PROGRAMME OVERVIEW You should choose a career in Software and Web development if... You have an interest in: IT Coding Analytical problem solving Our Software and Web Development Advanced to Technical Modern apprenticeship programme combines high-quality classroom training with on-the-job experience to develop your real world skills. The programme gives you the qualifications, skills and technical grounding in the most popular technologies and programming languages, relevant to the wide range of activities where Software and Web Development play a role. Programme duration 16-24 months After completing the Advanced to Technical Modern apprenticeship you will gain SCQF 6 and SCQF 8 qualifications (equivalent to working at Advanced Higher/HNC Level). Approximately 8% of training takes place at a QA learning centre, with the remaining 92% being completed in the workplace. in workplace in classroom

PROGRAMME INFORMATION What qualifications will I gain? SQA SCQF 6 Diploma in ICT and Telecommunication Professional (Equivalent to working at Advanced Higher/HNC level) SQA SCQF 8 Diploma in ICT and Telecommunication Professional (Equivalent to second year of degree study) With QA s Software and Web Development programme you could go on to become a... Software Developer Web Developer Programmer Entry requirements: You are aged 16-24 You are passionate about a career in IT You have 5 Standard Grades (Level 1-3) OR 5 National Level 5 grades - both including Maths and English You can progress from SCQF 6 to SCQF 8 How is the programme structured? Our programme is delivered via a blended approach you will have time in the classroom alongside online resources to support your learning. You will have access to a learning portal where you get: Pre-reading material before you start a module, so you come to the classroom prepared and can make the most of your face-to-face training. Daily tests and mock exams to help embed your learning and gain confidence for your assessments. Post-reading content if you need to recap anything you have learnt. You will also attend 1 week training courses in a QA learning centre to get face-to-face training for each unit of study.

PART 1 CLASSROOM UNITS The first part of the Software and Web Development Advanced to Technical Modern apprenticeship programme introduces you to the fundamental development skills you need. You will complete the following units in the classroom: Investigating and Defining Customer Requirements 2 This unit teaches you how to understand and define customer requirements. Software Design Fundamental A unit teaching you to understand and apply the fundamentals of software design. Object Oriented Computer Programming 2 This unit introduces the concept of object-oriented programming. Event Driven Computer Programming 2 A unit providing basic knowledge of event-driven programming and its applications in IT. Testing IT and Telecoms Systems 2 This unit introduces the basics of systems testing. Data Modelling 2 A unit offering an introduction to the theory of data modelling. Web Development 2 A unit introducing you to web development concepts. Website Software 3 A unit teaching you how to create a website using appropriate software. Database Software 3 A unit teaching you how to create, modify and utilise databases using the appropriate software.

FLEXIBILITY FOR YOU AND YOUR EMPLOYER PART 2 WORKPLACE UNITS You have the option to progress as far as you want on our Advanced to Technical Modern programme however, you and your employer have the option to step off the programme if continuing study into the second part is not appropriate. If you do step off, you will receive a SCQF 6 apprenticeship qualification equivalent to working at Advanced Higher/HNC level. All grades and credits remain valid, allowing you to resume training whenever you are ready, and gain further qualifications in the future should you choose to do so. The second part of the Software and Web Development Advanced to Technical Modern Apprenticeship programme builds on the strong foundation of technical skills learnt in the first half, you are expected to take a step up when progressing to part 2 refining your skills to a higher level. The workplace units expand on the content learnt in part 1 to a higher level, and you are required to be more analytical in your work. All learning towards your SCQF 8 Diploma takes place in the workplace to ensure your technical knowledge is being practically applied. The are two mandatory units will be completed in the workplace during part 2 of the programme, there are also suggested units available for your employer to choose from to best suits the needs of yourself and the business. Personal Effectiveness 3 This unit develops the skills you need to perform effectively in a team and drive your skills forward. Customer Care for IT and Telecoms Professionals 3 This unit helps you understand the importance of customer care at a higher level.

SUPPORT FROM DAY ONE A dedicated resourcer will be your point of contact when you first apply. They will give you all the information you need to know and will spend time getting to know you and your interests to make sure they match you up with the right role. Once you have started your apprenticeship, a QA Assessor will visit you every 6-8 weeks to guide you through your apprenticeship plan, help you with your workplace units, teach you about the workplace environment and provide feedback for each unit. They will also be there as your point of contact for any questions or help you need such as adjusting to the world of work, or help balancing your studies with work activity. You will also meet a number of QA Tutors who are knowledge experts in their subject areas and will be delivering the theoretical/competency side of your apprenticeship programme in our QA training centres. They are on-hand to prepare you for assessments, mark them and provide you with feedback supporting you for the end point assessment of your apprenticeship which will be a project and an interview. Additional support from QA Our team will also support you with: Managing your finances Updating your CV Applying for council housing, rents and mortgages Dealing with relationship problems
