Directie ITS Information and Technology Services USER MANUAL Wireless Printing from OS X (Mac) Note: This manual is written for OS X version 10.7 and higher This manual describes how to print with a wireless connection from Mac OS X. You have to be connected to the wireless network Eduroam at Utrecht University. The screen prints are from OS X Mavericks, but this manual can also be used for OS X Yosemite. What should you do? Screenshot Step 1 Ensure that you are connected to the Eduroam network. It should be available in most buildings at Utrecht University. Step 2 Download the driver for the Xerox Printers by going to the Xerox Website. Search for WorkCentre 7855. Click on Drivers & Downloads (with built-in controller). Step 3 Expand the menu under Operating System. Select your version of OS X from the dropdown menu. 2 07-09-15
Step 4 Click Mac OS X Print Driver Installer Package 10.7, 10.8, 10.9, 10.0. (top option) Step 5 Click Accept. The file will now begin downloading. When the download has been completed, in the dock click the Downloads icon (next to the trash), which will expand upwards. Next click XeroxPrintDriver. Step 6 Double-click Xerox Print Driver <version>.pkg. 3 07-09-15
Step 7 The installation proces will start with the screen depicted. Click Continue. Moving forward click: - Continue twice more, - then Agree, - then Install. Step 8 When the installation has been completed this login box will appear. Enter the username and password for your laptop. This has to be a user with installation rights. Click Install Software. The driver will now be installed. Step 9 In the menu bar at the top click the Apple icon and choose System Preferences 4 07-09-15
Step 10 Click Printers & Scanners. Step 11 Click the + to add a printer. Step 12 Right-click (or tap the touchpad with two fingers) on the toolbar (the bar with the icons). Choose Customize Toolbar Step 13 Drag Advanced (click and hold) to the toolbar. The icon will now be added there. Click Done. 5 07-09-15
Step 14 Click Advanced and select or type the following: Type: Windows printer via spoolss URL: smb://print.uu.nl/black Name: Follow Me Printer Use: Select Software (N.B.: it is possible to use the Generic PostScript-printer driver. However you can then only print in colour and not use staples and such.) Click Add. Step 15 Select Xerox Workcentre 7855 <version> and click OK. 6 07-09-15
Step 16 Click Add. Step 17 The printer will now be installed. This can take several minutes, wait untill this screen disappears. Step 18 You will now see the installed printer in the column to the left (Follow Me Printer idle). Click it once. Next click Options & Supplies. 7 07-09-15
Step 19 Click the tab Options. Step 20 Under Finisher select Office Finisher LX and click OK. Close the screen Printers & Scanners with the (red) cross in the top left corner. Step 21 The next steps are meant to further configure the printer. Microsoft Word will be used as an example to demonstrate this. If you do not have this software intalled you can try using a different word processor. Open Microsoft Word and open an empty document. In the menubar at the top click File and then Print 8 07-09-15
Step 22 Click Copies & Pages and select Xerox Features. Click Paper/Delivery and select Color options. Next check the box Black and White. Do NOT click Print yet! Step 23 Click Default Settings and select Save Current Settings as Preset. As a name (preset) type Black and click OK. Now click Print. 9 07-09-15
Step 24 In the login box enter you Solis-id and password. Note: your username is soliscom\ followed by your Solis-id. So: soliscom\solis-id. E.g., if your Solis-id is 1234567 : soliscom\1234567. Next click OK. Hint: Check the box Remember this password in my keychain. Then you don t have to enter your password for each print job. Step 25 In the menu bar at the top click File and then Print again. Click Copies & Pages and select Xerox Features. Click Paper/Delivery and select Color options. Next check the box Automatic Color. Do NOT click Print yet! 10 07-09-15
Step 26 Click Default Settings and select Save Current Settings as Preset. As a name type Colour and click OK. Now click Print. Should a prompt for a username and password appear, enter these as described in Step 24. Step 27 The printers have now been installed. From now on when you give a print job you can choose (under Presets ) between Black and Colour. 11 07-09-15
