More tha 100 years ago, Austria aeroautics had pioeered aviatio history: I 1909, Austria Igo Etrich developed the Etrich Taube, a mooplae aircraft that was the first military plae ever mass-produced i Austria ad Germay. This plae became famous durig World War I as the so called Ivisible Aircraft ad sometimes is also referred to as the world s first stealth plae. Throughout the past 100 years, busiess i aeroautics has chaged. All over the world, compaies ivolved i aeroautics gathered aroud the idustrial supply chais of the origial equipmet maufacturers, amog them a lot of Austria compaies. These compaies successfully adapted to the supply chais that have a strog orietatio towards exports ad iche products. Austria competeces i aeroautics lie i seve market segmets of which the biggest oes are complex aircraft structures ad compoets, iovative materials ad maufacturig techology, cabi iteriors ad equipmet ad aircraft electroics. At the begiig of the ew milleium, the Austria Federal Miistry for Trasport, Iovatio ad Techology (BMVIT) iitiated the Austria aeroautics research ad techology promotio programme called TAKE OFF i order to provide the most efficiet support to the Austria aeroautics (supply) idustries. The dyamic growth of aeroautics i Austria is a direct outcome of the developmet of the Austria aeroautics strategy for research, techology ad iovatio i 2007 i close cooperatio betwee govermet ad idustry. Based o log-term cosideratios, this strategy aims to stregthe the idustry ad to improve its competitiveess ad productivity by further developmet ad coordiatio of the sector. I 2009, the Austria Federal Miistry for Trasport, Iovatio ad Techology (BMVIT) commissioed a survey to acquire a database of all Austria compaies ivolved i aeroautics ad their competeces. 241 compaies were idetified, ad 87 of them voluteered to preset their competeces ad techologies i the brochure at had ad o the website www.aeroautics.at. Last but ot least, the Austria Federal Miistry for Trasport, Iovatio ad Techology ivites all Austria compaies, research orgaisatios ad competece cetres ivolved i aeroautics, which are ot yet listed i this brochure, to register ad preset themselves. AusTriA AeroAuTics idustry The Austria aeroautics idustry cosists of more tha 240 compaies, accordig to the study Austria Aeroautics Idustry: a Database of Market Participats. The study captures the whole value chai for techology-based products ad services. The data was collected i 2009. The followig mai results refer to the 132 compaies that participated i the survey. Turover ad employees are projected for 241 compaies. The study was commissioed to BRIMATECH Services withi the Austria aeroautics programme TAKE OFF, ad fuded by the Austria Federal Miistry for Trasport, Iovatio ad Techology.
