The tanks and spheres were for storing various types of petroleum products such as liquid sulphur, water, diesel oil, crude oil, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). A modern facility for fabrication of pressure vessels was launched by at Mussafah in 1996. This facility is capable of manufacturing pressure vessels of varying thickness up to 160 millimeters by hot rolling and 100 millimeters by cold rolling which totals 6,000 tonnes per annum. Other products manufactured at this facility include slug catchers, separators, columns, towers, scrubbers, evaporators and other related equipment made of carbon steel and stainless steel. ASME has accredited the new state-of-the-art facility for manufacturing pressure vessels to use U, U2, S and R stamps. A newly-built Jack-Up Barge SEP-450 was infused into service in April 2012 and another Jack-Up Barge SEP-550 is expected to be commissioned in June 2014. A Derrick Lay Ship DLS- 4200 which is at the advanced stage of construction is expected to be available for service by March 2013.
