St. Petersburg Yacht Club Notice of Race 1. RULES 1.1. The Organizing Authority (OA) and host of the regatta is the St. Petersburg Yacht Club (SPYC). The venue is the TradeWinds Resort on St. Pete Beach. 1.2. The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS). 1.3. The class rules and championship rules of the International Contender Association will also apply. 1.4. Any prescriptions of the national authority that will apply will be posted on the official notice board 1.5. An International Jury will be appointed. Decisions of the jury will be final as provided in Rule 70.5 2. ADVERTISING Boats may be required to display advertising chosen and supplied by the Organizing Authority. 3. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY 3.1. The regatta is open to all boats of the International Contender class. 3.2. All competitors must be members of their National Contender Class Association. 3.3. Eligible boats may enter by completing the attached Entry Form. Completed entry forms should be mailed, with a check in payment of the fee, or faxed, along with a MasterCard or VISA number for payment of the fee, to Phyllis Eades: fax: 727 895 4779, voice: 727 822 3873. Paper and electronic Entry forms can be obtained from the SPYC web site at: www.spyc.org/regattas 4. FEES 4.1. The regatta entry fee for the World Championships is $380.00 (US) for paid, completed entries received by February 22, 2012, will be pre registered. 4.2. The fee for entries received between February 23, 2012, and entry closing at 1400 April 22, 2012, will be increased to $450.00. An Entry Form without payment will not be accepted. 4.3. The ICA will pay half of the entry fee for Juniors under 21 years of age, and half the entry fee for overseas competitors under the age of 25. 4.4. The entry fees include regatta functions described in the schedule for the competitors. Additional tickets to social events may be ordered on the Entry Form for an additional fee for each scheduled function. Additional tickets can be purchased in US currency at registration. MEASUREMENTS 6.1. A Measurer will be present throughout the World Championships. 6.2. Each boat shall produce a valid measurement certificate. 6.3. All boats and equipment entered for the championships shall be presented for measurement. All boats must comply with class rules. 6.4. Spot checking may also be performed on and off water during the regatta. A boat found to be non conforming will be protested. Measurement protests will only be accepted either from the Race Committee or Jury. This changes rule 60.1(a). 7. 8. BERTHING CONTENDER WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP Boats will be launched, hauled, and stored when not in use on the beach adjacent to the Tradewinds Resort. 9. VENUE The racing area will be located on the Gulf of Mexico approximately one mile west of the TradeWinds Resort beach depending on wind direction and velocity. 10. COURSES 10.1. Course 1 will consist of a triangle followed by a sausage and a windward finish. 10.2. Course 2 will consist of a triangle followed by a sausage followed by a further triangle and a windward finish. 10.3. Course diagrams will be provided in the Sailing Instructions. 10.4. Each race is intended to be approximately 60 minutes in length for the first finisher. 11. SCORING 11.1. The scoring system will be the Low Point Scoring System of RRS Appendix A. Completion of four races constitute the World Championship regatta 11.2. Four races are required to be completed to constitute a series. When fewer than five races have been completed, a boat s series score will be the total of her races scored. This changes rule A2. 11.3. When 5 to 8 races have been completed, a boat s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score. The only exception is where a boat is awarded a non excludable result by The International Jury. 11.4. When 9 or more races have been completed, a boat s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst two scores. This changes rule A2. The only exception is where a boat is awarded a non excludable result by the International Jury. 12. PRIZES 12.1. The regatta winner will obtain the title 2012 International Contender Class World Champion, and will be awarded the International Contender World Champion Perpetual Trophy. 12.2. The first tenth placed boats will be awarded prizes. 12.3. Prizes will also be awarded to: the 1st junior under 21years old, the 1 st Master age 50 or more, and the 1 st Woman overall, in accordance with International Contender Championship Rule B10. 12.4. 13. SUPPORT BOATS CONTENDER WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 13.1. All support boats shall register with the OA at Registration. 13.2. All support boats shall stay at least 100m away from the race area during racing. 14. RADIO COMMUNICATIONS Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones. 15. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See Racing Rule 4, Decision to Race. The OA will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with, prior to, during, or after the regatta. 16. INSURANCE Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third party liability insurance with a minimum coverage of $300,000 liability insurance per event or the equivalent. Insurance certificates shall be available for inspection upon request. 16. APPENDIX C.--.VENUE INFORMATION Fellow Sailors, On behalf of the Members and Flag Officers of the St. Petersburg Yacht club, I would like to invite members of the International Contender Class to join us in sunny Florida, USA for the Contender World Championship April 22 through 28, 2012 and the preliminary warm up USA Open Championship April 19 through 21, 2012. The unique characteristics of the Contender have inspired us to create a superlative event that will be a memorable unique experience for competitors.
