2 The Ware Assessment Centre (WAC) runs courses for people, with varying levels of experience, to achieve the qualifications needed to work with children. 3 Ware Assessment Centre Childcare Suite Full Qualifications These courses do not require you to take any exams; they are coursework based, during which you will be supported by a tutor and one-to-one support from an assessor. Full Qualification courses run for one evening per week, over a year; with opportunities to enrol in January, April and September. 3 Want to work with Children between the ages of 0 5 years? Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) (QCF) - Level 3 Diploma Once you have achieved this qualification you will be able to work as an Early Years Educator. It will enable you to work with children from birth to 5 years (and gain knowledge of children aged 5 to 7 years). You must be in either a paid or voluntary placement in an early years setting for at least 10 hours per week. Job roles include nursery assistant, class room assistant, pre-school assistant or nanny or childminder.

4 Introduction to Early Years Care and Education (QCF) - Level 2 Certificate This course is suitable for anyone aged 16 or over, who has little or no experience in childcare and is interested in becoming an Early Years Educator (see above). You must have either a paid or voluntary placement in an early years setting for at least 10 hours per week. Job roles include nursery assistant, class room assistant, pre-school assistant or nanny or childminder. The tutor is brilliant, really helpful she was engaging and very easy to learn from. Want to work in a school in a support role? Annaliese King (Level 3 Diploma 2014 with Heather Crouch, Manager of Bluebells Children s Centre. Diploma for Supporting teaching and learning (QCF) - Level 3 Diploma This course is for those who are already working in a school and want to gain a nationally recognised qualification reflecting the work they are doing. It is suitable for teaching assistants, learning support assistants, parent support advisors, learning mentors or those in similar roles. 4

5 Certificate for Supporting Teaching and Learning - Level 2 Certificate This course is for those working or volunteering in a school environment for at least 8 hours per week. It is suitable for learners working in roles that support pupils learning including: teaching assistants, learning support assistants and special needs assistants. Courses run in association with the awarding body CACHE. You will need to attend college for one evening per week, either a Monday or a Wednesday pm. It was great meeting new people and I learnt absolutely loads in a light-hearted atmosphere. Award in Support work in Schools (QCF) - Level 2 Award Learners do not need to be working in a school in order to achieve this qualification. It will provide you with an introduction to the information and knowledge needed to work within a school support team. This can apply to a wide variety of roles from teaching assistants to admin, technical, voluntary and site support positions. It can lead to the Level 2 Certificate for Supporting teaching and learning course. 5

6 Short Courses for Continued Professional Development We offer a range of professional development courses. These courses run a number of times throughout the year, depending on demand. Please call or to register your interest. It was fantastic learning with people doing the same job as me! Paediatric First Aid ( 95) This Ofsted accredited course is ideal for those working with children or for those who have their own children 12 hours over 2 days (Various dates available. 6 hours per day). An Introduction to working with the Early Years Foundation Stage framework ( 60) This non-accredited course is ideal for anyone looking to work in the Early Years sector or for those already doing so. It enables learners to gain a practical insight into how to implement the national guidelines relating to the early years curriculum. Managing behaviour for those working with children ( 70) Not sure what to do when a child behaves in a challenging way? Worried that you are not responding in a way that can help? This course will show you how. 1 day, Tuesday 17th March 9.30am pm. 8 hours over 2 days (Saturdays, 9.30am pm). 6

7 Build and Maintain Relationships when Working with Parents ( 70) This course is for those who want to explore how to build and maintain effective relationships with parents. 1 day, Tuesday 24th March, 9.30am pm. Introduction to Safeguarding for those who work with children and young people ( 80) 2 days, Saturday 14th and 28th March, 9.30am 12.30pm Qualification for those who want to become childminders and nannies Award in Preparing to Work in Home Based Childcare (QCF) Level 3 ( 125) This qualification prepares learners to set up a childcare business as a registered childminder, working from their own home. It is also appropriate for anyone wanting to work in home-based childcare settings such as a nanny, au pair or assistant to a childminder 3 days, 9.30am pm. 7

8 Apprenticeships Help towards costs for over 24s We also run Apprenticeships in both Children & Young People s Workforce and Supporting Teaching and Learning. As an apprentice you would usually be in the workplace four days per week and college for one, although some Apprenticeships can be fully work-based. HRC s Employment Service can assist you in finding employment. For more information on Apprenticeships or business-solutions@hrc.ac.uk For Level 3 courses you may be able to apply for an Advanced Learning Loan from the Government, online or by post. You will not have to pay anything up front for your course fees and you won t pay anything back until you re earning over 21,000*. Once your earnings exceed this amount, the repayments are made in minimal monthly instalments. Please visit for more information or to apply for a loan.
