Using our knowledge of what works, we support local authorities, care providers, policymakers, housing and health organisations to improve. We provide training and consultancy services, alongside our freely available resources. We can help you to improve the quality of care delivered to people who use services and their carers. We can support you to: review and improve your practice in line with developing evidence implement key national and local policies develop the skills and knowledge of your staff. All our work is co-produced with people who use services and carers, care providers, commissioners and policymakers. We work across both adults and childrens services. SCIEs evaluation of our Care Act programme was flexible, thorough and was undertaken with sensitivity to local pressures. Recommendations made have proved to be a good basis for making improvements. I would encourage other authorities to consider this type of approach and believe SCIE provide this in an objective and professional way. Alan Lotinga Service Director, Health and Wellbeing, Birmingham City Council 2

We set the standard for identifying and sharing knowledge in care and support. We are experts. We have over 14 years experience of supporting the care sector. Our staff, associates and partners include practice managers, trainers, researchers, evaluators, policy experts and management consultants. We deliver. We have a track record of providing cost-effective products and services to clients ranging from NHS England, to local authorities, care providers and housing associations. I am pleased to recommend SCIEs resources to local authority colleagues looking to implement the Care Act and to improve outcomes with and for local people. Ray James President, Association of Directors of Adult Social Services 4

6 Consultancy and improvement support SCIE consultants can help you to research, plan, commission, evaluate and deliver better care and support to people who use services. Policy implementation support Work with us to develop, deliver and evaluate your policy implementation plans, based on our knowledge from across the country and across sectors. For example, we can help you to evaluate progress on implementing the Care Act, the impact that it is having on the culture and behaviours of staff, and the delivery of services to local people. Improvement support to care providers We support care, health and housing providers to review and improve their practice in line with good practice, regulators and NICE standards. 7 Research and information services We undertake primary and secondary research, and scope information for you to use in your own research on key social care topics. Evaluation Our experts can evaluate the impact of your services, processes or systems, on a short-, medium- or long-term basis. We can also advise on how to carry out your own evaluation. Communications support User our contacts and knowledge of the social care sector to plan and deliver your communications and engagement activity. Health Foundation research on constructive conversations We are researching the factors that create constructive conversations between local health and care services and the communities they serve to transform services. Delivered in partnership with PPL and the Institute for Government, the project includes an analysis of literature and work with local areas planning changes. University of Birmingham organisational change We converted the University of Birminghams research on managing change into an accessible multimedia resource. The purpose of this resource is to support managers working in adult social care to be more knowledgeable about, and confident in the application of different approaches to managing change. 8

9 What our clients and delegates say The course has given me a better understanding of the eligibility criteria, therefore I will be better prepared to discuss this with service users.
