Interop Las Vegas 2015 Request for Proposal / Participation Technologies and Concepts for use in the InteropNet Demonstration and Services Network and the InteropNet SDN Lab Prepared by Glenn Evans Lead Network Architect InteropNet

Introduction Interop drives the adoption of technology, providing knowledge and insight to help IT and corporate decision- makers achieve business success. Interop Las Vegas is the only independent IT industry event dedicated to providing technology professionals the unbiased information they need to thrive as new technologies transform the enterprise today. IT Pros come to Interop to see the future of technology, the outlook for IT, and the possibilities of what it means to be in IT. InteropNet - Unique to Interop, the InteropNet is an industry- leading example of a heterogeneous, temporary, volunteer- run network. The InteropNet provides high- speed network connectivity to Interop attendees and exhibitors and supports the Expo floor. In addition, the InteropNet offers unique educational opportunities for the team of volunteers and the networking community at large. SDN Lab - InteropNet will create a purpose- built lab to test Software- Defined Networking (SDN) systems and applications including open source software and vendor hardware and software. Aiming to educate attendees on the principles, functions, and features of SDN concepts and technology, the SDN Lab will test the interoperability of open source and vendor products, and demonstrate SDN concepts in a variety of scenarios. The team of network experts, including industry veterans and vendor engineers, will run whiteboard sessions during the Expo giving attendees an opportunity to interact in the lab environment. Sponsoring the InteropNet and / or the SDN Lab puts your company's technology and concepts directly in front of business technology professionals including implementers and buyers.

Opportunity As an industry innovator you will provide the necessary components that bring together the InteropNet and build a leading edge network and services platform. Working together with a select team of industry and technology experts you will assist in design, deployment, and management of an enterprise class infrastructure. Being a provider for the InteropNet offers an exhibitor invaluable marketing benefits and well as the opportunity to be promoted as a leading company. Opportunities include venue wide signage, coverage in Interop publications and co- branded press releases. For 2015 and beyond, we are looking at creating a stable networking infrastructure platform that will be in operation for an extended period and will allow us to be more flexible with our demonstration concepts and technologies. The InteropNet for Interop Las Vegas 2015 will consist of two (2) elements. 1. A Full Production Demonstration Network (InteropNet) 2. An SDN Concept Demonstration Lab Environment. (InteropNet Lab) InteropNet Production Network A goal of the 2015 InteropNet is to have multiple Providers implement the InteropNet. This is being done with the dual aim providing an area to demonstrate both innovation in network design concepts and performance coupled with classic interoperability. The basic premise of InteropNet operations, is that it will offer Internet access for exhibitors, conference rooms, meeting rooms and attendees and provide a platform which will allow provider and exhibitors to best demonstrate current technologies and concepts. The design requirements included with this Request For Proposals (RFP) outline some of the typical requirements and

methodologies we have used in the past. The final design and makeup of InteropNet technologies is determined by the Provider responses to this RFP and is subject to change or modification based on operational requirements and experience. Interop Engineering reserves the option to only accept parts or relevant components of an RFP response, but not the whole solution or solutions being offered. To aid in this the InteropNet attempts to demonstrate some of the concepts or event themes. For 2015 the focus will be on: Software Defined Networking concepts and deployment Virtualized Network Functions Security Models Multi- DC Failover Storage Replication InteropNet SDN Lab InteropNet will create a purpose- built lab to test Software Defined Networking (SDN) systems and applications, including open source software and vendor hardware, software and applications. SDN proponents promise a new generation of technology that aims to increase network operators functionality, control, and choice. Now that open source and vendor products have moved from PowerPoint to shippable product, it s time to find out if SDN can live up to its promises. The primary question the InteropNet SDN Lab will try to answer is, Are SDN offerings production ready for enterprise environments? The InteropNet SDN Lab aims to educate attendees on the principles, functions, and features of SDN concepts and technology. It will test the interoperability of open source and vendor products, and demonstrate SDN concepts in a variety of scenarios. Our team of network experts, which includes industry veterans and vendor engineers will use both open source and Vendor tools to demonstrate: Networks that adjust to changing workloads and [conditions?]

Using SDN to initiate traffic engineering functions such as selectively routing around problem spots, sending traffic to monitoring devices, or routing to multiple Cloud providers based on dynamic network conditions Automated integration between applications and network resources using APIs and controllers Marketing Benefits 2015 InteropNet Providers receive extensive marketing benefits to enable you to stand apart from competitors and to increase your event ROI: Thought Leadership/Evangelism Participation in the InteropNet Tours Participation in the InteropNet Classroom (including promotion pre- show online, and also on at event signage and collateral) Lead Generation Attendee data from InteropNet Tours Attendee data from InteropNet Classroom sessions Premium Branding Logo on the NOC header Logo on InteropNet Providers hanging banner in main concourse/lobby Logo and company description on InteropNet Sponsors page on the event web sites InteropNet Provider logo adjacent to your exhibitor page listing online Co- Marketing/PR Involvement in Interop s social media campaigns Opportunities to submit blogs and commentary to UBM Tech media sites, including InformationWeek and Network Computing. InteropNet reserves the right to reject any or all proposals; to waive any minor informality in proposals received; to reject any unapproved alternate proposal(s); and reserve the right to reject the proposal of any Proposer who has previously failed to perform competently in any prior business relationship with UBM Tech or its associated or related entities. The rejection of any or all proposals shall not render UBM Tech liable for costs or damages.

Selection Criteria All proposals will first be examined to see if they fit any of the InteropNet or SDN Lab Design Requirements. Each proposal will be examined to see if it is a solution or just a product offering. Specifically we will look for things such as: Does it cover more than one category Does it fill all the requirements for a category or just a subset of a category Is part of a bigger picture, does it need other components to function A product that covers more than one category will score higher, but it will lose points if it doesn't address a subset that another product does. Each proposal will be examined for their support cost. Factors include: Is support onsite or just phone based Does it need any support at all Is it a new vendor and we don't know how to support it Will we have the time to wait for a bug fix or read the manuals A product that has no support may be accepted if we have hot standby spares. A single point of failure however, is unacceptable. Each proposal will be examined for their Engineering Resource cost. Factors include: How many personnel will we need Will we need to build more infrastructure like extra cables or servers Who will build this infrastructure Selection will be based in part on a commitment to promoting involvement in the InteropNet. Examples of factors that will be considered include: Provider must have a minimum commitment of a 10 * 10 Booth for Interop Las Vegas 2015 to obtain a full benefit package Promotion of your involvement in Interop and the InteropNet
