Checkout Periods Choose between 1-3 weeks for e-books and audiobooks. If a book is popular, there might be a queue but you can sign up to be notified when it is available. There s no need to return a book but you ll want to remove it from your device after you re finished reading see the last step of Checking Out an e-book for instructions. Setting up your OverDrive account 1. You will first need to set up an Overdrive account. You can do this by visiting Overdrive.com on a computer via an Internet browser (such as Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.). 2. You will be asked to sign up for an OverDrive account which is required to use OverDrive. The OverDrive account can be used on multiple devices so you can have the same book available to read even at the same page you last stopped reading no matter which device you are using. 3. When signing up for an OverDrive account, it is best to choose the sign up using library card option.
4. Search for the Peabody Institute Library & select the library from the others within the list of results. 5. Enter your library card number; the resulting screen will give you the option to provide your name and email address if you state you are over the age of 13. Regardless of the answer you give to the question of age, you can skip entering the optional information and simply tap on sign up to complete the process. 6. When setting up your account, choose Add a Library and follow the prompts to search for the Peabody Institute Library. Select the NOBLE library system to complete the process.
Checking Out an ebook or Audiobook 1. On a computer, visit our catalog for e-books and digital audiobooks using an Internet browser: https://noble.overdrive.com/ 2. Search for a title: B A C A. This menu bar will always be present providing you with a link to your account, access to a simple or advanced search, or a link to your bookshelf/loans. B. These options will allow you to search by topic, item type, or narrow your search to the Overdrive catalog of items just for kids. C. Clicking on the bookmark below the cover will add the title to your wish list.
To see more information, click the circle with three dots on the book cover. Here you can read a sample of the book, get recommendations for similar items, or view details, including available formats, ratings, a summary, and more. The Overdrive interface will tell you the status of an item with a banner at the top of the book cover image. It will say [AVAILABLE] in blue, or [WAIT LIST] if the item is currently checked out. Availability status shows on top
There are two ways to borrow an item in Overdrive: 1. You can place a hold on a [WAIT LIST] item by clicking [PLACE A HOLD] below the book title on the main screen. You can borrow or place a hold by clicking here. 2. You can also borrow a title from the detail screen for that item. Click on the book cover. On the next screen, choose BORROW in blue. Adjust the checkout period by clicking the drop-down arrow.
Transfer Borrowed Books to Your Kindle 1. On a computer, visit our catalog for e-books and digital audiobooks using an Internet browser: https://noble.overdrive.com/ 2. Click on the bookshelf icon at the top right of your screen. 3. Tap [CHOOSE A FORMAT], select [Kindle Book], and you will be taken to Amazon.com to complete the transfer of your library book to your Kindle. (If you need to complete this later, OverDrive will remember your format selection.) Click [Get Kindle Book] and continue! 4. Once you complete the final step and click on Get for Kindle, a new window will open for the Amazon site; select get library book. You will then be asked to sign in to your Amazon account and then choose which Kindle you want to send it to.
To Transfer: If you have a WiFi signal, you do not need to do anything to transfer your ebook to the Kindle it will arrive automatically next time your Kindle connects to the signal. If you do not have a WiFi signal, you can choose the Download now option, and follow the instructions at http://bit.ly/usbtransfer on how to transfer the file to your Kindle. NOTE: When browsing e-books, if you see a red highlight USB only you cannot transfer it via a WiFi signal and will have to use the USB cable that came with your Kindle. Changing the Default Loan Period 1. OverDrive has a default loan period of one week. You can change that default in your account within the OverDrive app. In the upper-right corner of any OverDrive catalog page you ll see an Account icon. Tap on the icon and sign in using your library card number. 2. Tap on Settings in the right-hand column of options. Under Lending Periods you can choose 7, 14 or 21 days for e-books and Audiobooks. 3. Searching the Catalog
The Advanced Search A B A. The format option allows you to view only OverDrive app e-books, which are labeled as Adobe or Open EPUB and PDF e-books. Adobe e-books are popular works of recent fiction and Open e-books are mostly classic works of literature. For audiobooks, choose MP3 audiobook. B. Selecting Show only titles with copies available limits results to items that can be checked out immediately, rather than those with a wait list. Returning an e-book early or removing the title from your Kindle You don t have to return an e-book but if you have finished an e-book early and want to return it in order to free up your account, you can do so. This is also the same process as removing an e-book that is past its checkout date from your Kindle. 1. From the amazon.com homepage, hover your mouse over the Your Account option in the upperright corner. Choose Manage Your Kindle from the dropdown.
2. After logging in to your account, you will see a list of books that you have purchased from Amazon as well as the e-books you have checked out from the library these will be noted as borrowed. Hovering your mouse over Actions located to the right of it will give you a series of options. Choose Return this book. 3. Once you have returned the book, the page will reload and you will see that the title is still listed. Hovering your mouse over Actions again will give you a smaller series of options. Choosing Delete from Library will clear the book from your Kindle the next time it syncs.
