MONDAY CATHEDRAL ORGAN CONCERTS IN THE BASILICA - this is the only concert series which features the largest Angster organ in Budapest with the most beautiful tone - Concert Calendar 2012 These concerts present the most beautiful works of Albinoni, Bach, Pergolesi, Mozart, Gounod and Franz Liszt. You can view the detailed programme adjusted to the topics of the ecclesiastical year on the right side of the site. Concerts start on Mondays at 5 o' clock in the afternoon and are 45 minutes long. The entry fee for these events is 3000 HUF, students and pensioners must pay 2500 HUF. Discounts are given to groups of visitors.

Performers András Gábor Virágh was born in 1984 in Budapest. He started to study music at the Váci Mihály Primary School of Music in Szombathely, where, besides the complex musical training, he also started to play the piano, as a student of József Benkõ. From 1994 he continued his studies in Budapest, he studied music theory from László Kéringer, piano from Krisztina Deli, and from 1997 he learned the basics of organ playing from his grandfather, Endre Virágh. From 1998 he continued his organ studies with his father, András Virágh and he also started to learn Composition from István Koloss, organist of the Saint Steven Basilica in Budapest. From the Autumn of 1998 until 2004 he was the organist of the Virgin Mary Main Parish Church in the city centre of Budapest. In 1999 he was admitted to the Béla Bartók Secondary School of Music, where his organ teacher was Zsuzsa Elekes and his composition teacher was István Fekete Gyõr. From September 2003 he was a student of Peter Planyavsky (organist of the Stephansdom in Vienna). In March 2004 at the contemporary music festival in Eschweiler, Germany, he performed successfully both as a composer and as a performing artist. As a consequence of the first performance he was formally asked to compose several pieces, such as the Sonata for Flute and Piano, the O Salutaris Hostia for mixed choir and, during the summer of 2004, he had the opportunity to work with József Ács, pianist and composer. In 2004 after the successful entrance exams he started to major in organ playing at the Conservatory of the University of Debrecen where his professors are Dezsõ Karasszon, DLA, Szilárd Kovács and Hedvig Jakab, DLA. In May 2005 he was invited to occupy the post of organist and accompanist of the Kántus (mixed youth choir) of the Reformed College of Debrecen by their teacher and conductor, Sándor Berkesi. Since September 2005 he has also been majoring in composition at the Ferenc Liszt University of Music, where his professor is Gyula Fekete. In October 2005 he gave a celebratory organ recital in the Cathedral of Nantes. Outside Hungary he performed both as a composer and as a performing artist in Austria, Czech Republic, France, Holland, Germany, Romania, Switzerland, Serbia-Montenegro, Slovakia, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. Performers Zsuzsanna Gion started her musical studies at the age of seven in Weiner Leó Music School, in Budapest. After her high school years, she studied at the Faculty of Music at Berzsenyi Dániel College in Szombathely and earned a degree in Music and Church Music. During her college years, she was a regular performer at the concert series of the Faculty of Music called Hangmûhely. In 2005, she received a special award at the private singing competition of the Art Section of the National Scientific Student Conference for the outstanding interpretation of contemporary music. Since then, she has debuted as a solo singer at a number of oratorical concerts, and she has become a regular solo singer at organ concerts. She took part in the Art Days of Bükk and in the Master Courses of Walter Moore. She has been a permanent singer at the organ concerts of the Saint Stephen Basilica in Budapest since the summer of 2009. Currently, she studies at the Vienna Conservatory of Music at the Faculty of Solo singing, and is a solo singer at the Choir of the Downtown Parish Church in Budapest. Performers She was born in Budapest. After graduating from the Budapest Music High School she went on studying at the Ferenc Liszt Music Academy and graduated from there as a soloist in 1986. She got an engagement from Germany in 1987 and since she has sung more than 100 times the Queen of the Night's part from Mozart's opera, the Magic Flute in several German theatres. She has been a permanent guest artist of the Szekszárd German Theatre and also took part in a Magic Flute performance of the Miskolc National Theatre. More than once she performed as a guest singer in the Hungarian State Opera House and she regularly performs in the National Philharmony's concerts. Performers Krisztina Koloss - cello She was born in 1975 in Budapest. Her father is István Koloss organist - composer, the senior organist of the Budapest St. Stephan Basilica. She started her cello studies at the age of five in the class of Ferenc Balla. When she was nine, she got second price at the Antal Friss National Cello Competition. In 1991, she got into the Leo Weiner Conservatory of Music, her teacher was Mr. Balla continuously. She started studies at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in 1995, in prof. Istvan Csurgay's class. In 1997, prof. Mag. Stefan Kropfitsch invited her to the Joesph Haydn College, so she studied in Austria until 1999. She got her degree wiht excellence in 2001 at the Music Academy in Budapest. Until this tume she participated Cs. Onczay's and M. Rostropovich's master classes and had tours with orchestras around Europe. She played in the Old Buda Danubia Symphonic Orchestra, Dohnanyi Symphonic Orchestra, the Wiennese Pro Arte Orchestra, the Wiener Jeunesse Orchestra, after, from 1999 played in the Budapest Strauss Orchestra and T-Com Symphonic Orchestra. She gets very successfull performances with her father regularly, among others in Genf, Stuttgart, Wien and of course in Budapest. Besides Europe she visited many countries with her cello, for example Switzerland, Russia, Mexico and the United Arab Emirates. She works with Edvin Marton violinist. Until 2007, she played in three studio albums of him. Beyond her classical art, she is well-known perticipant of the hungarian pop music life: she plays in the Monte Carlo Orchestra and the public can hear her playing on the reconrings of Csilla Auth, Balazs Havasi and the Bon-Bon Group.
