Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Installation Guideline for Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Floor and Wall Waterprofing Systems Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Floor Waterproofing System Waterproofing beneath the floor slab against rising ground moisture (18195/4) 1. Preparing the substrate The substrate must be level, of sufficient load-bearing capacity, smooth and free from rigdes and objects. Possible substrates on which to lay the membrane: blinding layer of concrete, load-bearing substrate of gravel sand or underground imeter insulation boards. When planning, it must be ensured that no reinforcing bars running from the foundation into the floor slab penetrate the waterproofing layer. 2. Adjusting the corners Place the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Inner and Outer Corners into the corners of the slab formwork and fasten them to the blinding layer using a mineral building adhesive. 3. Laying Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Formwork Strips on the formwork walls Lay the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Formwork Strips all the way around on the insides of the formwork walls. They must overlap the blinding layer by at least 10 cm. Cut into the overlap in the corners and guide it around the corner without wrinkling. Leave an overlap of at least 7 cm at the short-end joints of the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Formwork Strips and glue them with Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Sealant & Adhesive as follows. Apply a 1 cm thick bead of Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Sealant & Adhesive into the overlap and press the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Formwork Strips firmly together using a hand-held roller. Fold the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Formwork Strips over the top edge of the formwork and fasten it down e.g. using chamfer strips. 4. Laying Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Membrane over the area Lay the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon UDB Membrane sheets loosely over the area and join them together using the integrated adhesive strips along the long edge (overlapping by at least 7 cm). Overlap at the short ends (by at least 7 cm) and glue using Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Sealant & Adhesive as described in Point 3. Lay the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon UDB Membrane loosely over the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Formwork Strips. The Kingspan Gefinex Geficon UDB Membrane and Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Formwork Strips must overlap by at least 7 cm. Tip: lay the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon UDB Membrane sheets simultaneously with reinforcement mesh so that the membrane lies securely when it s windy. 5. Applying spacers for area-wide reinforcement Apply raised, flat-lying spacers over the entire area as a support to reinforce the slab. (E.g. fibre concrete snake or bar spacers) 6. Connecting the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Floor Waterproofing System to pipes and penetrations Cut out penetrations for empty conduits or wastewater pipelines into the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Floor Membrane as precisely as possible using scissors or a cutter knife. Then slide the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Cuff over the pipe. The collar of the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Cuff should rest on the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Floor Membrane without wrinkles. Glue the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Floor Membrane and Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Cuff together using Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Sealant & Adhesive as described in Point 3. Alternatively, seal off wall penetrations using Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Fastening Tape. Rest the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Fastening Tape on the pipe above the level of the slab, overlapped by at least 7 cm over the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Floor Membrane, and press it onto the contour of the pipe. Guide strips around the pipe with an overlap of at least 3 cm. When planning pipes and empty conduits, make sure the pipes are at least 10 cm apart from each other. Distance from wall: at least 20 cm. 7. Visual inspection Conduct a visual inspection before pouring the concrete slab. Any damage must be repaired. Seal off any holes or tears in the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Floor Membrane. To do so, glue a sufficiently large piece of Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Floor Membrane onto the damaged area using Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Sealant & Adhesive. 8. Pouring the concrete slab Pour the concrete in the direction of the overlapping seams, so that the overlaps cannot be forced open by the pressure of the concrete. 9. Waterproofing the corners After removing the concrete formwork, glue Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Duct Tape into the corners above the level of the slab using Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Sealant & Adhesive as described in Point 3.
Standards to Observe Working instructions for the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Waterproofi ng Systems The general test certifi cate (Allgemeines bauaufsichtliches Prüfzeugnis) Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Wall Waterproofing System Waterproofing of the building basement wall and plinth area against rising ground moisture and non-accumulating seepage water. 1. Preparing the wall The wall must be free of loose components, release agents and other contaminants. Smooth out bumps, transitions and irregularities in the wall using mortar. 2. Gluing on the basement wall and plinth waterproofing Lay the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Wall Membrane (preferably horizontally) around the building and glue it in place using a mineral building adhesive. Begin with the bottommost sheet, making a connection with the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Floor Membrane on the edge face of the floor slab. Overlap by at least 10 cm. Lay the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Wall Membrane immediately after the with application of the building adhesive. Push the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Wall Membrane strongly into the glue using a smoothing trowel. Avoid cross-joints in the waterproofing system. Glue horizontally overlapping joints over the entire overlapped surface using mineral building adhesive. 6. Applying the imeter and plinth insulation boards Glue Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Wall Membrane directly to the imeter insulation boards using building adhesive for insulation boards. (Do not use solvent-based adhesives.) Apply imeter insulation boards for the basement wall and plinth area onto the waterproofing as recommended by the manufacturer. We recommend placing the Kingspan Gefinex Protective Mat in front of the imeter insulation boards before proly backfilling the pit. 3. Making the vertical overlapping joints Make vertical points of contact, e.g. at the short ends of the sheets when laid horizontally, overlap and glue them using Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Sealant & Adhesive as follows. Apply a 1 cm thick bead of Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Sealant & Adhesive into the overlap and press the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Wall Membrane firmly together using a hand-held roller. Overlap at least 7 cm. 4. Visual inspection Conduct a visual inspection before laying the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Protective Mat or gluing on insulation boards. Repair any damage! Fix any holes or tears in the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Wall Membrane. To do so, glue a sufficiently large piece of Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Wall Membrane onto the damaged area using Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Sealant & Adhesive. 5. Protecting the waterproofing Before backfilling the pit, protect Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Wall Membrane with Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Protective Mat by running it around the building. Innovation is our Passion With our products, our company has set examples and trends that have made positive changes in the building trade. We want to continue to do so in future and, as Product Manager, I have accepted the challenge of helping shape this course. We work together with architects, installers and building owners in order to continually improve our products and to make them safer and easier to use. That means sometimes we even break away from convention. A good example of this is the development of the 'Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Waterproofi ng System'. Together with planners, installers and the materials testing institute MPA Braunschweig, we developed this waterproofi ng system for the basement wall and fl oor slab. It is an all-round 'care-free package' that brings all the advantages of a coordinated waterproofi ng system. Architects need not worry about how they are going to fi nd and coordinate different products, and installers need not worry about working conditions the waterproofi ng can be laid in just about any weather. Our focus is on developing and manufacturing practical construction products for noise and moisture protection in building construction. With innovative and intelligent system solutions featuring modern materials, we will continue to make building methods not only better, easier and safer in future, but have also pledged, for ourselves and our raw material suppliers, that our products will protect our natural resources so that the building owner can truly enjoy 'healthy living'. My colleagues and I are dedicated to developing innovative and sustainable products within our company, so that we and our customers recognise not only the present but also the future needs and thus follow a common path towards a successful future.
