F14 Envirnmental Standards fr Facility Operatins and Maintenance Page 3 Appendix A: Guidelines fr achieving ur Envirnmental Standards fr Facility Operatins 1.0 Waste Management: - The Grand Erie District Schl Bard shall, where pssible, aim t reduce, reuse and recycle waste materials in all departments, schls and facilities. - The Bard shall cnduct waste audits at a minimum f ne elementary and ne secndary schl each schl year. Based n audit results, a reductin plan will be develped and psted at all bard facilities.this is in accrdance with Ontari Regulatin 102/94. - The Bard will supprt, hwever pssible, initiatives and prgrams t divert materials frm dispsal in landfills by encuraging the reuse and recycling f items. 2.0 Hazardus Waste: - The Grand Erie District Schl Bard is cmmitted t the safe and envirnmentally friendly management f all hazardus waste generated thrugh curricular activities and facility prcesses. - The Bard recgnizes the imprtance f prper management and dispsal f hazardus waste and cmpliance with legislative requirements (Ontari Envirnmental Prtectin Act), statues, by-laws and prcedures. - Hazardus waste cllectin will be dne each June where schl staff will be respnsible fr cmpleting the Hazardus Waste Inventry Frms and submit t Facility Services. - Examples f hazardus wastes created within ur facilities include: Chemicals, minerals, radiactive wastes, specimens, aged r bslete chemicals. Paints, wd, metal, chemical and cnstructin wastes generated thrugh technlgy. Chemicals and supplies used in pht prcessing. Oil, paints, slvents and lubricants used within aut technlgy prgrams. 3.0 Green Cleaning: - The Grand Erie District Schl Bard is cmmitted t using the mst human and earth friendly prducts which leave the least negative impact n the building ccupants and the envirnment. - Thrugh a management prgram, The Grand Erie District Schl Bard will: adpt a green clean prgram; strive t use certified green prducts thrugh standards, such as: Frest Stewardship Cuncil, EcLg and GreenSeal; Fr all prducts withut green certificatins, we are cmmitted t cnsidering and evaluating chemical cntents and cmpsitin, including ph levels and raw materials used. Include Green Cleaning prduct specificatins in all requests fr prpsal and tenders issued fr cleaning prducts. 4.0 Water Cnservatin: - The Grand Erie District Schl Bard is cmmitted t the prtectin f ur lcal watersheds and resurces. - The Bard recgnizes the imprtance f water cnservatin and will seek t identify pprtunities t reduce water cnsumptin while prmting efficient use f water amng staff, students and schl cmmunity. - The Bard is cmmitted mnitring and measuring ptable water quality and cnsumptin. This is in accrdance with Ontari Regulatin 170/03 and 243/07. 5.0 Energy Cnservatin/Building Autmatin System: - The Grand Erie District Schl Bard will cnsider renewable energy ptins, when ecnmically feasible, as a way t minimize the building s envirnmental impact. - The Bard will cnduct annual energy audits, which will include saving and cst analysis. Based n audit results, a reductin plan may be develped in rder t identify energy saving pprtunities and trends f inefficiency. This is in accrdance with the Ontari Green Energy Act.

Based n audit results, a reductin plan may be develped in rder t identify energy saving pprtunities and trends f inefficiency. This is in accrdance with the Ontari Green Energy Act. - The Grand Erie District Schl Bard supprts the nging accuntability and ptimizatin f building energy perfrmance and identifies pprtunities fr additinal energy-saving investments thrugh their Building Autmatin System (BAS). - The Bard s BAS mnitrs and cntrls the perfrmance f mechanical equipment and majr building systems, including heating, cling, ventilatin, and lighting, regulating indr cmfrt and cnditins during ccupied and unccupied times. - Thrugh the BAS, infrmatin is cllected and stred in rder t make infrmed decisins regarding the buildings peratins and ptential energy-savings. - The Grand Erie District Schl Bard supprts the purchasing and installatin f energy-efficient equipment, where feasible. 2.0 Purchasing Equipment - The Grand Erie District Schl Bard s maintenance divisin is cmmitted t adhering t the Bard s prcedure F107, including subsectin 19.0 titled Envirnment Prtectin: 3.0 Waste Minimizatin: - The Grand Erie District Schl Bard Maintenance divisin shall, where pssible, aim t reduce, reuse and recycle waste materials. - The Grand Erie District Schl Bard is cmmitted t the safe and envirnmentally friendly management f all hazardus waste generated thrugh curricular activities and facility prcesses. 4.0 Schl Grund Greening: - The Grand Erie District Schl Bard will strive t prvide schl grunds that are safe, functinal, maintainable, aesthetically pleasing and envirnmentally respnsible. - The Grand Erie District Schl Bard Maintenance divisin shall, where pssible, partner with schl s administratin, staff, parents and lcal cmmunity t supprt, design and implement schl grund greening prjects, enhancements and rehabilitatins. - Schl Grund Greening prjects will increase educatinal pprtunities related t the Ontari Curriculum; encurage active, passive and learning spaces; imprvements t the safety, cmfrt and aesthetics; and/r cntribute t greening and envirnmental initiatives. Prjects include, but are nt limited t, tree planting, utdr classrms, shade areas/structures, creatin f gardens, sprts areas and passive play areas.
