C H A P T E R 1 Intrducin SMART Bridit sftware Glbal Server Netwrk (GSN) ptin The SMART Bridit Glbal Server Netwrk is a netwrk f SMART Bridit Servers at different eraphical lcatins. The GSN ptimizes bandwidth and reduces latency by detectin the fastest server in each GSN and then autmatically cnnectin the client t that server, reardless f the server they initially cnnected t. Fr example, if there are five clients in Nrth America and five clients in Eurpe all cnnectin t the same meetin, and the GSN cnsists f ne server n each cntinent, each client autmatically cnnects t the nearest, fastest server. This results in nly ne hih latency verseas cnnectin, instead f five verseas cnnectins. A GSN wrks just as well fr different buildins in the same city, r even different netwrks in the same buildin. SMART Scheduler SMART Scheduler allws yu t create meetins in Micrsft Outlk that will autmatically start n a specified SMART Bridit Server. SMART Scheduler mnitrs the Micrsft Exchane server fr upcmin SMART Bridit meetins and starts the meetin n the SMART Bridit Server at the apprpriate time. SMART Scheduler Outlk add-in T use SMART Scheduler, install the SMART Scheduler Outlk add-in n yur client cmputers. Preparin fr installatin SMART Bridit sftware is scalable, s system requirements vary. The maximum number f users that a server can supprt is cnstrained by bth the server hardware and the netwrk bandwidth available t that server. The exact number f users supprted varies dependin n the available bandwidth and the use f Vice ver Internet Prtcl (VIP) audi and webcam functinality. Allwin mre than the recmmended number f simultaneus users may neatively impact perfrmance. T supprt mre users, cnfiure multiple servers t perate as a lbal server netwrk (GSN). N N OT E S T determine the amunt f bandwidth yu need, see Bandwidth requirements n pae 51. Yur system perfrms best if yu use a hih perfrmance server r a dedicated server with n ther applicatins installed. After yu purchase the sftware, yu receive an e-mail that includes prduct keys fr activatin the server sftware and user licenses. Five cncurrent users can cnnect t a SMART Bridit meetin usin a sinle server license. The server license starts with the letters BDS and must be installed and activated befre yu can install a user license, which starts with the letters BDC. T allw mre than five cncurrent users, yu must purchase additinal user licenses. Access requirements Befre yu can successfully install and use a SMART Bridit Server, yu must crrectly cnfiure yur netwrk envirnment. SMART Bridit Server sftware desn't autmatically d this. Therefre yu need access t varius cmpnents f yur netwrk infrastructure befre yu can cnfiure yur netwrk envirnment apprpriately. Use by clients with an Internet cnnectin If yur SMART Bridit Server will be accessible t clients via the Internet, yu need access t the fllwin cmpnents: Physical r remte lin access t, and an administratr lin accunt with cnfiuratin rihts fr, the ruters, firewalls and prxy servers between yur netwrk and the Internet. Lin access with cnfiuratin rihts t the Internet reistrar which cntrls yur cmpany's public Internet DNS recrds. Use f SMART Scheduler If yu want t use the SMART Bridit Outlk add-in and SMART Scheduler interatin with Micrsft Exchane, yu need physical r remte lin access t, and an administratr lin accunt with cnfiuratin rihts fr, yur cmpany's dmain server. This server is used t create user accunts fr use n yur Micrsft Exchane Server. Administratr rihts After yu've installed and cnfiured the SMART Bridit Server, yu may want t administer the server t check infrmatin such as perfrmance ls and use recrds. T d this, yur administratr needs physical r remte lin access and a user lin accunt n the SMART Bridit Server cmputer. 8
C H A P T E R 2 Installin SMART Bridit sftware Abut SMART Bridit security Server security SMART Bridit sftware cmplies with the Secure Scket Layer (SSL) 3.0, t encrypt data transmitted usin a TCP cnnectin. It uses OpenSSL t enerate a self-sined SSL certificate used fr data encryptin. Each time the server starts, it enerates a new 1024-bit SSL certificate and it netiates a new 256-bit encryptin key with each client. Hwever, if a client is unable t netiate a set f encryptin keys with the server, n cnnectin is established. SMART Bridit sftware als uses Secure Real-time Transprt Prtcl (SRTP) t encrypt audi traffic transmitted usin a UDP cnnectin. These encryptins prevent third parties frm interceptin data transmitted between client and server. The cipher suite netiated between a Windws peratin system server and client is an AES256- SHA cipher suite, includin RSA encrypted key exchane, diest authenticatin, and 256-bit SSL data encryptin. SMART Bridit sftware fr Mac OS peratin system sftware als implements 256-bit SSL encryptin. Client security System administratrs and meetin creatrs can set fur types f passwrds t enhance SMART Bridit sftware security. These passwrds aren't mandatry. I I M P OR T A N T If yu assin a server access passwrd, yu must als assin a cnference creatin passwrd. If yu use a private dmain name, yur SMART Bridit Server is accessible nly t clients cnnectin frm within yur LAN. Reistered dmain name T access a server ver the Internet, yu must use a fully qualified dmain name (FQDN) that exists in the recrds f a public DNS server. If an FQDN isn't available fr yur server, users can access yur server ver the Internet usin its IP address directly. I I M P OR T A N T D nt mix FQDNs and unqualified dmain names (thse nt reistered n a DNS server) in the same SMART Bridit Server Glbal Server Netwrk (GSN). IPv4/IPv6 addresses Durin the installatin prcess, SMART Bridit sftware detects the IP addresses bund t the servers' netwrk interface cards. Yu can chse t bind SMART Bridit sftware t ne r all f the cmputers' IP addresses, if there is mre than ne IP address assined t the cmputer. T check if yur public dmain name reslves t an IP address 1. On the cmputer where yu'll install the SMART Bridit Server sftware, select Start > Run. 2. Type cmd, and then press ENTER. A Cmmand Prmpt windw appears. 3. Use the ipcnfi cmmand t determine the server s IP address. 4. Use either the nslkup cmmand r the pin cmmand aainst the dmain name fr the SMART Bridit Server t determine the IP address that the netwrk s DNS returns. 5. Cmpare this IP address t the SMART Bridit Server s IP address frm step 3. If the IP addresses are the same, the netwrk s DNS is cnfiured crrectly. N N OT E S Yur dmain name must reslve t a valid IP address fr yu t be able t use it t cnfiure yur SMART Bridit Server. The pin can fail fr reasns unrelated t the public dmain name and still reslve t a cmputer name r IP address. 10

Hwever, SMART recmmends installin yur SMART Bridit Server behind a firewall t prevent unauthrized access. The firewall must pen prt 80 fr HTTP traffic cmin int the server and in ut t the client. N N OT E SMART desn't recmmend deplyin SMART Bridit Servers with nly HTTP cnnectivity. Cnfiurin firewalls Yu can install yur SMART Bridit Server behind a sftware firewall, prxy server, hardware firewall r ruter. Fr ptimal perfrmance, enable bth primary and secndary TCP prts and a rane f UDP prts fr Vice ver Internet Prtcl ( VIP) audi n the server. Firewalls fr the server shuld allw inbund cmmunicatin t the server n all specified prts. Firewalls fr the client shuld allw utbund cmmunicatin frm the client n all specified prts. Fr best perfrmance, allw inbund TCP and UDP traffic t the server n the default prts specified in the fllwin table. If this prt is blcked r unavailable, SMART Bridit uses the HTTP prtcl n the primary prt, which can affect perfrmance. 11

Yu can further enhance yur netwrk security by enablin authenticatin, such as basic, diest r NT LAN Manaer (NTLM) authenticatin. SMART Scheduler Server uses this mailbx t manae SMART Bridit meetins. Yu must have a lcal administratr accunt set up in the Windws dmain assciated with the mailbx described abve. SMART Scheduler Server uses Windws user authenticatin t run the service as well as t access the Exchane mailbx. The SMART Scheduler Server must nt have Micrsft Outlk installed n it. Yu must have SMART Bridit Server installed and runnin n either a separate cmputer (recmmended) r, if required, n the same cmputer where yu'll install SMART Scheduler Server. I I M P OR T A N T D nt use a persnal mailbx fr SMART Scheduler Server sftware. The SMART Scheduler Server sftware will autmatically and permanently delete anythin in this mailbx, includin e-mail messaes and calendar appintments. If yur netwrk uses netwrk address translatin (NAT), use prt frwardin t redirect external requests t the NIC. If yu install SMART Bridit Server sftware n a server runnin ther web server applicatins (fr instance Micrsft IIS, r any ther web server applicatin usin Prt 80), yu can cnfiure SMART Bridit by: Usin IP specific bindin. Each server binds t a specific IP address. Yu can add multiple IP addresses t a sinle NIC n Windws servers by selectin Cntrl Panel > Netwrk Cnnectins > Internet Prtcl (TCP/IP). Custmizin the default primary server prt. In this case, multiple applicatins can bind t the same IP address but n different prts. This setup requires users t specify the prt when cnnectin SMART Bridit client (fr example server.cmpany.cm). Installin the server sftware T install SMART Bridit Server sftware 1. Dwnlad SMART Bridit sftware, and then duble-click the CnferenceServicesSetup.exe file yu dwnladed. 2. Run the sftware. The SMART Bridit - Installshield Wizard pens and displays the start-up screen. 3. Click Next. The Licence Areement pae appears. 4. T use all the addresses, select All in the IPv4 address r IPv6 address bxes. N N OT E S If yu select all addresses, SMART Bridit sftware clients can use any IP address assined t the server cmputer t cntact the SMART Bridit Server. T restrict the IP addresses thruh which yur server is reachable, select a specific IP address. Public dmain name If the IP address fields are unavailable, SMART Bridit sftware has autmatically detected that yu dn t have mre than ne IP address t chse frm. Each SMART Bridit Server requires a fully qualified dmain name (fr example, server.cmpany.cm r cnference.cmpany.cm) r a hst name (fr LAN access nly). I I M P OR T A N T If yu use the cmputer s netwrk hst name as the dmain name, the server will be accessible nly frm within the lcal area netwrk. Internet users wn't have access t the server. D nt mix fully qualified dmain names and cmputer hst names within the same SMART Bridit GSN. 7. Click Next. The Server Prt Cnfiuratin pae appears. 17

If yur server is runnin anther applicatin that uses prt 80, yu must assin SMART Bridit sftware t an unccupied prt. Cnfiure yur firewall t allw incmin and utin TCP traffic n yur chsen prt. By default, SMART Bridit sftware uses prt 9933. If yu want t use a different prt, make sure it desn't cnflict with any ther applicatins runnin n the server cmputer. N N OT E Enable UDP prts (audi ptimizatin) If yur server is runnin anther applicatin that uses either f these prts, yu must assin SMART Bridit sftware s primary and secndary prts t unccupied prts. Cnfiure yur firewall t allw incmin and utin TCP traffic n the chsen prts. Whenever pssible, SMART Bridit sftware uses UDP fr audi transmissin t avid the additinal verhead f TCP in a timinsensitive situatin. SMART strnly recmmends that yu enable UDP t minimize audi la in SMART Bridit meetins. Yu must pen a rane f UDP prts (9901 t 9920) n yur firewall t use this feature. N N OT E S If yu cnfiure SMART Bridit Server sftware t use a TCP prt that isn t the default, users must specify the prt when cnnectin t the server. Fr example, t cnnect t a SMART Bridit Server n prt 8080, users must type server.cmpany.cm: 8080. A UDP prt supprts up t 10 participants with ptimal perfrmance. By default, SMART Bridit sftware pens 20 UDP prts t allw t apprximately 200 cncurrent participants. Open mre prts t accmmdate mre participants. If yur netwrk uses a firewall, yu must cnfiure it t allw incmin TCP and UDP traffic n these prts. 9. Click Next. The Server Passwrd Security pae appears. 18

I I M P OR T A N T Cnference Creatin passwrd If yu assin a Server Access passwrd, yu shuld als assin a Cnference Creatin passwrd. This ptinal passwrd is used by the client t create a meetin n the SMART Bridit Server. Users wh type the cnference creatin passwrd can als see the list f active meetins n the server. N N OT E After yu've installed SMART Bridit Server sftware, yu can use SMART Bridit Administratin Tls t create additinal server access and cnference creatin passwrds. 11. Click Next. The Ready t Install pae appears. 12. Click either Install t start the installatin, r Back t chane the settins. After yu click Install, the In Prress windw appears and the installatin validates. A GSN ptimizes bandwidth and reduces latency fr enterprise SMART Bridit deplyment. Yu dn't have t install the GSN separately. Install the SMART Bridit Server sftware and use SMART Bridit Administratin Tls t cnfiure the GSN ptins. See Installin the server sftware n pae 16 fr installatin infrmatin. SMART Bridit Servers in a GSN Yu install each server in a GSN as an independent SMART Bridit Server. Once included in a GSN, each independent server becmes a nde in the netwrk with independent server capabilities. Requirements and prerequisites The requirements fr a GSN Server are the same as a standard SMART Bridit Server. See Preparin fr installatin n pae 6 fr details. Settin up a lcal GSN server When yu install SMART Bridit Server sftware, a shrtcut t SMART Bridit Administratin Tls appears n yur desktp. N N OT E S Chanes made n the Optins, Audi and Security tabs in SMART Bridit Administratin Tls n ne server in a GSN autmatically apply t all servers in that GSN. Yur server name shuld describe yur lcal server in plain lanuae. The server passwrd is used by ther servers in the GSN t add yur server. This passwrd is mandatry. 31
