Ambrose Speaking Prize first place WORK EXPERIENCE 2008-present Princeton University, Deputy Dean of the College ( Promoted to a new position in the Office of the Dean of the College as the senior colleague to the Dean. Responsibilities include independent oversight of personnel and academic programs that formerly reported directly to the dean of the college, including staff supervision. In the former office structure, served as one of five associate deans. All responsibilities of the Associate Dean position (below) are included in the new position Princeton University, Associate Dean of the College Responsible for all issues related to the undergraduate curriculum, and the work of the Princeton Writing Program, the Community-Based Learning Initiative, and the McGraw Center for Teaching and Learning. Specific duties include: As Secretary for the Committee on the Course of Study, oversee the approval of all new undergraduate courses, and work with chairs and departmental representatives on curricular requirements. Serve as director of the Program of Freshman Seminars in the Residential Colleges, recruiting over 70 faculty members each year and managing the income on an endowment of $10 million. Primary investigator on a federal grant that includes direct federal and matching university funds for a consortium grant totaling nearly $1 million a year for three years.

2 Committee work includes: Committee on Academic Technology (Chair); NCAA Re-Accreditation Committee (Chair, Academic Integrity subcommittee); Princeton Writing Program Internal Review Committee (Chair); McGraw Center for Teaching and Learning Internal Review Committee (Chair); Faculty Committee on the Course of Study (Secretary); Committee on Discipline (Chair the Committee in the absence of the Dean of Undergraduate Students and serve as standing chair of the Subcommittee on Sexual Harassment and Sexual Assault; Council for International Teaching and Research (including a subcommittee on less commonly taught languages); Faculty Advisory Committee on Athletics; Faculty Athletics Representative to the NCAA; Committee on Classrooms and Scheduling; Faculty Committee on Library and Computing; Institutional Research Survey Planning Group; Council on Science and Technology; Member: Governing Board of the Consortium for Language Teaching and Learning (an Ivy League consortium); Princeton s Institutional Accreditation Liaison Officer with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education Yale University, Dean of Davenport College, and Lecturer, Department of Political Science ( Served as the primary representative of the Yale College Dean s Office in this residential college, melding the areas of student and academic affairs into a single position. Responsibilities included the academic and personal counseling of undergraduates in the college; working closely with the Master on the administration and support of other Residential College functions, such as housing and social activities; and membership on Yale College Faculty Committees. Administrative assignments included: President s Faculty Committee on Athletics, Secretary of the Teaching and Learning Committee, Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Special Divisional Major, and Coordinator of the Freshman Seminar Program University of Wisconsin-Madison, Assistant Dean, Chadbourne Residential College (CRC) and the Pathways to Excellence Project ( While retaining many of the strategic oversight responsibilities of the Pathways position below, this new position also included broad responsibility for academic programming in a 700-student residential college as well as responsibility for making discretionary decisions regarding the interpretation and implementation of College policy. Specific duties included: From July-December 2000, served simultaneously as dean and acting Faculty Director served as a core member of the CRC leadership team, working especially closely with the CRC Faculty Director oversaw/coordinated course scheduling and academic programming for CRC counseled students on personal and academic matters represented the residential college on university committees and at admissions and recruiting functions provided training and orientation for faculty/staff participating in the life of CRC designed and implemented an alumni outreach project for CRC Quimby vita, p. 2

3 University of Wisconsin-Madison, Associate Director, The Pathways to Excellence Project The Pathways to Excellence Project is a set of campus-wide initiatives designed to improve the quality of undergraduate education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The Associate Director had general responsibility for strategic planning, financial management, and oversight of the Project. Specific duties included: Working with undergraduates in, and providing academic program support for, a Residential college; Planning and implementing all phases of a major development campaign, including designing fundraising brochures; Planning and coordinating semi-annual meetings of the Project s alumni advisory committee; Overseeing the Pathways Project budget and the distribution of funds to Pathways-related programs; Running the UW-Madison Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa; And advising a campus-wide student organization Colby-Sawyer College, New London, New Hampshire, Assistant Director of Admissions ( Hired to assist this women s college in recruiting its first co-educational class. Responsibilities included: Traveling extensively to recruit students and meet with alumni; Interviewing prospective students; Making decisions on whether to admit applicants; Developing and implementing a program for international student recruitment and advising; and Serving as an academic advisor for enrolled students.
