1 Guide To: Wireless Printing on IADT Campus Great news, all wireless enabled stadent and staff laptops based around the Microsoft operating systems can now print to IADT printers through the wireless network. We are also working on a Apple Mac solution but this is a more complicated process. Please note that all activities on IADT s Wireless Network are subject to IADT s ICT A/AUP and the IADT Wireless Network AUP. Below gives a detailed decription on how one goes about setting up wireless printing for a Microsoft based operating system: Requirements to use this service are: Microsoft Windows (XP or Windows 7) based laptop Wireless network card (normally built in) Be a member of IADT s Student or Staff cohort Have an up to date version of virus protection installed on the laptop Have all crtical window updates installed on the laptop Install lanconnect.bat onto the laptop Your staff or student card Your print account to be in credit

2 Lanconnect.bat: To print from a Microsoft Windows based laptop on IADT WIRELESS network one needs to copy a file called lanconnect.bat to the laptop s windows directory. This file authinticates the user with the printing system and allow you to collect your printouts using your student or staff card. This file can be downloaded to a USB memory stick from the following location \\sideshowbob1\student Class Files\Wireless After copying the file to your laptop via a USB memory stick (you only need to do this once) you need to connect to IADT wireless and then connect to remote file share. Connect to IADT Wireless: Connect the laptop to the IADT WIRELESS network as seen in figure 1 Figure 1: IADT WIRELESS Connected Open an Internet Explorer page, you will be challenged with the following certificate warning (Fig 2) Click on continue to website Figure 2: Certificate Error

3 A logon page for the wireless network will then appear in the browser window (Fig. 3) Enter your IADT login credentials and password. Figure 3: Network Login Page Once the correct credentials have been enters, your browser will then be redirected to the IADT home page. Remote Access: As previously stated you also need to connect to the Remote Access service ( You can also access this service through the Quicklinks on the IADT home page as shown below in fig 4. 4 Your browser will be challenged with a warning paged and you will be asked to install an add on from Juniper Networks. Juniper Networks is the provider of our remote server solution. 5 You will be prompted to install the JuniperSetupClient software (Fig. 7). This software that allows your laptop to connect to the remote server. Figure 7: JuniperSetupClient.cab permission install request Figure 8: Software Execution Request Once the installation has been completed, you should see the logon page (Fig. 9) if your virus protection is ok and up to date. 6 If not you will see an error screen like the one shown below (Fig. 10) Figure 10: IADT Portal Error Page Highlighting that anti virus software in not up to date on the computer. Once you do get the log in screen, enter your IADT credentials and log into the remote server service. If you have installed the lanconnect.bat file correctly you will see the following screen (fig. 11) requesting you to enter your username. Enter your username as institute\username you must put in the institute\ before your username Figure 11: Printingsrv requests username and password

7 You should be prompted that the command completed successfully as below fig 12 Figure 12: Command completed Install Printer Drivers: You need to install the printers on to your laptop, you only need to do this once. To install the printer drivers on to your laptop click on start then click run. Then type in \\printingsrv as shown below press OK Figure 13: Run command You will see the following screen to install the 2 printers click on HP 9500 Printer HP5000_IADT this will install the HP 9500 colour printers.

9 XEROX 7665 Printer To set up the Xerox 7665 printers (based in the Atrium building). Follow the above but click on the X7665_IADT to install the Xerox colour printers After this the printers are installed to print to them just select them when printing you then collect your prints by swiping your card. Remote File Access: As part of the process you will also now be able to access all your files on Sideshowbob and those associated with your lecturer. The below image shows the remote file access screen here you can see the links to your Home Drive (n: on the computers) and also lecturers on sideshowbob.
