SigalPath 201 (SP201 ) Istallatio Guide Versio C, July 2004 Part Number 15469.1000 SigalPath Software Versio 1100 This Istallatio Guide presets a quick, stadard istallatio of the SP201. Note: The eeds of your etwork may require a istallatio that varies from the stadard istallatio. For a customized istallatio, see the SP201 Customizatio ad Maiteace Guide. For hardware iformatio, see the SP201 Hardware Referece Guide. The SP201 ca support up to four truk circuits. Each truk circuit carries up to 30 chael circuits. Note: A stadard truk circuit (from oe exteral device, through the SP201, to aother exteral device) comprises truk coectios to two ports. The SigalPath cofiguratio software defies each side of the truk circuit (that is, each coectio to a port) as a truk. This documet uses the term truk to idicate a coectio to oe port; it uses the term truk circuit to idicate the complete ed-to-ed coectio (over two ports). Usig these defiitios, a truk circuit comprises two truks. Before you start this istallatio, be sure you have filled out the worksheet for addig this device to your etwork. See the SP201 Site Plaig Worksheet. See the followig sectios for a stadard istallatio of the SP201: Sectio A, Physical Istallatio Sectio B, Clockig Cofiguratio Sectio C, Truk Cofiguratio Sectio D, Chael Cofiguratio Sectio E, SP201 Warmstart Figure 1. SP201 Chassis

2 SP201 Istallatio Guide Note: The cables you coect to the SP201 deped o the protocols. The followig table lists the ports ad lie each protocol uses i this guide s stadard istallatio. Use the four holes o the frot flage of the SP201to mout the chassis i a 19-ich equipmet rack. 2. Coect cables to the ports o the rear of the SP201 chassis, as follows: a For CAS truks (DTMF, R1, R2, or N5), do oe of the followig: For DTMF or R1, coect T1 cables to the RJ48C ports labeled Truk 1 through Truk 4. or For R2 or N5, coect E1 cables to the RJ48C ports labeled Truk 1 through Truk 4. b For SS7 truks, determie whether the SP201 s other protocol is a CAS protocol (DTMF, R1, or R2) or a ISDN protocol (ETSI ISDN or ANSI NI1, NI2, or NI3 ISDN). The do oe of the followig: If the other protocol is a ISDN protocol, the SS7 truks are o ports 1 through 4. Do oe of the followig: - For ANSI SS7, coect T1 cables to the RJ48C ports labeled Truk 1 through Truk 4. or - For ITU C7, coect E1 cables to the RJ48C ports labeled Truk 1 through Truk 4. If the other protocol is a CAS protocol, the SS7 truks are o ports 5 through 8. Do oe of the followig: - For ANSI SS7, coect T1 cables to the RJ48C ports labeled Truk 5 through Truk 8. or - For ITU C7, coect E1 cables to the RJ48C ports labeled Truk 5 through Truk 8.

SP201 Istallatio Guide 3 c For ISDN truks, do oe of the followig: For ETSI ISDN, coect E1 cables to the RJ48C ports labeled Truk 5 through Truk 8. or For NI2 ISDN, coect T1 cables to the RJ48C ports labeled Truk 5 through Truk 8. Note: I a stadard istallatio, chaels o truk 1 of the SP201 map to chaels o truk 5, ad vice versa. I like maer, chaels o truk 2 map to chaels o truk 6 (ad vice versa). Stadard mappig cotiues with truks 3 ad 7 ad with truks 4 ad 8. 3. If you are usig a DC coectio for the SP201, coect the appropriate wires to the power iput o the power supply, as described i the followig substeps: a Coect a earth groud wire to the chassis, as follows: Attach a (miimum) 12 AWG wire to the large earth groud screw, located below the safety groud symbol o the rear of the SP201 chassis. Use a rig termial, such as a AMP (part umber 36160) for this coectio. Note: A earth groud must coect to the SP201 chassis itself so that the chassis remais grouded eve whe the power coectio is removed. b If your SP201 is a DC model, coect a (miimum) 14 AWG three-wire iput cable to the gree three-pi power plug. Make sure you coect the correct wire to each post. With the screwheads facig your left ad with the three progs poitig away from you (as show i Figure 2), ote the followig: The top post is -48 volts DC. The middle post is DC commo. The bottom post (earth groud) is ot used. (A groud wire was coected to the chassis i Step 3a.) Figure 2. Power Coector 4. Coect the SP201 to a power source (a power outlet), ad switch the power o. Note: Shipmets withi North America iclude a power cable for coectio to the power outlet. For shipmets outside North America, cotact your distributor for a cable that meets local requiremets to coect the power supply to a outlet. 5. Coect a DB9 cable from the DB9 serial port of the SP201 to the DB9 COM port of a cotrol termial for example, a PC. 6. O the cotrol termial, start a termial emulatio program, such as HyperTermial. Cofigure the serial commuicatios for the cotrol termial as follows: Baud rate 9600 bps Data bits 8 Parity Noe Stop bit 1 Flow cotrol Noe Whe commuicatio has bee established, you should see the prompt.

4 SP201 Istallatio Guide 7. If you do t see a prompt, press Eter oce. The prompt appears. Note: After you have coected a local termial to the SP201 device, you ca coect a remote termial to the local termial ad maage the device from a remote locatio. See the documet Remote Access to SigalPath Devices. B Clockig Cofiguratio Eter the truk umber [1-8] from which this card is to derive its clock source.
