there fore a constant monitoring by the operating control station. This control unit incorporates a radio communicator which can be used for communication for pri vate use in the VHF or UHF range, for trans mit ting in for ma tion to sur veil lance con trol units. The main dis tin guish ing fea tures of the BiTech sys tem are: Mod u lar ity It in cludes 8 wired in puts and one 868MHz two-way disturbance resistant radio, with GFSK modulation, capable of handling Bi-directional communication with up to 32 wireless devices (keypads, ra dio con trolled sen sors, pas sive in fra red sen sors, mag netic con tacts etc.) and 4 REP signal repeaters. The Con trol unit can han dle up to 4 in de pend ent par ti tions, as well as zones shared by sev eral par ti tions. The 8 avail able out puts can be pro grammed in di vid u ally as: static, monostable and inverted. High level of se cu rity Should no con fir ma tion be re ceived by the Con trol Unit, all ra dio de vices can make sev eral attempts to communicate and ensure good transmission results. The tech nol ogy used en ables the con trol unit to de tect the pro longed ab sence of a ra dio de vice, with a pro gram ma ble time of 30 to 120 min utes, as well as fre quency jam ming at tempts, by con tin u ously mon i tor ing and gen er at ing an alarm, should pro longed dis tur bance oc cur (pro gram ma ble time 1 to 10 min utes). Safe com mu ni ca tion Com mu ni ca tions be tween the wire less de vice and the con trol unit are pos si ble thanks to a synchronised protocol with high speed dynamic encrypting. This synchronized technology ex change en ables dy namic two-way trans mis sions, ab sence of col li sions and an op ti mum dis tri bu tion of ra dio traf fic, as well as the pos si bil ity of ex tend ing the cov er age of the ra dio de vices with up to 4 re peat ers. Re duce con sump tion and speed of re ply Thanks to the Bi-di rec tional tech nol ogy, the sen sors re main in an sleep state when the sys tem is dis abled, and only trans mit the in for ma tion when re quired by the con trol unit. This re duces costs and at the same time in creases the du ra tion of the bat ter ies. The BiTech Con trol unit can ac ti vate all sen sors in just a few sec onds (ap prox i mately 4), en sur ing a prompt ness of sys tem re sponse, which can be com pared to stan dard wired sys tems. This bus provides parallel connections for all key readers and wired keypads. Cap. 3 - Introduction to the operation 3.4- Wired Inputs The Control unit can manage 8 NC (Normally Close) / NA (Normally Open) / Double balanced wired inputs and 8 Open Collector outputs. The wired inputs can be used in balance mode and also in NC (Normally Close) / NA (Normally Open) modes. Double balanced mode enables distinguishing between Alarm and Sabotage (cable cut or short circuit). 3.5- Radio Communicator The con trol unit in cor po rates a VHF (156-174 MHz) or UHF (440-470 MHz) 10 watt trans ceiver, ac cord ing to the model. This trans ceiver is con fig ured as a fixed/mo bile equipment for pri vate use, there fore its use is de pend ent upon a Gen eral Authorisation is sued by the com pe tent authority. The trans ceiver can op er ate with the following protocols: - High speed MVS Sicep - 6-chan nel low speed Sicep, new/old for mat - Compatible 1 - Compatible 1 CRYPTO - Compatible 2, 8 channels - Compatible 2, 12 channels - Com pat i ble SIN 1, SIN 2, SIN 3 - Formats for crossing compatible REPs (5 protocols) In the pro gram ming phase, a trans mis sion chan nel must be as so ci ated to the events to trans mit. An ex cep tion is made for the high speed MVS Sicep pro to col when it is used with MVSNet con trol units. In this case, in for ma tion is trans mit ted in a sim i lar way to the tele phone Con tact-id and the con trol unit can trans mit all the events com pletely. A sec ond ary re serve fre quency is also avail able. When op er at ing on this fre quency, the con trol unit can use a pe riph eral code which differs from the main one. 3.6- Telephone Backup It is pos si ble to in stall an op tional tele phone card (IF-TL) in the con trol unit which al lows a back up tele phone trans mis sion to be sent when ever the ra dio trans mis sion is not successful. Two tele phone num bers are avail able. The con trol unit can also use sep a rate pe riph eral codes which differ according to the recipient. This card is also able to de tect if the line is cut and gen er ate a spe cific event at the end of a programmed time. 3.7- Wireless devices operation Each BiTech con trol unit has its own se rial num ber. This is univocally al lo cated dur ing man u fac tur ing, and can not be mod i fied. This num ber iden ti fies the sys tem and en sures that each sen sor will only work with the equip ment to which it has been as signed. The sen sors will be programmed automatically with a recording on the control unit itself, during the installation. If de layed sen sors are used, the Ad mis sion and Learning times must be es tab lished for each of them. These times will be the same for all sen sors of the same par ti tion. All par ti tions have an au to matic re arm ing func tion. This func tion can be ac ti vated by sim ply en ter ing a time dif fer ent from 0 in the "AutoArm T." box. Par ti tion 4 can be used for the Pa trol func tion The BiTech sys tem en ables the use and man age ment of zones shared by sev eral par ti tions. Let's see how they work by show ing some sim ple ex am ples. A S1 Partition 1 Zone 1 S3 Zone 3 C B Partition 2 P Two of fices A and B have a com mon C cor ri dor. In other words, ad mis sion and leav ing times of de layed zones are the same that have been set for the par ti tion they be long to. A zone needs to be de layed if it needs alarm ing dur ing the par ti tion arm ing and dis arm ing operations. Example: if the key pad is placed on the en try cor ri dor and the door is fit ted with a mag netic con tact, once the sys tem has been armed the door will need open ing for the user to leave (leav ing time) and once the user re turns the door will have to be opened again (admission time). The two times op er ate as fol low: Leaving time: the delayed sen sors are ignored (they are not active). Admission time: delayed sen sors alarms are mem o rized and will only gen er ate an alarm when the time has expired. Due to its spe cial op er at ing pro ce dure, the Wire less mag netic sen sor will be dis cussed in de tails later on. Pag. 18

Cap. 5 - Operation: detailed description 5.7- Wired Inputs The BiTech Con trol Unit in cludes 8 wired in puts. These zones can be used for the con nec tion of sen sors us ing NC, NA or bal anced modes. NC Mode When this mode is set, the in put will be idle when short-cir cuited at the GND and in alarm con di tion when open. This ca ble con nec tion set-up is much sim pler, but it does not dis tin guish be tween a zone in alarm con di tion and a zone in sab o tage con di tion. NA Mode When this mode is set, the input will be idle when open and in alarm condition when short-circuited at the GND. Also this cabling set-up does not distinguish between a zone in alarm condition and a zone in sabotage condition. Bal anced mode (dual bal anc ing) In this mode, the in put is con nected so that it is ter mi nated, idle, at the GND by means of a 47KΩ re sis tance. The dif fer ent con di tions, based on the in put volt age, are listed in the ta ble be low. Input state: Voltage Cable-cut Sabotage: >2,7V Alarm: 1,8 2,7V Rest: 1,24 1,8V Alarm: 0,5 1,24V Cable shorted sabotage: < 0,5V For the ca bling pro ce dure re fer to the in stal la tion sec tion. Mode Not Used In this mode, the in put (zone) is al ways at rest and is not re ported as "zones Dis abled" on the keypad display. Alarm Mode 24H In this use the in put (zone) is al ways ac tive. The event gen er ated (Zone Alarm 24H) moves in the ac tive state when at least one zone is in alarm 24H. If this event is as so ci ated the ac ti va tion of an out put, this out put can be pro grammed as static or im pul sive; if it is static fol lows the plug (log i cal OR be tween in puts 24H), while if it is im pul sive it turns off af ter the programmed time. 5.8- Sensors block This fea ture al lows you to avoid false alarms caused by radio fre quen cy of the trans mit ter on the inputs. Checking the appropriate parameters for each input, every time the radio communicator is trans mit ting: - all variations of the input are ignored for the set time (Sensors Block Time, default 10 seconds); - BS out put (Block Sen sors) re mains ac tive for the du ra tion of that time. Cap. 5 - Operation: detailed description 5.9- Zone exclusion - forced arming On some oc ca sions, upon arm ing of the sys tem it will also be nec es sary to ex clude an alarmed zone. Examples: - a faulty sensor remains in a permanently alarmed state (and the system needs arming, waiting for the replacement of the sensor); - dur ing the sum mer months, one may want to arm the sys tem, while keep ing a con tact protected window open. A forced arm ing is the arm ing of the sys tem when one or more zones are alarmed. The sys tem will no tify that one or more zones are alarmed, and the arm ing pro ce dure must be repeated. SPE CIAL CASES OF ARM ING WITH AN ALARMED ZONE SHARED BY MORE PAR TI TIONS: Delayed zone Non MAS TER arm ing of an PAR TI TION other than the last one: Dur ing the arm ing of the par ti tions it belongs to, the alarm con di tion is not noti fied and the zone is not acti vated. Cap. 5 - Operation: detailed description 5.10- Automatic re-including zones For the exclusion of a zone, since ver sion 1.0.4 you can choose the op er a tion of the area in 3 different ways: NO (not auto-dis abling zone) The zone is not excludible through forced arm ing. Single The zone excluded by a forced arm ing, remains excluded until the next arm ing. Auto The zone excluded by a forced arm ing, turns back active automatically when at rest state. All are valid only for wired in puts and for mag netic sen sors (Door and Aux sec tion). 5.11- Zone disabling The man ual ex clu sion of a zone (dis abling), is an op er a tion car ried out us ing the key pad or from the pro gram. It makes the zone permanently non ac tive. A dis abled zone can be re ac ti vated us ing the same pro ce dure. Each time a zone is ex cluded, the rel e vant event is gen er ated. For more de tails on zone dis abling re fer to the sec tion Key pad Op er a tions. 5.12- Outputs The BiTech con trol unit has 8 (expandible to 24) ground re ferred (GND) open col lec tor out puts, ca pa ble of driv ing up to 100mA. The out puts can be ei ther Static or monostable, de pend ing on their use. All out puts can be ac ti vated based on in ter nal states of the con trol unit, to no tify sys tem Events (re fer to the sec tion Events in the Pro gram ming chap ter), or can be used as re mote con trols ac ti vated by the Op er at ing Cen tre. This op er a tions can be car ried out also us ing a tele phone. Out puts not used to no tify sys tem events can be used for re mote con trol op er a tion and be en abled from the Op er at ing Con trol Station or by tele phone re mote con trol. In the lat ter case, only out puts 1 to 8 can be used. 5.13- Wireless sensors The BiTech control unit supports a special range of Wireless sensors and devices. This is a proprietary synchronized radio system with time division, that enables obtaining a continuous Bi-directional connection between the Control Unit and the devices. Brief op er a tion de scrip tion The BiTech sys tem is based on a Sicep pro pri etary pro to col. Com mu ni ca tions are in syn chro nized mode. This means that each de vice has its own time win dow, within a 2 sec onds cy cle, for com mu ni ca tion with the con trol unit. This brings spe cial ad van tages: im por tant sav ings on the bat tery, be cause each sen sor only ac ti vates the re ceiver (and trans mit ter) for a very short frac tion of the cy cle. real supervision of the sensors and sensor s intelligent operation. total freedom from collision, resulting in optimum utilisation of the radio channel. The BiTech sys tem sup ports up to 28 de vices (in clud ing sev eral types of sen sors, re mote con trols and keypads) and a max i mum of 4 re peat ers, which can be used to reach the sen sors and devices positioned in less favourable locations. Each Wire less sen sor (with the ex cep tion of the REP), is pow ered by a 3.6 V AA Lith ium bat tery. Pag. 21
