EMBER CELEBRATING THE BEST OF CSR AND PHILANTHROPY IN THE OF LONDON IN PARTNERSHIP WITH A APPEAL INITIATIVE PROVIDING A COMPELLING PLATFORM FOR THE TELLING OF STORIES... AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHOW THE COLLECTIVE EFFORTS OF THE... ONE A YEAR THE CAN UNITE AROUND A COMMON CAUSE. TELLING SHOWING UNITING
A message from The Lord Mayor of the City of London I believe that helping society has always been a key element of what the City does and is an important way to demonstrate the value of the City to society. As a dedicated ambassador for the City, my job is to support and promote the City as the world leader in international finance and business services. However, I also want to promote and celebrate giving in all its forms and highlight the immense outreach and ways in which lives are transformed by the generosity of the City, especially through its charitable and community work. There are over 350,000 workers in the City, all of whom make a difference in giving back to society. will be a moment where I will champion companies and organisations across and connected with the City, regardless of their size or sector, for the good that they do. This richness in diversity is something that I am passionate about celebrating. On, I will be meeting people and their organisations throughout the Square Mile to hear their inspiring and powerful stories and celebrate their achievements. I hope you will join me. Alderman Alan Yarrow The Rt Hon The Lord Mayor of the City of London 2
What is? A day when the City unites and can be proud of the good it does for society. Company foyers and receptions will be showcasing their amazing charitable and community work and letting their staff and visitors know about the difference they are making and the lives they are changing. In the lead up to and on, the Lord Mayor, Alderman Alan Yarrow, will champion the charity and community activities (whether they are CSR, philanthropy, or volunteering initiatives) that companies and organisations undertake as part of their commitment to supporting society, the community and the environment in which they operate. It is a simple initiative for organisations to get involved in and a chance for the whole of the City to support the Lord Mayor and his Appeal. will be a unique opportunity for the City to unite as a collective to celebrate and promote the good it does. Caroline Wright Appeal Director, The Lord Mayor s Appeal For news and updates in the lead up to follow our story in City A.M. 3
Why get involved? Unite to promote the City as a force for good. YOUR BUSINESS will provide a public platform to promote your business making a difference; strengthening your reputation and business retention. Many City companies feel reticent to shout out about their charitable activities. will give your business the opportunity to reach out to the community with the support of the Lord Mayor who will promote and celebrate your philanthropic activities on your behalf. People want to work for (and stay longer at) a responsible company that has a strong corporate responsibility to do good for other people. YOUR COMMUNITY is an opportunity to dedicate a special day to focus on and promote your charitable work and the causes and issues that mean the most to you and your staff. You will join a groundswell of support for establishing an event on the City s calendar which will run from one Lord Mayor to the next and one Appeal to the next. YOUR PEOPLE The day will create a buzz throughout the City which will be experienced by hundreds of thousands of employees, visitors, and clients that enter the Square Mile every day. It will be a day which will make your employees feel proud and inspired. It is an opportunity to encourage your colleagues to partake in your charitable activities and collectively make a bigger impact on communities you care about. 4
How do we get involved? IT IS SIMPLE TO TAKE PART There are three key ways to support. An organisation can opt for one or any combination of the three options below: 1 MAKE A DONATION 2 PROMOTE AND CELEBRATE YOUR CHARITY/ COMMUNITY WORK 3 HOLD A FUNDRAISER 1 MAKE A DONATION CHOOSE FROM TWO OPTIONS: Support the Lord Mayor s own charities through the Appeal by making a suggested donation of 1 to 2 per UK-based employee. NO. On, I look forward to visiting offices to see at first hand the fantastic charity and community work that the City does in its support for society. Alderman Alan Yarrow The Rt Hon The Lord Mayor of the City of London 5
2 PROMOTE AND CELEBRATE YOUR CHARITY/COMMUNITY WORK Join the rest of the City to promote your fantastic work to visitors and colleagues. OPPORTUNITIES TO CONSIDER INCLUDE: Holding a fun activity involving your senior leaders that celebrates your charity partnerships. Promoting your work in your foyers, receptions or canteens. 11 Supporting Creating Giving Money donated to The Lord Mayor s Appeal will support the Lord Mayor s chosen charities for this year: Supporting Every 10 minutes a family in the UK finds out their child is disabled. They can face financial strain, social isolation and a battle to give their children the best start in life. To help these families, The Lord Mayor s Appeal is supporting the Scope Family Fund a fund that will help struggling families to better support their disabled child and the rest of the family. There are 1.5 million individuals with a learning disability in the UK. Vulnerable individuals with learning disabilities and their families have few places to turn to access support as and when they need it. The Lord Mayor s Appeal is supporting Mencap s Empower Me programme a one stop shop for people who are often at the point of crisis to access information, advice and advocacy from advisors who can co-ordinate a tailored combination of support. The Royal Ballet School is recognised as one of the world s greatest centres of classical ballet training which for generations has enriched the international dance world with many of its greatest artists. The Lord Mayor s Appeal funds will support the work of this important School and the talented young dancers who aspire to train there be this as a full time student or through one or the School s outreach programmes. Ensuring that artists are given opportunities based on merit and potential, The Lord Mayor s Appeal is supporting the City & Guilds of London Art School to ensure London keeps cultivating talent and increasing employability of those who want to work in Fine Art, Historic Carving and Conservation of cultural artefacts. The Royal Academy of Arts has promoted art and artists for almost 250 years. The Lord Mayor s Appeal is supporting the much-needed redevelopment to revitalise its site and link its current home Burlington House with Burlington Gardens. This will open up the Academy and enable it to share with a wider public all the elements that make it unique, including its historic treasures, the RA Schools, work by Academicians and its exemplary learning and exhibitions programmes.
