The Sustainable Procurement Program

The ING Sustainable Procurement Program The ING Sustainable Procurement Program is made up of threephasesof integration: - Supplier qualification (IPSS); - Supplierperformance assessment (FIRA); - Andproduct/service assessment MVO product-specific criteria applied Phase 3 Supplier Sustainability Performance Assessments Phase 2 IPSS as minimum requirements Phase 1 10

Phase 1 solution: ING Procurement Sustainability Standards Minimum Requirements for Social and Evnironmental Responsibility 3rd Parties In 2012, the ING Procurement Sustainability Standards were approved by the Management Board of ING Bank. Within six weeks the IPSS were implemented in the Netherlands and within four months they were implemented globally. Phase 2 Solution: FIRA Sustainability FIRA is a sustainability performance assessment tool for 3 rd parties. It is a means for heightening transparency in our supplier base as it will make sustainability information of ING suppliers available. FIRA applies a methodology based on ISO26000 and GRI standards and assumes an engagement-centered approachto suppliers. The FIRA platform will provide ING with the opportunity to connect with sustainable suppliers through FIRA s database of assessed suppliers. FIRA will provide verification services for assurance of suppliers sustainability commitments and claims. Phase 3 Solution: Circular Purchasing From product criteria to circular purchasing Stepping away from Linear to Circular Purchasing - Results-based contracts - C2C products - Renting/leasing vs. Owning - Minimum 2 projectsin 2014 Green Deal "Our global economy is driven by taking material out of the ground, making something out of them, and ultimately they get thrown away. FIRA Implementation Two-tiered approach: Current and New Suppliers ING asks suppliers to be accountable for their sustainability commitments Scope: Procurement managed and contracted suppliers with an annual spend > 50K Current Suppliers Onboarding Approach: Suppliers are selected by the business in waves based on priority level and invited to introduction meetings. New/Renewed Supplier Relationships Scope: All new/renewed suppliers with annual spend > 50K Onboarding Approach: FIRA is applied to the RfPprocess and the contracted supplier will be required to become a Bronze-level assessed member within 3 months of the contract signing. 14

Via transparency anddialogue, FIRA points ING to suppliers whom we can partner with to achieve new best practices and sustainable solutions to drive progress in ING and society. 16

Challenges Challenges: A lack of transparency due to scattered and high-level data ING unable to locate suppliers with ideas or solutions that can help us achieve our goals A what s in it for us mentality among suppliers Supplier skepticism shaped by past experiences A fear of transparency anything but an audit! FIRA has supported ING by making suppliers sustainability data more accessible to our buyers. We have been connecting with suppliers under the banner of sustainability via FIRA on an increasingly frequent basis. 17
