CONDITIONAL ADMISSION CSULB offers conditional admission to students who apply and meet the academic qualifications for admission but do not have the required English language proficiency. Successful completion of Level 4 of the Intensive English Program (IEP) fulfills the English language requirement for CSULB undergraduate programs. Successful completion of Level 6 of the IEP program fulfills the English language requirements for most CSULB graduate programs. UNIVERSITY CREDIT COURSES: Students in Levels 5 and 6 of the IEP program may take 1 to 2 CSULB university credit courses through Open University. Students in Levels 5 and 6 should add an additional week of studies for final exams during the Fall and Spring sessions. HOW TO APPLY TO THE AMERICAN LANGUAGE INSTITUTE GALLERY Students must be 18 years of age or high school graduates by time they start the American Language Institute to apply. APPLICATION DEADLINES New students must submit all documents at least 4 weeks prior to their desired start date. Transfer students must submit all documents at least 2 weeks prior to their desired start date. SUBMIT: 1. American Language Institute Application Form 2. American Language Institute Payments $150 Application Fee First semester s tuition payment 3. Financial Documents Bank statement with a minimum balance of $9,600 U.S. dollars that is less than 6 months old, sponsor letter or financial guarantee. 4. GALLERY MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the American Language Institute (ALI) is to provide quality English as a Second Language instruction that meets the high educational standards of its affiliate campus, California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). As a unit within College of Continuing and Professional Education, the selfsupport division on campus, the American Language Institute responds to the needs of a variety of audiences. As such, the American Language Institute includes long-term and short-term programs, credit and non-credit courses, as well as support services and activities appropriate for its different clients. A large part of the efforts within the institute focuses on the Intensive English Program (IEP), which offers academic and practical ESL instruction to a postsecondary audience. The IEP administrators, faculty and staff endeavor to maximize learning and successfully prepare students for studies at U.S. colleges and universities.
