Classification: Open 3 environment, the expected outcomes and how they are to be delivered. Requirements are elicited across the clients business and Corporate Leadership to develop the initial scope. The scope of the solution and expected business benefits/outcomes are agreed documented and communicated to all parties. Detailed discovery analysis of all elements of the infrastructure that are within project scope is undertaken. Impact analysis is also undertaken to ensure limited impact on business operation. This may include any impact analysis of any 3rd party processes involved. Any client ICT strategy will be used to underpin the solution if required and if possible a rationalisation of processes is undertaken to complement the final solution within the ICT framework. A final analysis report will be presented in an open interactive format to review and agree recommendations and to ensure they are fully understood by both parties. This will finalise the agreed risks, scope and other further actions. This process will be an iterative process. A detailed proposal in the form of a PID is produced identifying timescales, costs, resources, risks, mitigations, and obligations on MDS and the client. Upon customer acceptance, the work will then be delivered against that PID. Project Delivery Experience MDS Staff have successfully delivered the following types of projects and engagements for a range of public sector customers: Cloud infrastructure hosting design: working with customers and application development partners to design and document secure and resilient cloud-based hosting environments. Migration of applications and services to the Cloud: defining and delivering detailed plans to migrate applications and services from existing physical or private cloud environments onto assured cloud platforms, as illustrated in Figure 3 Major data centre migrations: designing and undertaking major lift and shift or over the wire migrations to a replacement hosted private cloud environment (this is often undertaken as an interim step to full cloud migration). We work with Technimove, a specialist server and IT relocation company, to ensure that your equipment is safely and securely relocated and any old hardware is recycled using secure and environmentally sound methods. Virtualisation/Cloud platform sizing: assessing existing infrastructure estates for suitability for virtualisation and/or cloud platforming and providing detailed sizing and costing information (this is often undertaken as part of a wider cloud design or migration engagement). Cloud platform Implementation: implementation of greenfield cloud platforms to support new applications and services. Provision of hybrid or private cloud platforms: delivery and management of physical hosting environments, where these are required as an interim stage prior to full cloud migration or alongside a true cloud platform, where this is required to address physical or licensing limitations. Information Assurance Figure 3 - Cloud Transition Plan MDS staff are experienced in handling data at all Impact Levels and provide advice and guidance to customers on how IA needs to be factored in to cloud infrastructure designs. MDS supports a number of existing customers hosting data up to IL3 and is certified against ISO27001.
