Stay young! Get involved! TASC A B ALLROOM AND CASUAL DANCE NEWS TASCA s Sans Souci Dance committee (Brenda Davis, Debbie Gabehart and Doris Valentin) have been hard at work planning and scheduling the first two ballroom dances of this new year. And festive occasions they will be indeed, beginning with the Valentine s Ballroom Dance on Saturday February 13. Music will be provided by Tim Letsch. Dress in theme attire and have your picture taken in front of a cheerful Valentine s Day backdrop. Then, get ready for a Mardi Gras theme for the March 12 ballroom dance. Think purple, green, gold, silver or imagine what you might wear to a Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans. Both dances are $20 per person which includes snacks that are provided all evening. Doors open at 6:30, music and dancing goes from 7:00-10:00 PM. And don t forget the casual dances coming up on Friday February 26 and Friday, March 25. Admission to our casual dances is only $10 per person. Bring your friends and family, be relaxed, enjoy a variety of great music and dancing on the best dance floor in East Texas! Also, our dance committee is always in need of volunteers to help with planning, decorating, maintaining refreshments, cleanup, etc. If you would like to volunteer to help, let us know. TMA CELEBRATES 45 YEARS WITH NEW EXHIBITION Celebrating 45 years of serving the greater East Texas community, the Tyler Museum of Art casts the spotlight on our nation s diversity for its first major exhibition of 2016, titled Embracing Diverse Voices: 90 Years of African-American Art. The show opened to the public in January and will continue through March 20. Spanning almost a century, these artworks demonstrate a wide range of stylistic approaches and viewpoints some offering a glimpse of an artist s personal vision, with others speaking out as bold political and social calls to action. The exhibit includes painting, photography, sculpture and prints (60 works in all) by 25 of the most prominent African-American artists of the last century including Romare Bearden, Elizabeth Catlett, Ernest C. Withers and Kara Walker, plus Jacob Lawrence s complete 22- piece Legend of John Brown Series. All TMA exhibits can be viewed free on the first Friday of each month. The museum opens Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The museum is located on the TJC campus at 1300 S. Mahon. For more information, call (903) 595-1001.
