Dr Stephen Breslin Chief Executive Glasgow Science Centre Our annual Question of Science dinners have proved very successful. Over the years we ve created a unique event, combining the fun, informality and interaction of a science quiz, a stylish and luxurious dinner, a talented compére and an exceptional guest speaker. 2016 has been about adventures in space. The International Space Station continues to drive advancement in space science, astronomy, physics and a wide range of other STEM subjects, as well as inspiring us and setting an example of what we can achieve as a race. And in Glasgow we ve played a part too with the opening of our state of the art digital planetarium, letting thousands of visitors and school children learn about space like never before. An elite group of men and women return to Earth from the ISS with fascinating and inspiring accounts of experiences the vast majority of us can never dream to have. This year I am enormously proud to host one of them at Glasgow Science Centre. Colonel Chris Hadfield, NASA astronaut and Canadian Airforce test pilot, is our guest speaker at Question of Science 2016.

Meeta Starman Called the most famous astronaut since Neil Armstrong, Colonel Hadfield continues to bring the marvels of science and space travel to everyone he encounters. Colonel Hadfield is a pioneer of many historic firsts. In 1992, he was selected by the Canadian Space Agency as a NASA Mission Specialist Canada s first fullyqualified Space Shuttle crew member. Three years later, aboard Shuttle Atlantis, he was the first Canadian to operate the Canadarm in space, and the first Canadian to board a Russian spacecraft as he helped build space station Mir. In 2001, aboard Shuttle Endeavour, Colonel Hadfield performed two spacewalks the first Canadian to do so and, in 2013, he was Commander of the International Space Station the first and only Canadian to ever command a spaceship so far. During his multi-faceted career, Colonel Hadfield has intercepted Soviet bombers in Canadian airspace, lived on the ocean floor, been NASA s Director of Operations in Russia, and recorded science and music videos seen by hundreds of millions.
