Cap. 3 - Description ML Description The Multilink ML-8 in ter face/pe riph eral is a bidirectional de vice with 8 in puts and 8 out puts which uses the TCP/IP pro to col on the Ethernet net work as its main me dium of com mu ni ca tion. It can send the vari a tions of 8 logic in puts to the ter mi nal, configurable as needed, and has 8 out puts that can be used as re mote con trols or to re port a fault con di tion lo cally. Ad di tional chan nels are avail able to re port fault con di - tions or sab o tage (no net work, low bat tery, tam per ing etc.). The unit can be equipped with a GSM in ter face to al low it to be used even in the ab sence of the Ethernet net work or as an emer gency car rier. It is pos si - ble to use ei ther the GPRS mode (with a very low cost) or SMS mes sages. All traf fic is sent to Sur veil lance In sti tutes that use the MVSNet management system. The unit can also be used as a telephone interface to convert reports from a generic alarm control unit and transmit them with the TCP/IP (NetP) protocol to MVSNet control units. It is therefore possible to allow the transmission of alarms even in cases in which the PSTN telephone connection is not available. In this use, the interface can decode four Ademco-compatible protocols: Contact-ID, 4+2 Express, Fast (DTMF Ademco Fast) and In the operating control unit (MVSNet), the peripheral and interface functions are managed separately, because: - as a pe riph eral, it has its own code; - as an in ter face, the alarm is retransmitted with the code as signed to the con trol unit, in other words the in ter face is "trans par ent". The ML-8 in ter face/pe riph eral can be pro grammed us ing the Sicep MVC soft ware for PCs with a se rial or USB con nec tion. This pro gram ming is sim - ple and in tu itive thanks to the graphic pro gram ming pages in Win dow style. The pa ram e ters pro grammed in this way can be saved on file and re loaded onto the PC, in or der to build up per son al ised pro gram ming. It is also pos si ble to ac cess re mote pro gram ming, with a time-based or packet (GPRS) GSM connection. Pag. 5

Cap. 6 - Operation ML Operation The fol low ing de scrip tion as sumes that the Multilink ML-8 pe riph eral/in ter - face has al ready been con fig ured and that the LAN con nec tion is present LAN MVSNet connection When the de vice is switched on, the pe riph eral trans mits a packet con tain - ing its IP ad dress (KeepAlive) to the op er a tional con trol cen tre. At this point, the con trol cen tre trans mits a poll ing mes sage ev ery 15 sec onds and the pe - riph eral there fore es tab lishes that there is a con nec tion with the con trol unit. When, on the other hand, the poll ing mes sages do not ar rive, the pe riph eral sends a KeepAlive ev ery min ute, only stop ping when the con nec tion has been restored. These times are fixed Transmission of a spontaneous alarm (input change or fault) If the pri mary car rier (LAN) is avail able, the pe riph eral trans mits the re port. If the car rier is not avail able and the GSM in ter face is, it at tempts to send via the GPRS con nec tion. If this car rier is also not con fig ured or the pe riph eral does not re ceive a re ply, it sends the mes sage by SMS. This pri or ity in the choice of carriers is fixed Inputs 8 ter mi nal in puts are avail able with in put im ped ance of 100 KΩ. The de fault set ting for the in put is NC. In the rest ing state, it is earthed while when open, it is in an alarm con di tion. Con versely, if the set ting is NO, the rest ing state is open and while the closed to earth state is in an alarm con di tion. Each in put has a spe cial 100 kω pull-up re sis tor on +3.3 V, but is de signed to with stand in put volt ages of up to 14 V. Input terminal voltage Logic State 1,65V 14V High 0 1,65V Low - If the in put is dis abled, it does not gen er ate re ports and if polled, it al - ways re turns the rest ing state. - If the in put is pas sive, the changes do not gen er ate re ports but when polled, the ac tual state is re turned. - The De lay pa ram e ter de fines the min i mum time for which the new state must re main in or der for the change to be con sid ered valid. The de fault set ting is 100 ms. Pag. 9

ML-8 Cap. 6 - Operation Outputs 8 earthed Open Col lec tor out puts are avail able. The max i mum cur rent avail - able is 100 ma. If they are used for pi lot ing re lays, it is ad vis able to pro tect them us ing a di ode as shown in the diagram. The out puts can be used as re mote con trols which can be ac ti vated by the op er a tional con trol cen tre and can be pro grammed as static or im pul sive. It is pos si ble to ac ti vate one of the out puts to re port one or more sys tem faults lo cally. In this case, the as so ci ated out put can not be con trolled by the op er a - tional con trol cen tre (if the unit at tempts to do this, the pe riph eral re turns the message Command Refused). - the "Re versed" pa ram e ter is used to in vert the rest ing state and the ac - tive one: if en abled, the out put is nor mally ac tive and is de ac ti vated when com manded. - The Change State but ton makes it pos si ble to change the pro gram - ming state or car ry ing out an ac ti va tion test. If the out put is im pul sive, it will nat u rally re turn to the rest ing state af ter the set time Control channels (system faults) The ML-8 pe riph eral/in ter face has a se ries of con trols to mon i tor and trans - mit sys tem faults. All con trols, with the ex cep tion of No Mains Power and MvsNET Con nec tion con trol are ac ti vated by in sert ing a non-zero time in the field while, in or der to also as so ci ate trans mis sion in the op er a tional con trol cen tre, it is nec es sary to en able the rel a tive "Trans mis sion En abled" flag. Pag. 10 OUTPUT Open Collector Protection diode 1N Vcc + N.C. Pos si ble faults are as fol lows: - No mains power. The pres ence of the trans former AC volt age out put is mon i tored. If it is not avail able for lon ger than the set time, the rel a - tive event is gen er ated. - Pe riph eral tam per ing. The sta tus of the microswitch that re ports the open ing of the con tainer is checked. If there is an alarm, the rel a tive event is gen er ated. - Pe riph eral bat tery. The 12 VDC sup ply volt age is checked. If this drops to 10.5 V, the rel a tive event is gen er ated. When the volt age re - turns to 12.5V, re ac ti va tion oc curs. - No LAN line. The pres ence of the elec tri cal con nec tion of the Ethernet ca ble is mon i tored. When this fails (ca ble dis con nected or switch/hub off) for lon ger than the time set, the rel a tive event is gen er ated. - No LAN MvsNET con nec tion. As al ready ex plained, the pe riph eral con tin u ously uses poll ing pack ets to mon i tor the TCP/IP to the N.O.

Cap. 6 - Operation ML-8 MVSNet op er a tional con trol cen tre. If this fails for at least 4 min utes, the rel a tive event is gen er ated. This time is fixed. If the ad dress of the op er a tional con trol cen tre is pro grammed, this event can not be dis abled. Only re port ing to the con trol cen tre via a re - serve car rier, if avail able, can be en abled/dis abled, us ing the rel a tive flag. - No ex ter nal PSTN line. If an out side tele phone line is avail able, it can be used as a "last backup car rier" or for re mote pro gram ming a con trol unit. These func tions are avail able when the ML-8 is used as an in ter - face to for ward con trol unit re ports. In this case, the mon i tor ing of the pres ence of the line can be en abled by en ter ing a time other than zero. When the line is miss ing, at the ex - piry of the time, the rel a tive event is gen er ated. - No GSM line. If the BT-GSM ex pan sion card is pres ent, reg is tra tion on the ad min is tra tor net work is mon i tored. If this is not avail able for lon ger than the set time, the rel a tive event is gen er ated. - GSM module tampering. If the BT-GSM ex pan sion card is pres ent, the open ing of an op tional tam per switch to be placed on the P9 ter mi - nals on the card is mon i tored, ac cord ing to the ta ble be low: Open terminals: Shorted terminals: Tamper at rest Tamper in alarm mode - Con nect ing de vices to the RS485. If the BT-GSM ex pan sion card is pres ent, the con nec tion on the RS485 bus is mon i tored. In the event of a fail ure or sab o tage, the rel a tive event is gen er ated, which is im me di - ate (within sec onds). - Radio control battery. If one or more BT-KT/2 ra dio con trols are reg - is tered, this event in di cates that the bat tery of a ra dio con trol has fallen be low the thresh old of 6V Radio controls The ML-8 peripheral/interface can be fitted with an IRS-RT868 model radio interface in order to receive BT-KT/2 model burglary radio controls. Up to 16 radio controls can be used, each of which is identified in an unequivocal manner. Each radio control has two programmable buttons that can be associated with the panic or emergency functions or can activate one or two outputs, static or impulsive. The associated outputs can nevertheless still be activated by the operational control centre Log function All ac tiv i ties of the ML-8 pe riph eral/in ter face are stored in a log con tain ing the last 256 events. The old est events are grad u ally deleted. Pag. 11

ML-8 Cap. 6 - Operation DHCP protocol The ML-8 pe riph eral im ple ments the DHCP pro to col which, if en abled, makes it pos si ble to au to mat i cally con fig ure the IP ad dress, the Subnet Mask and gate way ad dress. A router is re quired on the net work to im ple ment this service Remote programming Us ing MVC soft ware, it is pos si ble to ac cess re mote pro gram ming in var i ous ways: - Via LAN, with ML-8 equipped with static IP. - Via LAN, with ML-8 equipped with dy namic IP and in staller equipped with static IP. - Via GSM, with data con nec tion with timed bill ing. - Via GPRS, with con nec tion and bill ing by traf fic (see cau tion). - From the op er a tional con trol cen tre, us ing one of the meth ods de - scribed above. The op er a tions to be car ried out and the pa ram e ters to pro gram ac cord ing to the type of con nec tion are de scribed in the MVC Pro gram ming sec tion : Re - mote as sis tance on page 36. WARNING WARNING! via GPRS, bill ing is based on the amount of data ex changed, but be cause the ML-8 pe riph eral uses dy namic MVC forms, even in the ab sence of changes to the pa ram e ters, data ex change is al - ways pres ent, there fore, al beit with dif fer ent costs, it is al ways time-based billing BT-GSM interface The ML-8 pe riph eral/in ter face can be equipped with the BT-GSM model GSM/GPRS card which makes it pos si ble to use the GPRS and SMS car ri - ers to trans mit in for ma tion, both in the event of a fault or if the LAN con nec tion is not pres ent. The BT-GSM card is de signed to be in serted into the ML-8 con tainer but can be used out side it, in all those cases where the in stal la tion so re quires (e.g. where the GSM sig nal is too low). The con nec tion is made with the RS485 bus with four wires and the max i mum con nec tion dis tance is 200 metres. The card can be used with a SIM card with an M2M con tract, in or der to re - duce op er at ing costs. To use the re mote as sis tance in data mode Pag. 12

Cap. 6 - Operation ML-8 (time-based con nec tion) there may be re stric tions de pend ing on the op er a - tor. Re fer to the In stall ing the SIM Card chap ter on page 19 WARNING WARNING! The BT-GSM firm ware must be ver sion or later. Ear lier ver - sions are not com pat i ble. In that case, as soon as the card is reg is tered on the ML-8, a warn ing mes sage is dis played. WARNING WARNING! The BT-GSM card can also han dle SIMs where the PIN is ac ti - vated. If the PIN is in cor rect or miss ing, the ML-8 pe riph eral makes only one at tempt to en ter the code, there fore if the pe riph eral is re - set or switched off and back on again, the PIN code is en tered again. Af ter three at tempts, the SIM is locked and must be un - locked us ing the PUK. In this case, it is nec es sary to re move the SIM from the mod ule, in sert it in a mo bile tele phone and enter the PUK code Transmission of control unit reports Use as a tele phone in ter face The ML-8 pe riph eral/in ter face is de signed to be able to con vert and trans mit tele phone sig nals from alarm con trol units. The tele phone cord leav ing the con trol unit (line) should be place on ter mi nals T1-T2 of the in ter face. When the con trol unit gets a line, the ML-8 in ter face gen er ates the free line sig nal and is ready to ac cept the call. The con trol unit can dial any num ber, which will be ig nored. At the end of the mes sage, the in ter face will ac knowl - edge re ceipt of the alarm us ing the ap pro pri ate tone (KissOff). At this point, the in ter face will trans mit the alarm to the op er a tional con trol cen tre us ing the pri mary car rier (LAN) or, if the GSM in ter face is pres ent, through a re serve car rier if the pri mary car rier is un avail able or out of or der. The re port re ceived from the con trol unit is con verted and trans mit ted in full, keep ing the pe riph eral code of the con trol unit it self. The following Ademco-compatible telephone protocols can be received: - Con tact-id Ex press (toni DTMF) Fast (Ademco Fast or SuperFast 4+9) (Ademco Fast ex tended) On the sim u lated tele phone line, the in ter face is able to pro vide a max i mum cur rent of 26 ma. Pag. 13

ML-8 Cap. 6 - Operation Automatic PSTN line exchange function When one or more con di tions oc cur that mean it is not pos si ble to trans mit sig nals through the con fig ured car ri ers, the ML-8 in ter face ac ti vates the re - lay by pass and keeps it ac tive for as long at these con di tions re main. In this way, the T1-T2 tele phone in put is placed di rectly on the L1-L2 line ter mi nals. If the tele phone line from out side is placed on these ter mi nals, the con trol unit is able to trans mit its re ports in the tra di tional way. For this rea son, if such a con nec tion is avail able, it is ad vis able to leave the tele phone pro gram ming of the con trol unit (e.g. tele phone num ber of the re - cip i ent, trans mis sion at tempts etc.) un changed. If, on the other hand, no such con nec tion is avail able, to get a line and connect to the simulator, simply dial any digit. The con di tions that must oc cur for the au to matic line by pass are as fol lows: - if the con trol is en abled, the ex ter nal PSTN line must be PRES ENT; - if the recipient IP address of the operational control centre is configured via LAN, the MvsNET connection must have been absent for at least four minutes; - if the con trol is en abled, the LAN must be AB SENT; - if the GSM mod ule is pres ent and the op er a tional con trol cen tre re cip i - ent is con fig ured (GPRS IP ad dress or SMS num ber), the line must be ab sent. If the GSM mod ule is not in stalled, the first three con di tions are sufficient Input PSTN line exchange function In put 8 can be en abled to ac ti vate the line ex change re lay on a time ba sis. This hap pens when the ter mi nal changes from OFF (closed to earth) to ON (open). The ac ti va tion time can be set be tween 1 and 240 seconds External PSTN line exchange function for remote assistance If the con trol unit can be con fig ured via re mote tele phone as sis tance and a tele phone line is also avail able on site, it is pos si ble to use a spe cial man ual func tion (ex ter nal PSTN) line con trol) that makes it pos si ble to by pass the ML-8 in ter face in or der to ac cess the con trol unit from out side. The ex ter nal line must be placed on the L1-L2 terminals. Programming mode must be en tered from the MVC and the Ac ti vate but ton (Gen eral page) pressed once or sev eral times. Each time the but ton is pressed, the con nec - tion time in creases by five min utes and can reach a max i mum of 30. Af ter this time, the ex ter nal line is re leased and the control unit returns to normal operation. Pag. 14

Cap. 6 - Operation ML Remote programming (without optional BT-GSM card) Re mote ac cess via LAN can take place in these two modes of use: - the pe riph eral/in ter face has a static IP reach able from the out side (pub lic); - the pe riph eral/in ter face has a dy namic IP and the in staller's PC has a static IP reach able from the out side (pub lic). In the first case, the in staller can con nect to the ML-8 pe riph eral/in ter face via MVC if it knows the fol low ing pa ram e ters: IP Ad dress, Pe riph eral Code, Pass word (if pro grammed). In the sec ond case, the IP ad dress of the in staller's PC must be en tered in the "IP Ad dress/hostname" field of the pe riph eral's Com mu ni ca tor page on the MVC Re mote Pro gram ming sub-page. The in staller can con nect to the pe riph eral from the PC spec i fied by this ad dress if it knows the Pe riph eral Code and Password parameters (if programmed) BT-GSM model GSM interface operation It is as sumed that the in ter face is con nected and the pe riph eral is pro - grammed cor rectly. When the GSM in ter face is switched on, in itial is ation of the GSM/GPRS mod ule be gins. At this stage, the five "LEVEL" LEDs light up in a back wards and for wards se quence. At the end, when reg is tra tion on the GSM net work is suc cess ful, the five LEDs light up de pend ing on the in ten sity of the sig nal. The more LEDs are lit, the higher the signal received. The fre quency of the flashes of the green DL1 LED indicates the registration status: 1 flash approximately every 4 seconds GSM registered on the network 1 flash approximately every second GSM being registered. The red DL6 LED in di cates the con nec tion on the 485 bus: 1 flash approximately every 2 seconds RS485 connection OK Slow ON/OFF flashing Device not registered, faulty or the RS485 cable is disconnected Pag. 15

ML-8 Cap. 6 - Operation Spontaneous transmissions The man age ment of spon ta ne ous trans mis sions, in both pe riph eral and in - ter face mode, takes place au to mat i cally with a set priority: - if avail able, the pe riph eral/in ter face con tin ues to try to send via LAN; - as the first re serve car rier, it at tempts to send via GPRS (the IP ad - dress must be pro grammed in the "IP Ad dress/gprs Hostname" field); - as a second reserve carrier, it sends the message via SMS (the recipient SMS number must be programmed on the General page and the number of the Service Centre must be programmed on the GSM module page). It is pos si ble to mon i tor the prog ress of op er a tions (in itial is ation, net work ac - cess, re cep tion, trans mis sion) dur ing MVC pro gram ming through the log win dow on the Com mu ni ca tor page. Al ter na tively it is pos si ble to con nect di rectly with the MVC on the BT-GSM mod ule via a se rial link. This con trol page (op er a tion log) pro vides more de - tailed in for ma tion, use ful in the event of mal func tion ing in order to identify the problem Polling The man age ment of poll ing oc curs in two dis tinct modes, de pend ing on whether the car rier is GPRS or SMS. In the case of GPRS, the op er a tional con trol cen tre must make a call to the num ber on the SIM card. Once the pe riph eral has ac knowl edged that the num ber is not one of the "spe cial" ones, it hangs up and ac ti vates the com - mu ni ca tion via GPRS to the IP of the op er a tional con trol cen tre ( IP Ad dress/gprs Hostname" pa ram e ter), equal to a spon ta ne ous trans mis - sion. In the case of an SMS, the op er a tional con trol cen tre must send an SMS con tain ing the poll ing mes sage to the pe riph eral, which only ever re sponds to the pro grammed re cip i ent ("SMS num ber" pa ram e ter). The num bers con sid ered as "spe cial" are those that, if de tected, ac ti vate spe cial func tions. In the Multilink ML-8 pe riph eral/in ter face, there is cur - rently only one spe cial num ber, the one pro grammed in the "Num ber for re mote pro gram ming GPRS / GSM DATA" pa ram e ter on the Com mu ni ca tor page, Re mote Pro gram ming (MVC) sub-page.
