HARTSFIELD JMI SCHOOL Clothall Road, Baldock SG7 6PB http://www.hartsfield.herts.sch.uk Newsletter Spring Term March 2015. Telephone: 01462 895267 Fax No: 01462 894741 E-mail: admin@hartsfield.herts.sch.uk Dear Parents / Carers, Welcome Welcome to the second newsletter of the term which aims to give you a flavour of recent and forthcoming events at Hartsfield. North Hertfordshire Tag Rugby Champions. On Tuesday 3 rd March 2015, Hartsfield School took part in the Under 11 s Tag Rugby Tournament held at Letchworth Rugby Club. The Hartsfield Team won both the quarter and semi-finals by scoring the winning try. With the final in sight and playing against Whitehill School, Hartsfield again scored the winning try to become the North Hertfordshire Tag Rugby Champions! Well done to the Hartsfield Tag Rugby Team for their determination and excellent sportsmanship.

Our Wonderful New Library. The library is now back in use with librarians and children engrossed in the books, it is absolutely gorgeous! The library is timetabled with all classes able to access the books and we are fortunate to have a number of parent volunteers to keep everything running smoothly. The finishing touches to the library have now been completed including some gorgeous artwork. Thank you to Mrs Penny for painting the Roald Dahl Matilda canvas, Mrs Walker for painting the How to train your Dragon canvas and to Mrs Lyons and the Year 6 Art Club for painting the Gruffalo canvas. We have a few canvas frames in school so if any existing or budding artists would like to paint story characters or books we would love to display them. Thank you. I would like to thank all the families who kindly donated books to the school through our Amazon wish list for our new library and for the kind donation of our reading hideaway which the children adore. It is a magnet drawing children in to read! I would also like to thank the community and Baldock Beer Festival Committee for donating 250.00 of Amazon vouchers to the school; some of the books purchased with the vouchers are displayed in the photograph.

Science Week. We all enjoy our themed weeks at school which adds another layer of interest and excitement to our learning and experiences for the children. We will be holding a Science week this term during the week of 16 th 20 th March, with a biology and habitats emphasis this time. Throughout the week, the children will be completing a range of bird themed activities in class linked to the Science theme, including Owl stories and poems, information about birds of prey, artwork, IT research, conservation work and music. On Wednesday 18 th March we are delighted to be welcoming visitors from the English School of Falconry Birds of Prey Centre to the school. During the morning, all children will have the opportunity to meet and learn about different birds of prey before an exciting flying demonstration. We are looking forward to a fun and inspiring week. Thank you to Miss Childs for organising the week. Year 3 Rainforest Cake sale. Year 3 have been learning about the world s rainforests and the rainforest animals and habitats as part of their science curriculum. Some of their work has included writing to a number of wildlife organisations seeking information about the rainforest. As part of the Science week, Year 3 will be holding a series of cake sales to raise money to support rainforest animals threatened by deforestation. If you would like to support this cause, please send your child with 50p to buy a cake following the timetable below. On behalf of Year 3 thank you for your help. Day Monday 16 th March Year 5 Year Group Tuesday 17 th March Year 1 Wednesday 18 th March Year 4 Thursday 19 th March Year 2 Friday 20 th March Year 6 & Year 3 Baldock Primary Music Festival. On Friday 13th February, Year 6 spent the day at Knights Templar School taking part in the Baldock Primary Festival of Music which included children from the Baldock Town schools and villages and was led by Mrs Dawson, a member of the KTS music department. Parents and staff were invited to the afternoon performance and we were all exceptionally proud of the children and in particular, our Hartsfield children who behaved impeccably all day and were quite superb when they sang. Baldock has strong links across the community which we all value and support. www.hartsfield.herts.sch.uk We are increasingly attempting to upload more information onto our website in order to help to keep parents informed and updated. This is a gentle prompt to suggest you might wish to have a look when time allows. We have a number of policies on the website, curriculum plans, some schemes of work e.g. Maths and PSHCE, information about Pupil Premium and Special Educational Needs.

Easter Eggs for the School Council. Our School Council plays an important role in the life of the school at Hartsfield and all our Councillors take their role very responsibly ensuring that the voice of all children is heard and expressing their ideas by influencing projects around the school. The School Council would be very grateful if you would be generous enough to donate an Easter Egg for the School Council Easter Egg Raffle. The Easter Eggs will be displayed in the entrance area and the School Council will be selling raffle tickets from Monday 23 rd March 2015 until the raffle is drawn by the School Councillors on the last day of term on Thursday 2 nd April. This event is exceptionally popular with our children because it is organised by the children, for the children and your support would be greatly appreciated. A letter from the School Council will be sent home shortly. Sainsbury s Vouchers. Sainsbury s are currently running the Active Kids Voucher scheme and I have been asked by Miss O Connor to thank you for all your contributions to date and to request that you continue to send the vouchers into school. Thank you. Finally. Our School Council Chairman Olly Catlin has recently written to families reminding everyone that on Friday 13 th March 2015 it is Red Nose Day. The children are looking forward to a dress up day and have voted for wearing red clothes next Friday and some are planning to wear a funny face! We are going to learn the Red Nose Day song and have an en mass performance. All donations sent into school will be forwarded to the Red Nose Day Appeal. At the end of the term we will say goodbye to Mrs Bradford. We will all miss her very much indeed but are delighted that she has secured a teaching post closer to home and of course we will stay in touch. Mrs Lawes will compliment Mrs Walker in Class 12 from the summer term. I have added as many confirmed dates as possible on the Diary Dates page and further dates and information will follow; in the meantime, do not hesitate to contact the school if you have any queries you feel we can help with. Yours sincerely, Suzanne Summerhayes Headteacher.
