Heralded by the New York Times as one of the finest skyscrapers built in any American City, IDS Center is more than a landmark, it is the centerpiece of the downtown Minneapolis skyline. World renowned architect Philip Johnson completed this award winning architecture in 1972 and it remains one of the most prominent properties west of the Mississippi River. Containing over 2 million SF, IDS Center s mixed-use post-modern design is comprised of a 57-story office tower with an 8-story annex, 2-story retail center and 19-story four diamond, Marquette Hotel (owned/operated by Hilton Properties), surrounding an enclosed indoor 8-story, 24,000 SF Crystal Court. IDS Center is located at the core of the skyway system for the Central Business District (CBD) and boasts the highest traveled skyways. The Crystal Court is the social networking hub/crossroads of the business and commerce for the CBD.
CRYSTAL COURT More people pass through the IDS Center s Crystal Court on any given day than live in many of Minnesota s cities. Traffic counts of those walking through the Court have often exceeded 50,000 a day. The white park benches, the 18 olive trees and the soothing sound of water dancing from a 105-foot ceiling-tofloor fountain reinforce why the Star Tribune called the Crystal Court the city s symbolic town square. Throughout the year, the IDS Crystal Court is host to a multitude of non-profit events and charitable fundraisers. Each winter holiday season, the Crystal Court is alive with the sounds of spirited music presented by the metro area s talented choirs, orchestras and performers in the annual Holidays Under Glass event. The Crystal Court, and the skyway level connecting four major downtown buildings, is also a center of exceptional retail stores, casual and fine dining and five major banks.
