MinPet2015 2 nd Circular Page 2 PROGRAM Session 1. Raw Materials and Ore Deposits Conveners: Frank Melcher, Christoph Hauzenberger Mineral deposits are the backbone of our society; both fundamental and applied research help to secure the supply of raw materials for the generations to come. We invite contributions that cover the wide field of raw materials and ore deposits including metal ores, industrial minerals and gemstones. Papers covering the spectrum from exploration, characterization and genetic aspects to mineral processing and process mineralogy are welcome. Session 2. Applied and Industrial Mineralogy Conveners: Johann G. Raith, Aberra Mogessie, Roland Nilica Contributions are invited to various fields of applied mineralogy with special emphasis on the application of the fundamentals and methods of mineralogy, crystallography and chemistry to industrial processes for example in exploration, mining, beneficiation and metallurgy, cement, ceramics and refractory materials, material sciences, waste and secondary raw materials, environmental sciences, biomineralogy etc. Papers covering the full spectrum from theoretical/experimental studies to field-based and case studies are welcome. Session 3. Mineral Analysis Conveners: Clivia Hejny, Ronald Miletich, Martin Dietzel Modern analytical in-situ techniques of mineral analysis under various conditions, new minerals and their classification, crystal chemistry and crystal structure solution of minerals, their synthetic analogues, and mineral phases relevant to technology, topotactic phase relations in rocks and ceramic materials. Session 4. Petrology & Geochemistry Conveners: Rainer Abart, Ronald Bakker, Peter Tropper The mineral content, microstructure and texture as well as the chemical and isotopic signature of minerals, rocks, fluids, and melts are the main sources of information from which the genetic history of a rock and, ultimately, the geological evolution of crust and mantle units are reconstructed. The unprecedented supply of analytical data at ever increasing spatial resolution and sensitivity coupled with improved experimental calibrations and theoretical understanding of phase equilibria and kinetic processes provide fuel for continuously advancing research in contemporary petrology and geochemistry. We invite contributions from this wide field in Earth sciences. Every direction, be it with a focus on field based, experimental, analytical or theoretical investigations and, particularly, studies combining several of these aspects are very welcome. We explicitly encourage researchers in their early career stages, BSc, MSc, and PhD students to participate and provoke discussion with their original contributions, to both presenting new findings and questioning old views. Session 5. Open Session Conveners: Walter Prochaska, Rainhard Kaindl Abstracts covering more general aspects of mineralogy, petrology and related fields, e.g. education and outreach, health and environment, modelling and simulation etc., or abstracts not fitting into any of the other sessions should be submitted to the MinPet 2015 Open Session.
