Background Information Mission Statement LSU TigerRacing is dedicated to the professional development of each participating member through the process of competing in the globally international engineering competition, Formula SAE. Using the knowledge from the classroom, students design, manufacture, and build a race vehicle for competition. During this process, each member learns valuable technical, communication, organizational, and teamwork skills that are vital to the success of their professional careers. What is FSAE? The Formula Society of Automotive Engineer competition was started by the Society of Automotive Engineers non-profit educational and scientific organization that is dedicated to the advancing mobility technology. This competition challenges SAE student members to create an open-wheel racecar based on a set of specifications outlined in the rules manual. At the competition, teams must go through both dynamic and static testing. For dynamic testing, the actual performance of the vehicle is tested by means of the acceleration test, skip pad, autocross, and endurance. For static events, the teams present their cost report, business presentation, and design presentations. These static events highlight the importance of communication and organization. Louisiana State University FSAE LSU FSAE started off originally as a Mechanical Engineering capstone design project. In 2012, two students noticed the potential of FSAE as a learning tool for all students, and they formed the FSAE student organization. Now open to all students in any major, the team consists of Mechanical, Electrical, Petroleum, and Civil Engineering students along with Public Relations and Business majors. With this diverse group of students, the team has steadily improved its design and vehicle performance. Fighting budget problems, the 2013 team placed 73 rd overall, but it was a vast improvement from the 105 th place of previous teams. Continuing with a better iteration of the 2013 car, the 2014 team placed 40 th overall in the Michigan competition. 2
