You can steer yourself any direction you choose. -Dr Seuss Seniors: With the approach of graduation there are several activities which we have planned so that you can enjoy your remaining three months at Crescenta Valley High School. We hope that everyone attends and takes part in these activities. These remaining months can and should be the best time of the year for seniors. This senior bulletin is designed to inform you of all the upcoming events and their ticket deadlines. Please be aware of the following: Be prompt and ready. Do not make others suffer because you did not prepare. Be aware of ticket deadlines. They will be strictly enforced. Violations of the Standards of Student Conduct from now until the end of the school year can result in your exclusion from senior activities including graduation. Use of alcohol or drugs will not be tolerated. Each year a few students have not been allowed to participate in senior activities, including the graduation ceremony, because of drug or alcohol use at school functions. A breathalyzer to measure alcohol will be at every school function and will be used at random or as needed. No smoking is allowed at any school function on or off campus. SENIOR ACTIVITIES: 1. TICKETS: Tickets will be on sale April 29 through May 30. No tickets will be sold after May 30. Directions will be given with ticket purchase. No tickets will be sold at the door. Once you leave you may not re-enter. Tickets are CASH ONLY OR CREDIT CARD ONLINE. There will be no reserved seating. PICTURES: Prices will be given with the purchase of your ticket. Payment for your pictures will be made at the time pictures are taken. Pictures will be taken in the big gym. Time 3:00 p.m. 6:30 p.m. Formal dresses for the ladies. Suit and tie or tux for men. GUESTS: A guest may be any CVHS student, a student from another school, or a person who no longer attends high school. Non-CV guests must go through the guest approval process and will be charged at the Non-ASB price. Forms are available in the assistant principals office and ASB. Allow several days to process. NO MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS IS PERMITTED TO ATTEND THE PROM AND NO ONE AS A GUEST CAN BE 21 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER. You are responsible for the behavior of your guest. Seniors may attend without a date. All Guest Request forms are due Friday, May 18. SENIOR AWARDS PROGRAM WHEN: Wednesday, May 30 th at 7:00 pm CVHS Mac Donald Auditorium Cap and Gown (See dress details under Graduation) All award winners report to the auditorium at 6:45 p.m. The program begins at 7:00 p.m. Rehearsal for the program will be Wednesday, May 30, Period 5. All seniors are encouraged to attend. Parents and students are encouraged to notify the Counseling Office by Friday, May 18 of any awards, scholarships, or college acceptances that you have received this year. Failure to notify them may mean you do not get the recognition you deserve at the Senior Awards Program or graduation ceremony. 5/10/12 2
SENIOR REFLECTIONS (sponsored by CVHS Parents) Attendance is voluntary. A group of parents are working with the senior class officers to plan this program honoring the Senior Class. There will be a guest speaker, a faculty member chosen by your class, and each of the senior officers will present some final thoughts. The choir will sing songs. The PTSA will host a reception in front of the auditorium following the service. Reflections provides the opportunity to think about the past and dream about the future. Reflections is a perfect time to take photos in your cap and gown here at CVHS with your friends and family. WHEN: Sunday, June 10, 2012, 4:00 5:00 p.m. Mac Donald Auditorium, Crescenta Valley High School Cap and Gown. (See dress details under Graduation.) Seniors line up at 3:40 p.m. GRADUATION: Thursday, June 14, 5:30 p.m. at Glendale College Field PARTICIPATION: Only those seniors completing the prescribed requirements for a diploma will take part in the ceremony. ADMISSION: Five tickets for admission will be issued to seniors at the June 14th morning rehearsal. Each senior will receive five (5) tickets, which will admit guests to the stadium stands or to chairs on the field, depending on the time of their arrival at Glendale College Field. Additional tickets may be available for $6 each. A maximum of 5 additional tickets is available per graduate. CAP AND GOWN/APPROPRIATE WEAR Men: Dark slacks, white shirt, and tie, dark socks and dark shoes. The tie should blend with the navy blue gown. Ladies: White collars will be provided by the cap and gown company. White or pastel short dresses should be worn. Long full skirts, pants, or high collars do not work well with the academic robe. Remember to choose a relatively simple hairstyle to accommodate the cap. White shoes look best. Flowers should not be worn or carried at the ceremony. DIPLOMA: Your actual diploma will be issued immediately after the ceremony. Diplomas WILL NOT BE ISSUED to students who owe textbooks, owe detention, or have outstanding debts at the library, student store, or any other department or to students identified as disruptive during the graduation ceremony. 5/10/12 3
CAP AND GOWN DISTRIBUTION DISTRIBUTION: Caps and gowns will be issued to all seniors who have purchased them. If you take a cap and gown and do not use them, you are still required to pay for them. There are NO REFUNDS. Dates and times for distribution will be publicized. CARE: The gown may need to be pressed. (Be sure to use a cool iron!) Try to keep it clean and wrinkle free. Hanging it up will help. The cap and gown is yours to keep. PICTURES: Plan to have all the appropriate pictures taken during the time the cap and gown is in your possession prior to the graduation ceremony. No one will be permitted on the field to take close-up personal pictures during the ceremony. REQUIRED GRADUATION ACTIVITIES 1. May 17, 2012 at 9:20 a.m. Graduation information meeting to distribute the Senior Bulletin 2. Thursday, June 14, 2012 at 8:00 AM. Graduation Rehearsal, Glendale College Field. (This is the morning of graduation). Tickets for graduation will be issued at the conclusion of this rehearsal. DO NOT park illegally at Glendale College. If you wish to participate in the graduation ceremony, you must attend the evening rehearsal. OTHER IMPORTANT REMINDERS In order to be eligible for graduation, a senior must maintain acceptable citizenship as stated on page 1 of this bulletin. This includes payment of all debts and fines, lost book fees, and other school obligations. ALL SENIOR DEBTS AND OBLIGATIONS MUST BE CLEARED BY NOON, JUNE 13 th, or a diploma will not be issued graduation evening. Final exams will be as follows: Friday, June 8 and Monday, June 11: Teachers give final exams to seniors over these two days for periods 1 and 6. (Regular Schedule) Tuesday,June 12: Final exams for all students 9, 10, 11, 12 for Periods 2 and 3. Wednesday, June 13: Final exams for all students 9, 10, 11, 12 for Periods 4 and 5 Thursday, June 14: Final exams for grades 9, 10, 11 for Periods 1 and 6. Seniors will be given the day to rest after grad nite before graduation. The Counseling Office will notify seniors who are not cleared for graduation by the evening of the 13 th. GradNite Celebration Magic Mountain Thursday, June 14, 2012-9:00 p.m. 6:00 a.m. If you are a graduating senior you may go stag. If you are a graduating senior your date must be a student from CVHS or another high school, or a person who no longer attends high school. Non-CV guests must go through the guest approval process. There will be two prices a non- asb price and an asb price. Price includes transportation to and from Magic Mountain. Tickets go on sale May 27 through June 12. The price will go up as we get closer to June 12 th. Tickets are non-transferable. Money is non-refundable. A voucher will be given at the time of purchase which will be traded for your ticket when you board the bus. Rules for dress that evening, and things to leave at home will be provided on a sheet at the time of ticket purchase. Casual dress, no students will be allowed to enter with revealing clothing. Follow the CV dress code policy. REGULATIONS: Everyone travels on the bus. NO EXCEPTIONS. Buses leave from in front of the gym at 9:00 PM SHARP! We will leave the park by 6:00 AM Friday, June 15 th and return to CV at approximately 7:00 a.m. THE SOONER EVERYONE ON YOUR BUS RETURNS, THE SOONER YOU LEAVE.
