Dr. Jorge Alvarez High School Spanish I Syllabus I Instructor Name: Rosa Candida Rodriguez Time Frame: 2011 2012 Email: candida.rodriguez@ppsd.org Course Description: Spanish 1 Students learn to understand, speak, read and write in Spanish and gain an understanding of Hispanic life and character. Four skills in elementary Spanish: listening, speaking, reading, and writing are further developed within the contest of Hispanic culture. GSEs/ Standards Addressed: Students comprehend Spanish when listening to a variety of sources. Students communicate by speaking Spanish for a variety of purposes and audiences. Students comprehend Spanish when reading a variety of materials. Students communicate by writing Spanish for a variety of purposes and audiences. Students demonstrate knowledge and understanding of cultures that use Spanish. STANDARDS FOR FOREIGN LANGUAGE LEARNING COMMUNICATION Communicate in Languages Other than English 1.1: Students engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions. 1.2: Students understand and interpret written and spoken language on a variety of topics. 1.3: Students present information, concepts and ideas to an audience of listeners or readers on a variety of topics.
