USC Marshall School of Business Academic Information Services Configuring Outlook 2010 RPC Over HTTP Protocol For Windows 7 Home Computers or Wireless Laptops The steps in this document cover how to configure the software version of Outlook 2010 running on a Windows 7 computer and are intended for non-marshall domain computers such as home computers or laptops running on a wireless network. If you are a Marshall faculty or staff member, do not follow these steps on the computer in your office at Marshall. Note that the instructions use the RPC over HTTP protocol for connecting to Marshall s Exchange server so you will not need VPN to use the software version of Outlook. Note that if at any time during the setup process you are asked to login, click either Cancel or Work Offline depending upon the prompt. This handout contains instructions for the following types if Outlook installations: Option A: Connect to a Single Exchange Server (Pages 1-5) Follow the instructions Option A if you are not already connecting to a Outlook on this computer. Option B: Connect to Multiple Exchange Servers (Pages 6-7) Follow the instructions in Option B if you are already connecting this computer to an Exchange server such as your work server and would also like to connect to Marshall s Exchange server using another profile. Option A: Connect to a Single Exchange Server Follow the steps in this section if your computer is not already configured to connect to another Outlook Exchange server such as your work. For instructions on connecting to multiple Exchange servers, see Option B on page 6. 1. Click Start. 2. Click Control Panel. 3. Click Network and Internet. 4. Click User Account. 5. Click Mail. 6. 7. Click E-Mail 8. Click New. 9. Click E-Mail Account. 10. Click Next. 11. Select Manually configure server settings or additional server types. 12. Click Next. 13. Do not click the Check Name button until step 31! Working Offline: If you would like to be able to work offline, DO NOT check the Use Cached Exchange Mode box until after you have connected successfully for the first time. (This is also called Use local copy of Mailbox on some PCs. 15. In the Server box, you need to type the appropriate exchange server as shown below: Marshall Graduate Students: msbmail04.marshall.usc.edu Marshall Faculty & Staff: msbmail05.marshall.usc.edu 16. Type your user name (for example ttrojan) in the User Name box. 17. Click the More Settings button. 18. Click the Security tab. 19. Check Encrypt data between Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Exchange. 20. Check Always prompt for logon credentials. 21. Set Logon network security to Negotiate Authentication. Do not click Apply yet. 22. Click the Connection tab. 23. Check Connect using my Local Area Network (LAN). 24. Check Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP. 25. Click the Exchange Proxy Settings button. It is in this window that you configure the specifics of the RPC over HTTP session. 26. Click in the Use this URL to connect to my proxy server for Exchange and type: outlook.usc.edu 27. Check On fast networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP. 28. Check On slow networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP. 29. In Use this authentication when connecting to my proxy server for Exchange:, click the drop down and select: Basic Authentication. 30. Click OK then Apply then OK again to close the Microsoft Exchange Server window. (You should now be back at the E-mail Accounts window shown on the next page.) 31. Click the Check Name button. 32. If prompted, type your Marshall username and password then click OK. Outlook should have underlined the server address and converted your username to your underlined email address. 33. Click Next then Finish. Outlook will now prompt you to login. 34. At Username, type your Marshall username followed by @marshall.usc.edu in this format: @marshall.usc.edu For example, if your username is ttrojan, you would type: ttrojan@marshall.usc.edu Note that for Marshall students, this isn t your actual email address, the system just seems to find people more easily if they enter their username in this fashion. Option B: Connect to Multiple Exchange Servers If your computer is already configured to connect to another Exchange server such as your work Outlook email, you will probably want to create a 2 nd profile for Marshall. Follow the steps in this section to create a second profile. 1. Click Start. 2. Click Control Panel. 3. Click Network and Internet. 4. Click User Account. 5. Click Mail. 6. Click Show Profiles. 7. 9. In Profile Name, type a descriptive name for your profile such as USC Marshall. 10. Click OK. Outlook will prompt you with the Add New Account configuration window. These steps are the same as the ones covered in Option A. 11. Go to page 1 and follow steps 11-34. Launching Outlook If you have configured Outlook to connect to Marshall s Exchange server, you will not need VPN when connecting to your Marshall Outlook account. 1. Start Outlook. (Start Outlook). 2. If you have multiple profiles, use the drop down to select the profile you wish to use. 3. At Username, type your Marshall username followed by @marshall.usc.edu in this format: @marshall.usc.edu For example, if your username is ttrojan, you would type: ttrojan@marshall.usc.edu Note that for Marshall students, this isn t your actual email address, the system just seems to find people more easily if they enter their username in this fashion. 4.
