Applicants apply to a study programme. In case of being interested in several study programmes, it is necessary to apply to each study programme separately. Language skills - written and oral command of Slovak or Czech. In order to study at the Faculty (including the possibility of completing a part of studies during subsequent years of studies abroad), the applicants are required to have knowledge of at least one foreign language on a B1 level. Clean bill of health - in case of all teaching study programmes and in the study programmes of Social Pedagogy and Mission Work with Children and Young People the application form has to be confirmed by a doctor on applicant s clean bill of health on his/her ability to study at university and practice profession in a chosen study programme. As far as the other study programmes are concerned, the Faculty does not require a clean bill of health confirming the ability to study at university and accepts applications without it. REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION AND THE FORM OF ADMISSION PROCEDURE TO BACHELOR'S STUDY The basic requirement for admission to Bachelor s Degree programme (first degree study programme) is the completion of secondary education or a complete secondary vocational education (Law No. 131/2002 Coll. on universities). FURTHER REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION TO BACHELOR'S STUDY AT THE FACULTY OF HUMANITIES, UNIVERSITY OF ŽILINA IN ŽILINA FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2015/2016 In accordance with 57 of Law no. 131/2002 Coll., the admission process to Bachelor s Degree study programmes at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Žilina in Žilina for the academic year 2015/ 2016 will be guided by the following principles: SOCIAL PEDAGOGY (full time and part-time forms of study): Applicants who meet the requirements stated in Law on universities for the admission to the first degree of university education shall be admitted on the basis of entrance examinations. The entrance examinations will take the form of the knowledge test. There will be a test in the general overview of social studies/civics in the scope of the curriculum for grammar schools. Grammar school graduates who graduated in the subject of social studies and their average value in this subject in the annual school report at the secondary school leaving examination ( maturita ) is not worse than 1.25 will not be required to sit for the test in the general overview of social studies. Graduates from social and pedagogical academies whose average value of education in the subject of pedagogy in annual school reports and from the theoretical part of the special component of the secondary school leaving examination ( maturita ) is not worse than 1.5 will not be required to sit for the test in the general overview of social studies. All applicants for the part-time form of study will be required to sit for the entrance examination. MEDIAMATICS AND CULTURAL HERITAGE (full time and part-time forms of study): The entrance examination will consist of two tests - the test of personality attributes makes up 2/3 and the knowledge test makes up 1/3. At the same time, the participation and position in national and international competitions, or other relevant achievements and awards and other out-of-school activities in the field related to the study programme will be taken into consideration (maximum 10% of the total score from the entrance examination). Test of personality attributes allowing the differentiation of risks and the multidimensional performance capabilities of cognitive strategies as a necessary precondition for the completion of Bachelor s Degree programme of study (note: the test of the entrance examination will be provided by an external company). Knowledge test within the scope of secondary curriculum in the following subjects - Slovak language and literature, Social studies/ Civics and Informatics. TEACHER TRAINING STUDY PROGRAMMES (only full time form of study) Applicants for the study shall be admitted without entrance examinations on the basis of the following criteria: In combination with English Language - The results of a comprehensive study at secondary school and the secondary school-leaving examination (maturita) results. - There will be a preference for those applicants who demonstrated mastering of the external part of the secondary school examination (at Level B2 to 60% and at Level B1 to 75%). - study results at secondary school with the focus on subjects that the applicant intends to study, the results in the subjects that form the basis of the selected study programmes, participation, respectively results at Olympiad, secondary - school professional activity. - State examinations and certificates of foreign languages, etc. - In case of equal points, it is overall grade average that is the decisive factor. 3

4 In combination with Citizenship Education - The results of a comprehensive study at secondary schools and the secondary school-leaving examination (maturita) results - There will be a preference for those applicants who took their secondary school leaving examination (maturita) in social studies / civics - Participation, respectively results at the Olympiad, secondary-school professional activity - national and international stages - In case of equal points, it is overall grade average that is the decisive factor In combination with Religious Education - The results of a comprehensive study at secondary school and the school-leaving examination (maturita) results - There will be a preference for those applicants who took their secondary school leaving examination (maturita) in social studies / civics - Participation, respectively results at the Olympiad, secondary - school professional activity - national and international stages - In case of equal points, it is overall grade average that is the decisive factor In combination with Mathematics - The results of a comprehensive study at secondary school and the school-leaving examination (maturita) results - secondary school leaving examination in mathematics - Successful investigators of regional or national stages of Olympiad in mathematics in the A or B categories. - Participation, respectively results at Olympiad, secondary - school professional activity - national and international stages, participation in other mathematical competitions - In case of equal points, it is overall grade average that is the decisive factor In combination with Musical Arts - The results of a comprehensive study at secondary school and the secondary school - leaving examination (maturita) results. Aptitude test: a) The review of intonation and auditory skills of the applicant: Repetition of the presented tones, melodic passages, rhythmic instances Vocal presentation of a folk song b) playing a musical instrument or vocals (according to the selected study programme of the applicant) Requirements: b) Playing a musical instruments (keyboards, stringed instruments, woodwind instruments, brass instruments, melodic percussions) one or more compositions from the period of Romanticism or from the 20th century (a minimum of five minutes in total). The level of a graduate from an elementary art school is required. Performing music from memory is essential. Applicants can provide their own piano accompaniment, if necessary. Applicants for studies of other musical instruments than the piano will provide their own instruments. Vocals: Ten songs on the basis of the applicant s choice The level of a graduate from an elementary art school is required. Performing vocals from memory is a necessary precondition. Applicants can provide their own accompaniment instrument (piano, guitar). - Participation, respectively results at Olympiad, secondary - school professional activity - national and international stages, participation in a variety of other musical competitions, - In case of equal points, it is overall grade average that is the decisive factor 4

5 TEACHING OF SUBJECTS TEACHING OF MUSICAL ARTS (only full time form of study) Requirements for the aptitude tests of teaching of musical arts: Piano: The first part of sonata cycle in sonata form from the Classical period A representative composition from the period of Romanticism, or from the 20th century The level of conservatory graduates conservatory is required. Performing music from memory is an essential precondition. The applicant is also expected to submit (in writing) a list of repertoire which they studied at earlier stages of arts education. Vocals: one folk song in the arrangements of a composer one made - up song one aria from the Baroque period, Classicism, Romanticism or from the 20th century. The level of conservatory graduates is required. Vocals with piano accompaniment (performed from memory) are an essential precondition. If necessary, the applicants will provide piano accompaniment. The applicant is also expected to submit (in writing) a list of repertoire which they studied at earlier stages of arts education and a verification from a phoniatrist. Organ: A quick part from the trio sonatas by J.S. Bach chorale trio of an average difficulty (the first or the third part) A prelude and fugue by J.S. Bach or other cyclic form - fantasy and fugue, toccata and fugue One composition from the period of Romanticism or from the 20th and the 21st century. The level of graduates of conservatory is required. The applicant is also expected to submit (in writing) a list of repertoire which they studied at earlier stages of arts education. Applicants will perform the aptitude test on digital instruments of the Ahlborn series. If necessary, an assistant organist can be provided for. Guitar: one étude on the basis of the applicant s choice (F. Sor, M. Giuliani, Carcassi M., H. Villa-Lobos, L. Brouwer) one composition from the Renaissance or Baroque style on the basis of the applicant s choice one composition piece on the basis of the applicant s choice Flute: one étude according to the technical sophistication of the applicant (/ recommended literature: W. Popp - Etudes for Flute op Vol. 1, E. Köhler Etudy pre flautu, op. 33- Vol. 1, 2. E. Köhler Virtuózne etudy, Vol. 1, 2. one recital - the whole sonata, concert, a composition for a solo instrument of various styles (the Baroque period - music of the 20 th century); on the basis of the applicant s choice. Accordion: A repertoire according to the student s own choice ranging from 10 to 15 minutes. It is obligatory that the repertoire consists of original works composed for the accordion. Violin: 1st part Bach s sonatas and partites 2nd part a concert according to the student s own choice MISSIONARY WORK WITH CHILDREN AND YOUTH (full-time and part-time forms of study): A general knowledge test from the field of religion (on the basis of the assigned study material) and social overview. Secondary school graduates who took their A levels from religion and the average reached from this subject on the annual reports and at A levels is not worse than 1,5 are not obliged to take the test of religion general knowledge and social overview. Applicants of the part-time form of study are not obliged to take an entrance examination. 5

6 REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION AND THE FORM OF ADMISSIONS PROCESS FOR MASTER S STUDY The primary condition of admission in the case of the 2 nd grade of study (Mgr.) is the graduation in the 1st or 2 nd grade of university study in accordance with Article 56 Section 2 of Law Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education. Other requirements for admission process for Master s study at The Faculty of Humanities University of Žilina in Žilina for the academic year 2015/2016. Another condition of admission for the study of Master s study programmes (2nd grade study programmes) at FH UŽ in Žilina for the academic year 2015/2016 is the graduation of the study programme of the 1st grade (Bc.) in the same or related study programme. In accordance with Article 57 of Law Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education the admission process to Master s study programmes at FH UŽ in Žilina for the academic year 2015/2016 will follow these principles: APPLIED MATHEMATICS (only full-time form) Applicants who fulfil basic requirements according to Law Act on Higher Education can apply for the university studies of the 2nd grade; that is they graduated the Bachelor s study programme in the field of applied mathematics or related study programme. The entrance examination has two parts: - a test of creativity in order to verify the applicant s ability to complete the master s study programme; - a debate on the applicant s Bachelor thesis. Other admission criteria include complex study results in the Bachelor s study programme, results of the state examinations and appraisal of affinity of the graduated study programme with the Master s study programme in which the applicant is interested in. Additional evaluation and comparison criteria are also: participation and position at ŠVOČ, or other relevant successes and awards and extra-curriculum activities in the field of mathematics. MEDIAMATICS AND CULTURAL HERITAGE (full-time and part-time forms of studies): The condition of admission for the 2nd grade of study (Mgr.) is the graduation in 1st grade of study in the same or related study programme. The entrance examination: - the test that allows the differentiation of personal predispositions, risks and cognitive strategies as a needed presupposition to complete the Master s grade of the study programme. (Note: The entrance examination will be provided by the third party company.) Additional evaluation and comparison criteria are also: - participation and position at ŠVOČ, or other relevant successes and awards and extra-curriculum activities in the field of mediamatics and cultural heritage (max. 10% out of the total points obtained at the entrance examination). - Graduates in the study programme Mediamatics, Documentation of Cultural Heritage and Mediamatics and Cultural Heritage at FH UŽ with the study average not higher than 1,25 (including final state examination) in the 1st grade of study are not obliged to take the entrance examination. Graduates in the study programme Mediamatics, Documentation of Cultural Heritage and Mediamatics and Cultural Heritage at FH UŽ will obtain for the records in the 1 st grade of studies points evaluation corresponding to their study mean in the 1 st grade of studies (including final state examination) (max. 20% out of the total points obtained at the entrance ) REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION AND THE FORM OF ADMISSIONS PROCESS FOR DOCTORAL STUDIES The primary condition of admission in the case of the doctoral study (study programme of the 3 rd grade) is the graduation in the 2nd grade of study in accordance with Article 56 Section 3 of Law Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education. Other requirements for admission process for doctoral study at The Faculty of Humanities, University of Žilina in Žilina for the academic year 2015/2016. Another condition of admission for the study of doctoral study programmes (3rd grade study programmes) at FHV ŽU in Žilina for the academic year 2015/2016 is the graduation of the study programme of the 2nd grade (Mgr.) in the same or related study programme. In accordance with Article 57 of Law Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education, the admission process to doctoral study programmes at FH UŽ in Žilina for the academic year 2015/2016 will follow these principles: 6

7 APPLIED MATHEMATICS (full-time and part-time forms of study) Applicants who fulfil basic requirements according to Law Act on Higher Education can apply for the university studies of the 3rd grade; that is they graduated the Master s study programme in the field of applied mathematics or related study programme. The entrance examination has three parts: - a test which verifies the applicant s knowledge from fields of mathematics of Master s degree; - a test which verifies the applicant s knowledge from the English language; - a debate on the applicant s project of dissertation thesis. It is possible for the applicant to obtain 20 points for each part of the entrance examination. Other admission criteria include complex results of study in the Master s study programme and the results of the state examination; the appraisal of affinity of the graduated Master s study programme with the doctoral study programme in which the applicant is interested in. Activities of the applicant connected with doctoral studies, such as participation and place at ŠVOČ, are taken into account as well. The applicants will receive detailed information on the content and course of entrance examination in their letters of invitation. MEDIAMATICS AND CULTURAL HERITAGE (full-time and part-time forms of study) The primary condition of admission to the study programme of the 3 rd grade (PhD.) is the graduation in the 2nd grade of study in the same or related field. Entrance examination: professional debate, in which applicants have to show the qualifications for self-reliant scientific research activity and good orientation in the chosen field of study. The applicants will receive detailed information on the content and course of entrance examination in their letters of invitation. The detailed information on doctoral study at the University of Žilina in Žilina are to be found in Study Order for the 3rd grade of university study at the University of Žilina in Žilina. REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION AND THE FORM OF ADMISSIONS PROCESS FOR THE FURTHER STUDIES FOR TEACHERS: STUDIES OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE The applicants who document their knowledge by the state maturita examination certificate from the English language or a corresponding certificate (e.g. FCE certificate, state language examination, etc.) are enrolled without entrance examinations. The admission of other applicants is conditioned by a successful completion of an entrance placement test (applicants demonstrate their language knowledge min. on the B1 level). Accommodation of students: accommodation is provided by the University of Žilina in Žilina Accommodation fee: 42,00 51,00- /month Catering: student s canteen of the University of Žilina in Žilina Charge: 1,62 and more/meal Admission of international students: International applicants are accepted based on interstate agreements, or if they study in other than the state language, they are supposed to cover tuition according to the conditions stated in 92, the subsection 9 of Law on Higher Education Institutions. Tuition of international students is specified in the University directive and displayed for the given academic year on the website of the University. Applicants without any knowledge of the Slovak or Czech language have to go through language preparatory classes successfully (they are also available at the University of Žilina in Žilina). Applicants from the Czech Republic could fill in the application form used in the Czech Republic. GRADUATES CAREER PROSPECTS Bachelor study programmes In the Two Subject Bachelor Studies of academic, educational and art-educational subject teacher training focused on the preparation for teaching professions; graduates are trained primarily for the purposes of the studies at Master s Degree (equivalent to Master s Degree). In rare cases, they can work as assistant teachers. Graduates from the study programme Teaching of Musical Art in the Combination of Subjects are at the same time trained to be qualified as animators of leisure time or as cultural workers. Graduates of the Bachelor s degree study programme Educational and Art-Educational Subject Teacher Training - Teaching of Musical Arts are able to work as assistant teachers, assistant teachers of professional subjects at elementary art schools specialized in professional teaching of playing musical instruments, singing, ensemble playing, choir singing, and so on, or as assistant teachers, assistant teachers of professional subjects at elementary schools, or as cultural workers 8

9 animators of leisure time, etc. They also have widespread scope of employability in various alternative artistic and educational facilities with special focus on music-organizational and artistic needs in municipal, urban and regional cultural life. Graduates of the Bachelor s degree of Mediamatics and Cultural Heritage are able to work in a wide range of corporate practice, in research, in advertising agencies, in libraries and archives. Graduates of the Bachelor s degree of Social Pedagogy are prepared for the work in the area of state and public administration. Graduates of the Bachelor s degree study programme Mission Work with Children and Youth are able to work as leisure time animators in church institutions, state and non-state institutions or in the congregations. Master s study programmes Graduates of the Master s study programme Mediamatics and Cultural Heritage are able to find modern solutions as well as solutions of their own from the area of library and information practice. They are able to creatively apply knowledge mainly in the field of library and information funds, and in local and global information resources. The graduates master the work with information and communication technologies, with methods and tools for creation and building of information sources, for the analysis of information needs, information retrieval, analysis of sources of information and for providing information and knowledge to users. They are able to work as content makers, or as managers of mediamatic information systems, as consultants in the field of information systems, or as course - makers for e-learning. In addition, they are able to work as managers of information and knowledge databases in business organizations. After graduation, they can independently run a business in the sphere of mass-media, provide information services for government, for third sector or to work as specialists for the creation and presentation of information, economics and management of mediamatic systems. Graduates of the Master s study programme Applied Mathematics are able to find work as professionals in research teams, financial institutes and at the same time they can work as managers in companies. Doctoral study programmes Graduates of the doctoral study programme Applied Mathematics have highly developed their abstract thinking on the basis of their thorough completion of basic mathematical disciplines, research methods and profound theoretical knowledge in some specific area of mathematics. They are able to acquire new pieces of knowledge in the area of mathematical theory, mathematical modelling and consequently in the area of applying the acquired knowledge in other scientific fields. Graduates are able to find work in research institutes, as mathematicians-analysts in financial and other institutions, as university pedagogues, etc. depending on their more specific study specialization and the focus of their thesis. Graduates of the doctoral study programme Mediamatics and Cultural Heritage have highly developed their abstract thinking on the basis of their thorough completion of basic disciplines of library-information science research methods and profound theoretical knowledge in some specific area of Mediamatics and cultural heritage. They are able to work creatively in the area of Mediamatics and cultural heritage and to apply acquired knowledge in other scientific fields. Graduates are able to find work in research in the area of library-information science, as experts in cultural and memory institutions, as university pedagogues, etc. depending on their more specific study specialization and the focus of their thesis.
