1 Alberta Oil and Gas Mission to United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia. November 7 to November 19, 2013 Alberta Ministry of International and Intergovernmental Relations (IIR), in partnership with the Canadian Embassies, is coordinating an Alberta Oil and Gas Mission to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia. The mission will begin in to attend the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) 2013 and then continue on to and Dammam, Saudi Arabia. This mission, while open to all energy-related companies, will be of particular interest to: Oil and gas manufacturers and service companies Environmental air, soil and water remediation companies Education and training institutes and companies Why Participate? Saudi Arabia is the world s largest oil producer (9.4 million barrels per day (bbl/d) and the largest exporter with a volume of 8.5 million bbl/d in Saudi Arabia s economy is heavily dependent on oil, despite attempts at diversification remains a petroleum-based economy. Saudi Arabia plays a leading role in OPEC, as it has the largest petroleum reserves in the world at billion barrels (bbl) (2011), which is approximately one-fifth of the world s proven reserves. Saudi Arabia s proven natural gas reserves are estimated at 264 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) (2011), ranking 6th in the world (compared to Alberta s 35.7 Tcf (2011)). Saudi Arabia is attempting to stimulate growth of the private sector in order to diversify its economy. These efforts are focused on areas such as power generation, natural gas exploration, and the petrochemical sector. Bahrain contains 125 million barrels of proven oil reserves. In 2009 Bahrain produced 48 thousand bpd and consumed most of it with exports of 3 thousand bpd. Proven natural gas reserves are estimated at 3 trillion cubic feet. Bahrain exports refined petroleum products rather than crude oil (a significant portion of raw material is supplied by Saudi Arabia) with most of Bahrains s exports going to India and other Asian markets. Bahrain s oil sector accounts for two-thirds of its total government revenue. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has 97.8 billion barrels of proven oil reserves, and has the world's sixth largest natural gas reserves of Tcf. Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) currently has projects worth CAD $9 billion at various stages of execution with a further US $6 billion planned for infrastructure expansion over the next 5 years. The UAE is searching for sour gas technology required for the development of onshore and offshore oil and gas fields, and the expansion of existing production facilities. ADIPEC is the Middle East s most influential industry event for knowledge exchange of extraction, production, transportation and utilization issues in the oil and gas industry. The 2013 programme will have the theme Energy for All in a Changing World and will address six main categories: Geosciences, Projects, Gas and Oil Field Developments, Drilling and Completions, Maintenance/Integrity/HSE and security/operations, Gas Processing Technologies. ADIPEC has been a biannual event since Due to growth and importance of the oil and gas industry in the Middle East, ADIPEC will become an annual event for The event will be held every November in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). It is the largest exhibition for the Middle East oil and gas industry and is supported by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and the UAE s Ministry of Energy. It receives additional support from Ministries and National Oil Companies from other Gulf Confederation Council (GCC) countries. 1

2 In 2012, ADIPEC hosted over 1,600 exhibitors and attracted more than 51,000 attendees from 95 countries. While most attendees are from the Gulf Region, it also attracts delegates from other regions that are part of Alberta s geographic priorities Asia, Americas, Europe. ADIPEC allows key players from these priority regions to meet, connect and discuss relevant industry issues. Alberta has partnered with the Embassy of Canada, at ADIPEC, since 2000 and there has been a steady increase of Alberta company participation. In 2000, three companies participated, while in 2010, there were 31. FOCUS, GOALS AND BENEFITS OF THE MISSION The primary goals of this mission are to: 1) Showcase Albertan and other Canadian oil and gas companies, their services and technologies to key players in the Middle East. 2) Identify and support the creation of strategic alliances and business partnerships between GCC companies and Alberta companies. 3) Facilitate introductions to GCC key players in the oil and gas industry, foreign contractors, service providers, project integrators, and suppliers. 4) Gather market information and industry knowledge to enable Albertans to be more successful in the region. 5) Creation of new alliances and business partnerships; enhancing previous connections. 6) Introductions to key industry contacts and prospective partners/customers, including Information technology as applicable to Oil and Gas industry. The program in each location will consist of: Pre-information session (3 weeks prior) on mission components and financial environment On-site general sessions, outlining local conditions, business practices, legal and banking requirements, energy background and opportunities Pre-set meetings (a minimum of 2 per location) for each company, based on information provided Roundtables with local business groups and/or Chambers of Commerce Free time for meetings arranged during roundtables Networking events in each location By participating in this mission you will: Understand more about business approaches and effective market strategies in the target markets; Identify and meet appropriate partners such as agents and representatives; Meet with procurement specialists in National Oil Companies and multi-national partners; Evaluate procurement and partnership opportunities with contracting companies involved in providing services and products for oil and gas industry; and Introduce your services, technology and expertise to market leaders and decision-makers in who might not otherwise learn about your company. 2

3 MISSION CRITERIA: We are currently recruiting for this mission. There are a limited number of spaces available. This mission is best suited for companies who have already devoted some time and resources toward developing this market; however, attendance at ADIPEC may be a good fit for companies looking for an introduction to the Middle East. This mission may be a fit if you feel your company would benefit from: Participating in the agenda of meetings and planned events and/or, Are looking for a strategic alliance partner, representative, agent or distributor. ESTIMATED COSTS A. Registration Fee for the Mission As we will be arranging for a program in three different cities, the registration fee structure is: Abu Dhabi: CDN $1,000 for the first company representative ($500/additional representative) Saudi Arabia and Bahrain: CDN $1,250 for the first company representative ($ 500/additional representative) The fees cover: Business networking event costs Invitation and response tracking for company-selected attendees at networking events Logo will be displayed at all Government of Alberta led functions. Distribution of promotional material including brochures, pamphlets and business cards within Canadian pavilion. Pre-show meetings with Government of Alberta trade and Investment officers. This will help the GOA team gain a better understanding of your business goals and objectives. This will also give the GOA team a better understanding of the products or services your company is selling. Matchmaking activities and meeting coordination Airport transfers, if traveling with the group Logistical assistance (including group ground transportation) Compilation, translation and printing of short company descriptions for Alberta Company Profile booklet This registration fee does not cover airline tickets, lodging, meals or other incidentals.
