1 About City Gateway City Gateway was set up in 1999 by a group of city workers involved in local churches to bring hope to local communities across London, particularly those in and around East London, who hadn't benefited from the areas wider economic development. City Gateway helps the hardest to reach and most excluded NEET young people and women overcome obstacles such as poor language levels, limited aspirations and low skill levels by connecting with, engage and train them and provide them with the skills and opportunities to enter into work. Over 90% of City Gateway apprentices successfully complete their apprenticeships, 14.4% above the national average in We run award winning youth work, youth training and employment projects, a women's project and children's and families work alongside a number of social enterprises which create work experience, training and employment opportunities for local people. Since starting City Gateway have been recognised as an example of national best practice in apprenticeships and youth engagement and have grown to work with thousands of individuals across London, especially Tower Hamlets and East London more widely. In 2012, City Gateway opened City Gateway Provision, the first Alternative Provision Free School in London, providing an alternative education environment for learners who have disengaged from mainstream education. Building on our success in where we were graded Ofsted Outstanding for our Apprenticeship provision; we have since been awarded Outstanding in 2014 for our provision. We also became a LSIS Beacon Provider in 2011 and have won awards such the CSJ Award 2011 and a Big Society Award Our Mission To bring hope to local communities across London, particularly those in and around East London. 2 Business Development Manager Main Workbase Hours of work Line Manager 32 Mastmaker Court, London, E14 9UB 9am 5pm Monday to Friday (plus evenings when required to attend networking events) Business Development Manager Main Purpose The main purpose of this job is to deliver the strategy for securing new business uptake for Apprenticeship placements. The person in this role will be inspired by the mission of progressing disadvantaged young people and woman into employment and Apprenticeships. Given City Gateway s track record in engaging large corporate organisations, the post holder here will be passionate about corporate responsibility and the role of the private sector in assisting City Gateway to achieve its objectives. Whilst the focus of the post holder will be delivering Apprenticeships to the private sector, the post holder may also engage public and third sector clients. The role will also involve encouraging uptake by businesses of the broader product and services that City Gateway offer volunteering, social enterprise sales and fundraising opportunities etc. Main Responsibilities Business Development Strategy Identify new customer markets and make recommendations for the development of business strategies to encourage employer/customer engagement Lead Generation Work closely with marketing to ensure a regular pipeline of appropriate leads are maintained and approached. Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to approach leads generated from supply chains and to generate account referrals. Utilise networks, events, research or any other methodology to generate leads which lead to sales Lead Conversion / Sales Develop and deliver strategies for lead conversion using marketing support. Manage oneself effectively to weekly and monthly targets in order to ensure you achieve your KPIs. 2

3 Work with representatives from management, senior leadership, Business Development, fundraising and operational services to aid in the development of new opportunities with the customer. Market the organisations full product portfolio identifying opportunities where volunteer events can be arranged, pro bono support secured and social enterprise sales secured/fundraising targets achieved Business Management Ensure that client requirements are captured thoroughly and key information is communicated with customers to enable seamless handover of accounts to the account management team. Complete all relevant paperwork in agreed timescales and to quality levels required, maintain accurate, up to date employer/placement agreement files in accordance with City Gateway procedures Work with transparency, monitoring your contact with each account to enable each accounts history with City Gateway is documented. Work with Traxbase, Sales Force and any other information systems to provide up to date account information. Track you progress and report in accordance with the requirements of your supervisor to ensure that your work is visible. Forecasting & Customer Knowledge Ensure all contact with leads and accounts is recorded to ensure sales forecast accuracy Ensure customer contact data is reviewed and updated in a timely manner. Capture feedback on leads contacted to influence apprenticeship programme delivery development and to inform other service delivery areas Relationship Management Support Work closely with the Account Management team, introducing them to new relationships in a timely manner, enabling and facilitating the building of a relationship of trust and mutual benefit in order to further the work of City Gateway in bringing hope to Tower Hamlets. Communicating clearly with businesses City Gateway s service offer and relationship management structure so that all businesses are aware of the range of options they have to work with City Gateway. Account managers and the business development team should continuously seek to maximise the return from every partnership. Attending events such as corporate volunteering events or Patrons Network events to strengthen relationships with employers. Fundraising Support Make referrals to fundraising to generate income from opportunities where appropriate. Knowledge & Expertise Attend industry events to grow knowledge of best practice and to represent City Gateway as required Engage proactively with the teams Skills Strategy developing yourself to the best of your abilities Contingency 3

4 In exceptional circumstances work flexibly to meet alternative but related business needs where appropriate (e.g. candidate preparation for interviews, managing employer accounts, making team sales calls. Future Developments Whilst the Business Development Managers role is generic, in time Business Development Managers may become more focused; perhaps adopting specific sectors, organisation types or product types. 5 Person Specification Attribute Essential Desirable Education/ Degree level educated Qualification Proven Experience A strong track record in generating new business and sales-related activities. Full understanding of how to manage a sales pipeline. Experience of developing cold contacts, the candidate must have strong networking skills. Results orientated and skilled in consultative sales, this individual should be able to identify unknown needs that a business has and to tailor solutions to this to secure an opportunity for City Gateway. Experience of working as part of a team and interfacing with a variety of stakeholders. The ability to work with internal and external providers to optimise City Gateway s offering, they will have demonstrated an ability to think creatively to achieve results and meet customer s needs. Understanding of marketing and ability to work closely with marketers on campaigns, knowledge of social media. Experience in the recruitment sector is also desirable Experience of developing and deliver a business development strategy. Experience of training others in sales and business development. A network of HR/CSR professionals Skills & Abilities The ability to use processes, information and knowledge to generate outstanding results in a target driven environment as well as to motivate others to do so. An effective team player with a high level of self-awareness and an ability to build mutually beneficial and productive relationships both internal and external to your team, while respecting others & valuing diversity. The ability to receive, understand and convey information and ideas effectively and passionately to others, experience of doing presentations to the private sector both to individuals and small groups. Able to develop relationships over the phone as well as face to face. Experience of managing teams in a recruitment or sales environment (as this role may have growth to do so in the future. Experience of corporate client management in the professional or financial services sector. Demonstrates an understanding of corporate social responsibility trends. Ability to communicate effectively to large group audiences e.g. conferences or seminars.
