RAILPORT Scandinavia RAILPORT Scandinavia is a comprehensive railway link network to and from the, with a large number of cargo terminals in Sweden and Norway. Thanks to these rail shuttles etremely large quantities of goods can quickly and efficiently reach the port s various customers. What is more, the use of rail shuttles means there is a smaller environmental footprint. Development of the system is taking place in close cooperation with railway operators, terminal operators and the relevant municipalities. RAILPORT TERMINAL The terminals serviced by the rail shuttles stretch from Sundsvall in the north to Helsingborg in the south, and there are also shuttles to Oslo in Norway. In order to provide a clear overview of the services that each terminal can offer, the is currently classifying the various terminals. This classification or rating takes place in accordance with four criteria: Geographic location, range of services on offer, safety, and the condition of the area/premises. The range of services is assessed on a variety of parameters, including the availability of facilities for cleaning and inspection of containers, the availability of refrigerated container connections, the provision of bonded warehouse requirements, ability to handle hazardous cargo, availability of a depot for empty containers, and ISO classification. Rail Volume Development The railway is for our customers an increasingly important link in the transport chain. Since 2002 alone, rail transports to and from the have increased RAIL VOLUMES PORT OF (TEU) 143 767 170 007 189 453 224 334 279 978 322 210 from 6 to 24 daily shuttles. About half of the container transports now go to and from the port by rail*. 342 000 366 350 370 720 374 000 410 949 RAILPORT INTERMODAL TRAFFIC The has the best conditions in Sweden for rail traffic and a highly efficient on-dock rail terminal for rapid transshipping. Sweden s most important consumption and production centres are served every day by more than 70 trains. 24 daily rail shuttles link the most interesting junctions in Scandinavia to the port and more are on the way. 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 *Note: Total Volume 900 000 TEU 2012. 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 RAILPORT CONVENTIONAL TRAFFIC In addition to rail shuttles, customer adapted whole train systems contribute further both to improved service and reduced environmental impact. Customer adapted whole train systems arriving to the are an important cog in our vision of efficient, sustainable transports. Steel, paper, oil, cars or consumables there are many good eamples and each solution is entirely tailored to our customers needs. All to generate competitive, environmentally friendly transport solutions to and from Scandinavia s largest port, the natural goods hub in northern Europe. Rail shuttles reduce environmental impact Moving goods from lorries to trains has significant environmental benefits. Each year, our daily rail shuttles save 60 000 tons of carbon dioide emissions. That would equal the emissions from 23 000 passenger cars during one year. See reduced environmental impact per destination on page 9. rail system Railport terminals Port terminals Daily trains besides the Rail Shuttle System Our rail shuttle system is based on well-developed cooperation between the, the RAILPORT terminals, several rail operators, goods owners and the National Rail Administration. This cooperation means that we can link together the logistics of sea and land efficiently and environmentally soundly. Below and on the following pages you will find more detailed information on our current shuttle routes and the operators we cooperate with. The has company specific rail solutions, but the purpose of the shuttles is to attract unitised flows from cargo intense regions by offering a standardised solution for the inland transit. Replacing trucks with trains for cargo transport has significant environmental benefits. In the table below we have compared the carbon dioide emissions of transporting one FEU (forty-foot equivalent unit) from the Port of Gothenburg to the RAILPORT terminals in the rail system. Rating Rail shuttle operators The currently has 24 terminals and 24 shuttles and the port is now reinforcing this network by highlighting the significance of the terminals to logistics flows. This is achieved by using a rating system, on a five-point scale. Making it possible to measure and evaluate operations in the terminal. The principle is the same as awarding hotel stars. The number of stars tells you what you can epect. Four parameters are used in the rating system: conditons and geographical location, range of services, safety and security and physical layout. In the long term the aim is for the terminals to provide the same level of service as the.
