LUKE S INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY ADMISSIONS FOR MASTER S PROGRAM IN NURSING SCIENCE (Entrance Examination for Special International Students) Application Information for the 2015 2016 Academic Year 1. NUMBER OF STUDENTS ADMITTED A few students 2. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS A person from abroad*, who comes to Japan to enter the master s program in Nursing Science at St. Luke s International University, must fulfill all of the following requirements**. 1) A person who was awarded a bachelor s degree or the equivalent in a foreign country (A person who is expected to be awarded a bachelor s degree or the equivalent in a foreign country by the end of March 2015), or A person who studied distant learning courses of a foreign institution in Japan, and was awarded a bachelor s degree or the equivalent (A person who is expected to be awarded a bachelor s degree or the equivalent by the end of March 2015) 2) A person who is eligible for 3-2, Admission Policy of International Students of Graduate Program, St. Luke's International University (1) A person sponsored by a public institution such as the national government (2) An exchange student under the International Affiliation Agreement with St. Luke s International University College of Nursing, or the equivalents (3) A person admitted by the Graduate Program Committee of St. Luke's International University College of Nursing*** 3) A person who has sufficient language ability to handle the course content given by Japanese or English. (1) Japanese language requirements: Level 1 of Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) or equivalent level. (2) English language requirements: Minimum TOEFL 80(iBT) /213(CBT)/ 550(PBT) for non-native English speakers or equivalent *A person who is a foreign national who is not authorized to stay on a permanent basis by the Japanese government. ** An applicant must contact the faculty member who is a prospective academic advisor or the chairperson of the graduate program before submitting the application. *** An applicant who does not meet the category 1) or 2) above should contact the Graduate Program Committee by October 13 th 2014 to confirm eligibility.
3. APPLICATION DOCUMENTS 1) Application Form (designated form): Fill in the application form, attach a photo of the upper half of the body taken within the last three months 2) Official Transcripts: An original copy of the transcript of all undergraduate courses with grades or evaluations received, sealed properly in an envelope, must be submitted. The transcripts should contain the name of the president of the school where the applicant completed the undergraduate program. The transcripts in languages other than English and Japanese should be accompanied with an official translation in English. 3) Official College/University Certificate of (Expected) Graduation: University/college issued (expected) graduation certificate or official letter indicating the date of graduation and title of degree must be submitted. 4) Letter of Recommendation (designated form): One letter of recommendation is required. An applicant is advised to seek the letter from an individual who is in a position to objectively evaluate academic and professional performance. The letter must be properly sealed in an envelope. 5) Language Certificates (1) The language of instruction for the applicant is Japanese: Level 1 Certificate of Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) or equivalent (2) The language of instruction for the applicant is English (non native speakers of English): TOEFL score of 80(iBT)/213(CBT)/550(PBT) or equivalent 6) Application Fee: A non-refundable fee of 40,000 yen. The postal money order payable to St. Luke s International University should be enclosed with other application documents. 7) Certificate of Alien Registration: Photocopies of both sides of Certificate of Alien Registration must be submitted. They should contain the information on visa status and period of stay: In case that an applicant comes to Japan within 90 days and has not obtained the certificate, submit a copy of all pages of the passport***. 8) A Photo: the same as the one attached to the application form 9) A Stamped Self-addressed Envelope: An applicant ID card will be sent to an applicant using this envelope. An envelope must be the size of 20cm length x 9cm width, written name and address of the applicant, and with adequate postage. **** According to the Immigration Control and Refugee Act (Act No. 319 of 1951), an applicant is responsible for obtaining an appropriate visa status to start the master s program in April 2015.
4. APPLICATION 1) Application Method: by postal mail Write Application Documents for Master s Program Enclosed on an envelope in red ink, and send it by registered mail to the following address. Admissions Office St. Luke's International University 10-1 Akashi-cho, Chuo-ku, Tokyo 104-0044 Application opens on November 17, 2014 and ends on November 25, 2014. The applications must be postmarked no later than November 25, 2014. 2) Applicant ID card: will be sent back upon receipt of the required application documents and application fee. 5. SCREENING Interview (English or Japanese) 6. SCREENING INTERVIEW DATE AND PLACE Date: December 5, 2014 (Fri) Place: Main building, St. Luke's International University 7. SCREEING RESULTS Date: December 10, 2014 (Wed) A letter of notification regarding the results will be sent to an applicant. (A telephone inquiry is not accepted.) 8. ADMISSION PROCEDURES AND TUITION The entrance fee, the tuition and laboratory and maintenance fee of the first semester must be paid to start the admission procedures. Payment starts on December 10, 2014 (Wed) and end on January 23, 2015 (Fri) Certificate of Admission will be sent upon receipt of the entrance fee. The amount of the tuition fee is determined in December of each year. 9. ENTRANCE SCHEDULE Early April 2015. The date will be determined later. 10. OTHERS 1) If the required application documents are imperfect, the application may not be accepted. 2) The application fee is non-refundable. 3) There is the sabbatical leave program for the faculty members, and some of them may be on a long leave.
