Advocacy plays a key role in supporting children and young people to have their voices heard, their rights and entitlements met, providing a more holistic and positive experience of the care system. This is distinct from the role of the social worker and other professionals who have a duty to make best interest decisions for the child. Safer network Safe Activities For Everyone Working Together to Safeguard Children In 2013 DfE released a new guidance document called 'Working Together to Safeguard Children', since then this has been the core document that specifies safeguarding requirements and procedures for all adults who work/volunteer with children, young people and their families whatever their background. This document has been updated for 2015, and a copy of the document and the subsequent changes are available here: Working Together 2015 guidance http://www.safenetwork.org.uk/news_and_events/news_articles/pages/working-together-2015- guidance.aspx We cannot identify any major changes but it is important that as a group/organisation that works with children and young people you are as up to date as you can be with the new requirements and that your policies and procedures reflect any changes. Please remember that any volunteer working in your group/organisation MUST understand what is required of them to ensure the safety of children and young people in their care and know what to do should something go wrong. ------------------------------------------------------------------- funding See our website for more funding information http://www.staffscvys.org.uk/fundingandusefullinks.html SCVYS GRANTfinder Do you need funding for your organisation?
