Term 1 Week 3 Livingstone Street, Belmont NSW 2280 Ph 4945 4858 Fax 4947 7823 belmont-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au www.belmont-p.schools.nsw.edu.au/ Dear Parents/Caregivers, Evacuation Thank you for your support last week when we received a threat. As you may be aware there have been numerous hoax bomb threats to schools across Australia since the beginning of the school year. It is believed that the computerised threats are originating from outside Australia, in every case the threat has been designed to cause disruption and there has been no danger to students or staff. I would seek to reassure you that our school has a detailed emergency management plan that the students and staff are aware off and practise evacuations and lockdowns as recommended. Last week when we received a threat we immediately evacuated (staff and students) and the NSW Police came promptly to investigate. Thank you for supporting the school and for not contacting or attending the school during this period. As you can imagine this can interfere with our capacity to manage the event. The school will always seek to keep parents informed whilst prioritising student and staff safety. Our school will continue to use school app and P&C Facebook page as well as sending notes home to keep you informed. Bikes scooters Please ensure that if your child rides a bike or scooter to school that they place it in the bike racks provided near the front office. Toddlers and other siblings are not permitted to bring in bikes, scooters, skateboards etc as these items can be a safety issue. Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us to ensure the safety of all students. Parent Information Sessions: Our Parent Information Sessions will be on Tuesday 16 th Feb. Your child s teacher will be able to share important information about your child s learning, subjects and units that will be taught, homework, planned excursions etc. Stage 1 classes: 3:30 4:15 pm Stage 2 classes: 4:30 5:15 pm Stage 3 classes: 5:30 6:15 pm Swimming carnival Tomorrow is our swimming carnival. We will be departing school at 9:20am and the carnival will commence at 10am and will be finished by 1:30pm. Students need to have swimmers, towel, hat, sun-cream, lunch and sensible clothing and shoes. Please pack your lunch as the canteen will only be available at the pool for snacks.

Canteen Our canteen needs your help to stay open 5 days a week. We have no new volunteers this year which means that we will have to close on the days that we don t have any volunteers. If you are able to help out for a few hours once or twice a term please see the office. Classes We formed our 2016 classes last Wednesday afternoon. Thank you to the students for making this transition so smooth. We are very excited to have 11 classes again this year. Our 11 new students have been made to feel very welcome. Our classes are as follows Kindy Bees: Mrs Erin Blishen Kindy Meerkats: Miss Ashleigh McNamara 1K: Mrs Irene Kuba 1/2M: Miss Amber Molloy 2E: Miss Bridget Edwards 3/4K: Miss Kate Melmeth & Miss Ellen Harris 3/4M: Mr Luke McIlvenie 3/4W: Mrs Louise Williams 5/6L: Mr Mitch Lobston 5/6M: Miss Aleisha Montgomery 5/6Y: Miss Natalie Young Bandicoots Our support class started last week. This class is called the Bandicoots and Miss Gabby Bertoss is their teacher. Mrs Jo Lovett is the teacher s aide in this class. Welcome to the new families and students in this class. The Bandicoot class has made a great start to the school year - we are settling into our new school and following new routines, and trying our best at all times. We currently have three students, who require additional assistance. In order to ensure the safety of students and staff in the class, there is currently a temporary fence around the classroom, and in time, this will be a permanent fixture to the learning space. We are proud to be a part of Belmont Public School, and look forward to a busy year ahead learning and having fun. Miss Bertoss & Mrs Lovett Bandicoot Class Teachers Scripture Scripture starts next week. Please advise your child s class teacher if your child won t be participating. Students who don t do scripture will read books silently during this 30 minute period. Home Reading Your child will be bringing home a new home reading booklet this week. Children are encouraged to read each night. Each night they read can be recorded into their Home Reading Booklet. Please remember that you record each night they read not how many books they read in one night. For every 50 nights your child reads they will be rewarded with a certificate and a book at the whole school assemblies. Breakfast Club Breakfast club will start up again this Thursday from 8:45 9:10 am in G Block. We will be having breakfast club each Tuesday and Thursday morning for the rest of the term.
