Energie in perspectief 2
We use a lot of energy 1973-2012: 1,7% 2000-2012: 2,2% Global energy (2012) 9000 moe Electricity 1.600 mtoe = 21.000 TWh Netherlands (2012) 100 moe Electricity NL 115 TWh Source: IEA key world energy statistics 2013 3
price range Oil shortage is NOT the problem!! Source: IEA 2008 4
CO 2 emission (rising temperatures) is the problem 5
How do we use it? Total energy usage is 5x electricity use Electricity generated mostly by coal, gas, biomass, Roughly 1 / 3 rd of energy is used for transport Mostly based on refining of oil Large scale uptake of EV (electric vehicles) will result in significant increase in electricity usage 6
Renewable electricity: solar panels Yield: 130 kwh /yr /m² Typical Dutch household: 3300 kwh/yr 25 m² / HH (15 panels), 6000 Total 200 km² for HH (=6% of built area) 900 km² for all Dutch electricity (200 bln ) 160,000 km² for global electricity consumption (4x area of the Netherlands)... or 80 full sea containers of coal per minute
Renewable electricity: wind turbines Yield: 18-26 kwh /yr /m 2 Netherlands total 115 TWh 7000 km² Offshore installed: 41 km²
Where are we going? The future of energy is impossible to predict, however some ingredients are clear: Electric vehicles will become more important (but never 100%) Installation of solar panels will continue to grow Energy efficiency (in all aspects) will improve Energy neutral buildings / neighbourhoods will arise We will need more energy storage (electricity & heat) Electricity surplus can be used to create synthetic fuels 9
De energie infrastructuur gaat veranderen From central production, To local for local local consumption + central feed in + storage 10
Change requires installations Multifunctionele Bouwdelen Duurzame Compacte Conversie-technologie Regeling en control Compacte opslag Opwekking en opslag op gebiedsniveau 11
