What is University Extension and what can it do for me? University Extension (UEX) is an academic unit of The University of Texas at Austin offering military service members and veterans the opportunity to earn college credit. No you don t need to be admitted to the University to enroll in our courses. Experience a UT Austin course while enjoying the flexibility of UEX s course options, including online courses and evening courses on the university campus. All UEX courses are approved by UT Austin departments and colleges, and grades appear on an official university transcript. All students pay the same affordable registration fees, regardless of residency status. UEX credit is transferable to UT Austin or to another university or college. Earning credit from one of the most prestigious universities in the country means that the credit you earn will be recognized wherever you ultimately earn your degree. What types of online courses do you offer? UEX offers two types of online courses cohort, or group courses, and self-paced independent study. In cohort courses, students interact online with the course instructor and fellow classmates, complete coursework online and take exams in an approved testing center. Online cohort courses follow a regular semester schedule, offered each fall, spring, and summer. In independent study online courses, students enroll any time and have five months to complete coursework. Regardless of your major or where you ultimately go to school, there is a set of basic, general education courses you need to take.
