Overdrive App for Nooks: Nook Color, Nook Tablet, & Nook HD provides a collection of ebooks and digital audiobooks through Overdrive, a distributor of digital books to libraries. These instructions will get you started listening to and reading Overdrive books on your Nook. Depending on the file format, you can read Overdrive ebooks in the Overdrive Media Console app on your device, or in a web browser. You can also listen MP3 formatted audiobooks from Overdrive on a Nook using the Overdrive Media Console app. WMA formatted books are not compatible with your Nook. Create an Adobe ID Account To read ebooks on your Nook you will need to set up an Adobe ID account. Go to adobe.com. In the top right hand corner of the page is a small Sign In link. Click on the blue Don t have an Adobe ID? link. Fill out the form and press the Create button. Make sure to record your email and password for future use. MA 07/13 1
Get the App Download and install the Overdrive Media Console app on your Nook. Press the n button on your nook to bring up the menu bar. Tap on the shop icon. Search for overdrive. Choose the Apps tab. Tap on the green Free button. Tap confirm ; the app will begin downloading. MA 07/13 2
Authorize The Overdrive app icon may now appear on your home screen. Tap to open. You can also open the Overdrive app from the The Overdrive app opens to dis- apps menu. play your app Bookshelf. Tap on the menu button. Enter your Adobe ID email and password and tap Authorize. Your Adobe account ID is now saved. Press the menu button and return to your Bookshelf. Tap on App Settings. Add the Library In order to access digital titles available through Pierce County Libraries you will need to add the Library. Press the menu button on your device and then select Get Books. Select Add a Library. Search for Pierce County Library. Choose your library from the list. MA 07/13 4 Tap the outline of the star to the left of the name of the library.
The star will turn yellow, your library is now saved. Return to your Get Books menu, and tap on the name of the library you just added. The Overdrive catalog will open. Checkout and Download Tap the Menu icon to browse titles in different categories. Tap the search icon to search for a particular author or title. MA 07/13 5 To view or edit your account details and checked out items click on the account icon.
Icons in the upper right hand corner of a cover image identify whether the title is an audiobook or an ebook. The same icons indicate if the title is currently available for checkout. If the icon for a title is greyed out you must place your name on the waiting list for that particular book. You may limit your search to books that are immediately available for checkout. Click on the orange Show me only titles with copies available button to do so. Clicking on the grey bookmark, just below a title s cover image, will add the book to your wish list. Note that adding a book to your wish list will not place the book on hold for you. Tap a cover image to view more information about a book. MA 07/13 6
Make note of the formats that the book is available in, listed under Available formats. The type of format will determine how you download/access the title on your device later. Once you have found a book you wish to check out, tap Borrow. Enter your library card number and PIN (last 4 digits of your phone number). The book will be added to your Bookshelf in the Overdrive catalog. Sometimes a title is checked out by another person and not available at this time. Click on Place a Hold, and submit an email address to place a hold and be notified when the title becomes available for checkout. MA 07/13 7
Bookshelf On your Account page you can view your Bookshelf, Holds, Lists, and Account Settings. The Bookshelf will display all of the books you have currently checked out from Overdrive. Tap the Download button for the title(s) you wish to download. In the Overdrive app Bookshelf, tap the title to start listening/ reading! Return & Delete You can delete a book from the Overdrive app at any time. To return or delete a book from the app, tap the plus sign to the right of the title, and select the Return/Delete button. If you select Return then Delete the book will be no longer checked out to you and will be deleted from your device. If you select Delete Only, the book will be removed from the device, but it will remain checked out to you. MA 07/13 8
OverDrive Read Some titles are also available in the new Read format. Overdrive Read is an in-browser ebook reader. It works just like any ebook reading app, except you don t need to activate or install extra software. For more information on the features of Overdrive Read visit read.overdrive.com. Login to your Overdrive Account -either from the Overdrive app or an internet browser app- on your device. From your Account Bookshelf, click on Read instead of Download. Overdrive Read will launch a brief navigation tutorial, then open your library book. MA 07/13 9
The Read book may initially open in the Overdrive app. To read the book in your internet browser application, tap the settings button, choose Options and select Open in Browser.
