2 DBU began in 1898, the first two-year institution of higher education in Texas. In 1968, the college moved from junior college status to senior college status and in 1985, was renamed Dallas Baptist University after achieving university status. DBU now sits on almost 300 acres conveniently located in the heart of the Metroplex, secluded within a hill country setting, giving our students the best of both suburban and urban locales. Dallas Baptist University is regionally accredited and recognized by the Commission of Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The university has achieved level five status, now offering two doctoral programs. In the 2009 issue of U.S. News and World Report, DBU was listed among the Best Universities Master s, offering 20 Master s degrees and 27 Dual degrees. DBU s President, Dr. Gary Cook, came to serve in 1988 and decided to build his house on campus. Dr. Cook can often be found jogging around the campus track or conversing with students. It was he who began inviting and welcoming international students to Dallas Baptist University s campus. Today, DBU supports more than 540 internationals from over 50 countries.
