Conclusions New challenges due to continuous RES-extension drive adaption of tools to ensure system security; Balancing and congestion management are main fields of operation Balancing - Liquid and flexible intraday market is the key element to avoid massive increase of control power - Main future challenge: - Adaption of tools for better integration of demand and RES Congestion management - Leads to increased complexity of system operation - Main future challenges: - Ensure sufficient redispatch potential - International coordination of redispatch measures - Grid extension! 9

Demand Response Market in Germany Product focused on industrial load - Monthly auction of up to 3 GW - 1-minute-average values of sheddable load must stay in the range of 100% to 120% of the contracted value - Power provision has to be confirmed day ahead; Non-provision allowed at 4 days of a month - Fixed price for power provision: 2500 /MW per month - Auction: Bids for energy price with price gap of 400 /MWh Loads can choose between different product types - 15min shedding up to 1h per day, 4 times a week - 4h shedding once a week - 8h shedding once within 14 days Experiences - First Auction in June for July 2013 - ~800MW procured in November auction 12
