Get to know the SPEAKERS James Troha Juniata College President Dr. James Troha was named the 12th president of Juniata College on Nov. 20, 2012, by the Juniata Board of Trustees. President Troha came from Heidelberg University, where he was Executive Vice President for Institutional Advancement and University Relations. He oversaw all elements of the institution s fundraising, marketing and university relations efforts. President Troha also brings experience as Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, Vice President of Enrollment, and served as Interim President at Heidelberg. In his first year at Juniata, he filled two vacancies on his senior leadership team, launched a new strategic planning process, and spent time getting to know the various teams and learning about our strengths and opportunities for growth and development. President Troha has recently accepted an appointment to the Huntingdon County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. Gabriel Welsch Juniata College Vice President of Advancement and Marketing Gabe started his career at Penn State, where he earned a bachelor's and master's of fine arts degree in English. While a grad student, Gabe held an assistantship as editorial assistant for Penn State's Arts Marketing office. After graduation in 1998, he joined Penn State's Liberal Arts development office as a staff writer. From 19982005, he taught writing and literature courses in the English department, edited Liberal Arts magazine, served as communications director. Gabe was given administrative responsibility for the Liberal Arts advancement office's alumni relations, communication, volunteer and stewardship programs in 2005. Originally Gabe joined Juniata in 2007 as Assistant Vice President of Marketing, bringing to the position his variety of experience in editing, writing, teaching, fundraising communication, and administration. In 2009, he was promoted to Vice President of Advancement and Marketing. Gabe is also a publishing writer, with stories, poems, essays and reviews appearing in scores of national literary journals. phone
Get to know the SPEAKERS Grace Fala Juniata College Professor of Communication Professor Fala teaches courses in public speech, small group presentations, interpersonal communication, intercultural communication, and rhetoric at Juniata. She graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in speech communication and a minor in music, and has an M.A. in philosophy from West Chester University. She received her Ph.D. in speech communication at The Pennsylvania State University. Her scholastic honors include the Kathryn DeBoer Distinguished Teaching Award in 1992 (P.S.U.); The West Chester University Foundation Award in 1976; The Institute for Women Graduate Award in 1986, and the Woman of the Year Award in 1997. In 1998, she earned the Junior Faculty Teaching award at Juniata. Dr. Fala has presented conference papers for the International Communication Association, the National Communication Association, the Eastern Communication Association, and the Speech Communication Association of Pennsylvania. She has conducted research on the rhetoric of woman's suffrage, the rhetoric of sexual orientation, the coming out process, language & empowerment, communication & diversity, gender communication, creativity and communication, and transactional listening. An active member of the Speech Communication Association of Pennsylvania, she has chaired numerous interest councils and has been a member of the Executive Board for the past nine years. She has worked as a debate judge, a communication consultant, and a speech coach. While teaching at Juniata, Grace supervises the annual Soap Box Speeches, the Great Orations (GO) Program, and the Alternative Ways of Loving (AWOL) Program. Her personal and professional views of education can be summed up in a few sentences: My vocation/avocation is to create possibilities for learning/loving to occur. That's why I think good teachers do less talking & more listening. She and a friend share a farmette with two horses, 8 hens, 5 ducks, 2 cats, and 2 bunnies. Patty Lilja Mailing Standard Specialist USPS Patty has been with the USPS for 31 years and has had the opportunity to work in many different capacities. She has worked as a letter sorting machine clerk, window clerk, station clerk, special delivery driver. Her current position with the USPS is as a mailing standards specialist. Patty was promoted to this position in March of 2014. Her previous position was as a mailing Requirements clerk which she held for seven years. While working in these two jobs she has had the opportunity to learn and help many mailers with various mailing options and solutions. Such as, Intelligent Mail Barcode transition, Intelligent Mail small business tool, navigating the Business Customer Gateway and all of its features, Manifesting and Plant Load mailings, Intelligent Mail small parcel requirements and transition, nonprofit requirements and all other mailing requirements. message
Get to know the SPEAKERS Bob Scheidler BMEU Supervisor USPS Bob Scheidler has been with the United States Postal Service for 37 years. He has had the opportunity to witness the Postal service grow from a cumbersome manual operation to a streamlined automated system. Bob has held various positions in his career, the most fulfilling being 23 years in Business Mail Entry and Mailing Requirements. He transitioned to a clerk in business mail in 1990 and from there, moved to Mailing Requirements giving him the opportunity to work with customers hands on. Bob enjoys working with customers and has conducted numerous training classes as well as on site visits to businesses. His objective is to guide customers through the new requirements and ensure they are receiving the best service for their needs. Brenda Fick President Brynka, Philadelphia, PA Brenda started in the consulting, training and implementation of IBM mainframes as a Regional installer for a major retailer in the early 1980 s. While working there, she developed an indepth knowledge of all the pieces involved in the technology business and what it takes to grow in that field. In the early 1990 s she provided diverse organizations with innovative technologies and methods to reduce costs and significantly increase efficiency and profits with the warehousing, shipping and mailroom operations. In early 2000, Brenda acquired Connected Business Solutions. In 2011 Connected changed the name of the company to Brynka as a unique global brand. Her strong sense of business knowledge in the technology field has benefited both the employees and partners of BRYNKA. For over 12 years, she has led BRYNKA s growth, offering the best cloudbased solutions since 2001. Brenda has been speaking about Mail and Distribution Centers for many years, bringing her vast experience to interactive conferences that discuss issues and processes in a workshop environment. Brenda s commitment to her company has extended to the partnerships she has procured throughout the years, and it just shows how dedicated she is to helping businesses find choices with savings that make sense. Barry Gesserman VP Business Development, ipostal1 Barry has worked alongside entrepreneurial leaders in both large corporations and startup companies to bring the business vision to life, with expertise in developing and implementing new growth strategies, bringing new products to market, and ramping up new ventures. He has been with ipostal1 since 2012. Prior to working with ipostal1, Barry served in a variety of leadership roles at The Campbell Soup Company in brand management, business development and logistics, and led marketing and sales to launch a new company using sense technology for advertising and sampling.
